  1. meph is your favorite mistake, don't front
  2. he only plays strat-o-matic, he doesn't want to dick around with guessing who's going to get saves for the orioles
  3. go take a look at who started his thread whenever you have a free moment
  4. cc broke the rules, b& plz
  5. From blackshoediaries: So now the story is if those guys didn't go to the cops Joe had no reason to think he should have. yeah, there is a lot of really pathetic stuff over there. i'm confident my friend is reading it. the best thing my friend has said so far is that paterno getting fired has shaken his belief in due process and the american jury system. the best part? he's a licensed attorney.
  6. Not really, there's almost no new info in this story. It's an excellent summary and this newspaper is one of the few that has journalistically done a good job with the story, but almost all of this stuff was reported previously. completely honest question: is there any sort of penn state blog or message board that you are following that has the same mindset as you? a lot of your arguments are very similar to those being made by a penn state alum friend of mine (those yours are way watered down versions of his, he is "losing his mind" angry about this). i was just wondering if there was something out there that you might both be reading.
  7. !daerht rehto Now Dave Kaplan hates you. I'm pretty sure he reads nsbb upon occasion. Ergo, he already hated me. I dont know about that. Kaplan has the thinnest skin of any reporter I've ever seen. Maybe any person in general, not just a reporter. If Kaplan did browse NSBB, there is no doubt he would create an account and throw a temper tantrum at the things we say about him. he unblocked me on twitter, so we are totally bros now
  8. NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SAMPLE SIZE pretty disheartening to see such a blatant misuse of data after umfan's scientific analysis above
  9. yes, the cubs are going to sign pujols because crane kenney wants to and made the decision to do so before the cubs even talked to epstein
  10. I do find it quite fitting that the thread about a pedophile and the numerous people who failed to expose his horrible acts is titled "Joe Paterno" Should I change it to "Truffle defends Joe Paterno?" well i don't have nearly as many posts in that thread as many other people, so probably not. my point was that just like the media coverage, this ceased to be about the child molester, the people in the administration and the victims and became a referendum about joe paterno within about 5 minutes of the grand jury report coming out. anyway, what's done is done. hopefully they move forward by losing consistently for the next five years so they become better known as a football laughingstock than as a place that protects pedophiles. can you change your avatar, i really don't want to associate child molestation and those who enable it with ron swanson
  11. we've been signing the best free agents every year forever now, when will we learn that it doesn't work
  12. i'm choosing to believe he's saying all the right things so he can ingratiate himself to the right people in the community so he can write the book that destroys them all
  13. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwesome
  14. Is this your attempt to bring humor to this situation? no it is a serious question thank you for asking
  15. (rocket's post i'm about to quote was originally in the college football thread, but i am moving it here to keep the paterno stuff out of there) : ( http://deadspin.com/5858278/joe-posnanski-becomes-an-unlikely-paterno-apologist
  16. have you guys braced yourselves for the possibility that jerry orbach's corpse was ground up and put into sandwiches at second mile? because you better.
  17. i think cc just jumped the shark.
  18. oh my god i completely forgot about that. i was very sad when the poscast went away. i think the resulting book will be worth it now.
  19. So he's an atheist? 8.4
  20. so why hasn't he been run out of town?
  21. that's one of the more interesting photographs i've seen.
  22. The most fun in all of this (aside from seeing the Cubs front office materialize) has been watching the dust-up among Red Sox fans. Some hilarious reading there. Funny, I always thought that our two fan bases were kind of kindred spirits. the cubs' system is just flush with guys with high ceilings who have achieved things at aa, so that should be no problem
  23. The only place I've heard any indiation of that theory is from truffle. i've heard it from another penn state fan as well. maybe this is something some penn state blogger made up and is circulating or something. my other penn state fan also went to some length explaining to me that old people don't understand what gay even means so paterno probably heard all of this and was just confused and didn't take it as seriously as he should.
  24. that is not a reasonable response. there are thousands of people in the state college area whose livelihood depends on the football program. it would be extraordinarily stupid to harm all of those people because a small handful of administrators and coaches acted improperly. you get rid of the people involved (which will end up including the president of the university, the guy who oversees the entire athletic department, and the head coach of the football program), you take steps to ensure that something like this never happens again, and you move on from there. one way to ensure that this doesn't happen again would be to set up a local governmental body that people could call when they witnessed crimes or were informed of serious crimes that occurred within their organizations. it could have the power to investigate people who were accused of crimes and arrest them and charge them when necessary, eventually leading to punishment for those found to be guilty of crimes. it would need a catchy name, something about how they represented the people, but they were also chill so you could trust them. maybe use a shortened form of populi for people and a word for something really cold. pol-ice. something like that. either way, it is too bad pol-ice didn't exist back then, because then this all could have been avoided (think how easy it would've been for everyone involved to just dial a number and inform the pol-ice of the child rapist they had caught!). luckily, with truffle's strong leadership, the university will "take steps to ensure that something like this never happens again," since the current system simply doesn't allow for the resolution of such a problem.
  25. in fairness to truffle, maybe he thinks paterno was just waiting for the right time to go to the authorities. i mean, truffle is used to waiting ten years for things to come out.
