  1. It's not fair to only like at the amount per year when evaluating a contract. The number of years matters a lot too. I'd much rather have Furcal for 3/39 than what the Cubs were offering at 5/50 or whatever. Pay a little more now, but get out of the deal before he starts seriously declining. It makes a lot of sense.
  2. if he did and succeeded, that means hendry will get him for sure, because that would guarantee that he has enormous hands, which will prove helpful when the time comes for catching the ball.
  3. Right, but think about the source. It was written for a Pittsburgh newspaper. If it was posted online at around 11:00 their time. This rumor broke around 11:00 their time. For a story like that, I'm sure he had everything ready to be turned in by 9:00 their time if not earlier. No, the Pittsburgh article was posted 15 mins ago. The one only one hour ago is on the A's front page written by their equivalent to Carrie Muskat. i haven't seen the article so i have no idea, but . . . susan slusser? Article was written by Mychael Urban. (Apparently he can't spell his own first name.) Here's a link. susan slusser's worse, but yes mychael urban is bad too.

  5. thanks for doing something smart finally, a's
  6. Barry will be a free agent after next season.
  7. I don't think that's an option for teams. I wish it was.

  10. Best post ever. Post of the millennium. POST OF THE EPOCH jk, i didnt read it
  11. you actually get to start seven false trade rumors before you get canned. hill + cash for cristian guzman, i heard it on the radio
  12. no worries guys, if this proves false, i'm sure he'll be out the door.
  13. Hendry is talking about an extension for DLee, so I don't even know why this topic keeps being brought up. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell of Lee being traded this offseason. people talk about the cubs winning the world series, and we all know that's never going to happen.
  14. When was the last time you where in Pittsburg? I was there last year for a few Cub games over the couse of a weekend. The city is alive and well. The downtown is thriving and they have new shopping and tourism attractions. IMO, the problem is that they haven't been good in a long time. If the Steelers can sell out Heinz field, the Pirates can sell out PNC. Why would I want to go to Pittsburgh? Yikes! So what, they threw a bunch of government money to bring alive downtown. So did Cincy. It still doesn't change the fact that they're both old economy cities. Both places should be one sport towns. Send the baseball franchises to the East or West Coast or to Chicago. Man, are you parochial, or what? The Reds and Pirates are original NL teams, they're just as proud as our Cubs. And they're not the "poor sisters" many make them out to be, it's lousy baseball teams that are the problem, not fan support or lack of underlying passion. There are nearly 7 million people in the effective Reds dominance area, including Louisville, Dayton, Columbus and Indianapolis. Pittsburgh is in a little tougher spot, but they are in better shape than KC, Milwaukee, Tampa and frankly, San Diego in terms of total fan base size. Honus Wagner. Kent. Need I say more? fixed
  15. Agree'd. Why trade MAX VALUE for MAX VALUE. Especially when you are trading a well loved Cubs player (the fans and team loves him). . If Derrick got 5/60 (12 a year) he is worth that and I want him hear for 5 more years. do you really think he'll ever be worth close to 12 million in a year? even assuming he's the best 1b glove in the leagur, which he's not?
  16. ahahhahahahahaahhahahaha some people think macias wont be back sorry guys, you root for the cubs, maybe next life
  17. if jim wasnt asleep at the wheel, we'd already have our closer and we wouldnt have had to sign dumpster to that ridiculous contract hendry for cash, it's the best possible deal, we can make it with whichever team is the dumbest and will give us the most moolah
  18. when will lee's value ever be higher? even considering that his contract is almost up, you have to believe that everyone is just going to think less of him after he hits 270/360/500 again, especially when he's got 4 more years on his contract. i cant wait till we're paying lee 13 million to hit 260/350/450 while playing real solid d at 1b.
  19. when the hell did this happen? im just about done with the jerks who run the cubs hahah he seriously better be, otherwise that "its ok, lets let kerry throw out of the bullpen for no reason" thing is going to look mighty stupid. mighty stupid indeed seriously thatll be the last freaking straw, if wood isn't ready at the start of spring training, ill be comepltely done with the cubs. the a's might sign overrated pitchers to 3 year deals just like the cubs, but as least they dont charge their pitchers out there even though their hurt, AFTER the team is out of the race, no less. This organization never surprises me. im going to give it one last chance chance to surprise me. if it does, it's all over.

  21. Now THAT is the kind of reaction I expect around here! :D It's all fun till a redneck pokes a frat boy in the eye with his mullet. As long as the insults are evenly spread out I'm cool. ;) why the hell should i, as a cub fan, come to a cub website and be okay with being insulted?

  23. The Cubs are showing interest in a Japanese player?
  24. I still haven't given up hope that we could get Castillo from the Marlins fire-sale. That would be an amazing IF. Yes, it would. Imagine if the Cubs signed Furcal 5/50. Trade Walker for Bradley. Sign Encarnacion for RF. Trade Pinto and Cedeno for Castillo. Furcal SS Cedeno 2b Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Bradley CF Encarnacion RF Murton LF Barrett C That line-up could win and it would be very good defensively as well. Ugh, I really dislike Encarnacion. I'd be really concerned that he'd just throw up another 260/320/400 type year. For the money, I really think we could do better. Also, I'd definitely flip Cedeno and Bradley in your lineup.
