  1. i hope he signs with the pirates and hits 4 home runs off of glendon rusch and 5 off of maddux
  2. That's Thom Brenneman. And he's horrible with football. That's probably the 8th time I've made that mistake. I should've figured he couldn't do an NFL game yesterday then the Cotton bowl today. Attention CPatterson20: hahahahahha wtg
  3. sosa was more of a team player than ryno. he had more sac flies in his career, and he didn't sell out his teammates with stupid sacrifice bunts that hurt the team more often than they helped it.
  4. albert belle career ops+ 143 ralph kiner career ops+ 149 kiner had a pretty great league to hit in for some of those years too.
  5. more like SORIAN-GO AWAY WE DON'T YOU TO PLAY HERE
  6. i really like the concept of putting people's names in quotation marks if i don't like them. it doesn't really mean anything, but it seems like you're sincerely questioning their character.
  7. appreciation is all about living in the past. it's about being happy about the things that have already taken place.
  8. is that the one by ken ross? i think i have that, but have never read it.
  9. i really enjoyed curve ball, but it is really dense, and by the end i felt like they were just kind of making the same points over and over again. that doesn't change the fact that i plowed through the whole thing in four days, though.
  10. cubs with sammy = awesome cubs without sammy = worthless and no fun i miss sammy like crazy. i sure wish he'd stop acting weird and making me question that, though.
  11. 42) i hate them so much that i wont be bothering to watch any of their games, thus removing pressure from players concerned about my opinion of them
  12. i dont know their names, but i read somewhere that illinois is in fact planning on fielding a team for next year, so i suppose that's good news for people who go their football games.
  13. same
  14. There is a good possibility his #'s will drop tremendously. I'll pass. if his obp drops tremendously, it'll just look like jacque jones'.
  15. i wish he was going to be our right fielder instead of jones.
  16. im much more amenable to trade guys like pie for tejada now that prior's name has been thrown around Begin Rant: Now that you bring that up I'm thinking that Hendry does have a plan this offseason. When he signed Eyre I thought it was a bad idea. When he traded Pinto, Nolasco, and Mitre for Pierre I thought to myself "dang, the Eyre signing doesn't look so bad now." Then he goes out and proclaims he's excited that Jacque Jones is going to be our starting RF for the next three years. At this point I'm saying to myself "Gee, I'm actually kind of glad we have Pierre now and that Eyre signing looks like a bargain." Just a few days later Hendry "leaks" news that he's using Prior as trade bait to try and get Tejada. By now a kick in the craw and a can of Natty Light sound pretty good. If we only end up losing Pie, Hill, Williams, and Guzman for Tejada we'll think it's the biggest steal since D.B. Cooper's heist. It's pure genius. Just keep making progressively worse and worse deals and your previous transactions look better and better. Eventually Cubs fans will be dancing in the street because we have Neifi Perez locked up for a few million a year. End Rant. this man speaks truth
  17. 2B isn't the most obvious place for him to move. SS move because of decreased range, 2B still need range. I'm thinking 3B or LF. Regardless, once you move him out of SS, the premium you pay for production at SS is more than you should pay for production at 2B. You don't trade young top 10 pitchers for a guy you might have to move in a couple years. I hate when other people post "I have a source" stuff, but I'll do it anyway. Take it with a grain of salt. I would do the same if I were in your position. I have a source I respect who tells me that Mark Prior absolutely hates everything about the Chicago Cubs organization. It's almost a 100% sure thing that he's leaving as a free agent the very instant he can. You could be looking at Tejada for four years versus Prior for three years. Obviously, I don't know this for sure. Just something to consider. me and mark prior should be friends, we have so much in common.
  18. im much more amenable to trade guys like pie for tejada now that prior's name has been thrown around
  19. i really wish i had never said anything about suicide previous to this, because what im about to say would be a lot more effective if that were the case. but if the cubs trade prior for miguel tejada and prospects who aren't delmon young, they will have exhibited such a pathetic misunderstanding of player valuation that i will have no choice but to take my own life and become a legend in the annals or martyrdom.
  20. The Cubs would have to get somebody ELSE with Delmon Young from the DRays (say Scott Kazmir) to make that trade happen. Felix Hernandez, at his peak, will be JUST as good (not better, just as good), so that would a lateral move. I would want more then Delmon Young or Felix Hernandez (from their respective teams) before I'd consider a Z trade. Cabrera/ARod/Pujols/Santana are the ONLY ones on that list, I would trade Zambrano for, straight up. i think there's a fair chance felix will be a lot better than z. he might have dwight gooden's career, except without crack. i think there's a better chance his arm just falls off though.
  21. let's see...the bullpen cost us at least 10, and maybe 15, games last year? we had no leadoff hitter and no one to steal bases. prior takes a line drive off the elbow and misses an additional month of action. wood makes all of 10 starts and LF was essentially non-existent most of the year. so hendry goes out and overpays to fix the bullpen - and you simply can't argue with him signing the two best setup men available; signs a true leadoff hitter, something the cubs didn't have in 04 or 05; we're expecting prior to be healty all season and wood to be healthy for most, if not, all of the season; and murton figures to give us at least a .270 avg in LF...AND YOU SEE JUST A 5 GAME IMPROVEMENT? talk about seeing the glass as half empty. i understand that all of us wanted hendry to make an additional deal or two, but some of us are coming on here and acting like we're trotting out the pirates or royals lineup next season. i'm sure hendry has explored every possible trade he thinks would make his team better, but it takes two to dance. he overpaid to get eyre, howry and pierre and it's likely potential trade partners are wanting him to do the same thing in current discussions. given how crappy this offseason's FA market was, i'd much rather hit the field with what we've got now, see how things go and assess who's available at midseason or next offseason when more talent will be available. the bullpen cost us 15 games last year? our run diff said we were an 86 win team last year. you think that good bullpen plus everything else the same equal 101 wins?
  22. id scratch young and felix off that list, and then you'd have mine.
  23. yeah right dude obp is overrated if you cant hit what if you cant hit? i fail to see how this makes neifi look better than the hornyman.
  24. Guh? I sure would love to hear what Hendry thinks is a good trade that involves Prior. i feel like i just got punched in the stomach.
  25. also, how much would you rather have bellhorn at 2B than neifi? im sad again
