  1. The backlash would've been local only. If it was a difference of $30-40M, why would he care about any backlash? There's other reasons compelling him to stay, but I don't think a bunch of crazy St. Louis fans being mad at him is among them. they would've been mad for like two minutes and then remembered the stupid best fans in baseball gimmick and had no choice to give him a standing ovation every at bat his first series in st louis.
  2. i might go to his book signing thingy on thursday. go there and sit at a table and sign some books and talk to some fans
  3. I may be reading this wrong, but doesn't it have Soriano's arm worth a win and a half in '07? uzr is saber's leprechaun in the hood Soriano: (games/putouts/assists/arm) 2006: 158/326/22/4.9 2007: 134/273/19/14.4 lol go [expletive] yourself, uzr. no seriously though, it's useless. fangraphs admits as much: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-fangraphs-uzr-primer/#16 so lemme get this straight: uzr is not what happened on the field. k. uzr is not true talent level. k. but that's why we regress. k. but even after we regress, we still don't know that uzr is at all indicative of what the player actually did or his talent level when he may or may not have done it. wait what? but that's the best we can do so long as we don't know anything else about a player. rofl holy [expletive] that's [expletive] well, i DO know other stuff about the player, and based on that i know that alfonso soriano's right arm did not become close to 3x more valuable by participating in less games and actually converting less opportunities for assists. so yeah, sori's arm was worth 1.5 wins in 2007. and this is a leprechaun: http://3432-stoollala.voxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/leprechaun_sketch.jpg great post
  4. Yes, and on that note my baseball team is having a football watching party at Time Out at Gravois and Chippewa. $5 to help drink a keg of beer and some free food (pasta and hot dogs). cardinals are really pulling out all the stops to come up with the money to sign pujols
  5. abuck killing it the last page or so
  6. if jason varitek is a good clubhouse guy, why didn't he scream in john lackey's face until his whip went down by a third or give all the beer in the clubhouse to a local girl scout troop in order to keep it out of the hands of people who shouldn't have it?
  7. i tried to make a mspaint picture of sandy alomar as a white man but it just looked like imb got confused and mistook his face for a shag carpet
  8. it seems horribly unfair to change the system right now, but if we are going to do so, let's triple what you get for losing a type B
  9. i am happily not watching illinois football any more this year. supposed to be like 55 saturday, might go to a park or something and hang out. nice little saturday. i'll keep you guys updated.
  10. The dump truck is already en route to Bill Cowher's house. that nerdy butler guy is so inspirational that he could probably get a good football team too send him two dump trucks and let him coach both teams
  11. a lotttttt of people in state college have to be thinking that right now. there are obviously a lot of points at which a small change in someone's behavior could've changed everything, but this is probably the easiest one.
  12. this is how i always feel at wrigley. i mean, i guess it's cool that someone hit a home run, but i wish something actually exciting would happen so the park could come alive
  13. I may be reading this wrong, but doesn't it have Soriano's arm worth a win and a half in '07? yikes EDIT: yikes at uzr for saying that, not ryan for reading poorly
  14. Not since my 2 week run in Equus. 1.4
  15. That's pretty much a career highlight. Yep the alternative was a montage of blocked sliders in the dirt. with no one on base because it's a warm-up pitch between innings
  16. That's pretty much a career highlight. Yep the alternative was a montage of blocked sliders in the dirt. with no one on base
  17. not agent cooper, that other agent whose name i can't remember who hates everyone in the town and just wants to fight them EDIT rosenfield.
  18. i was very much on the fence about who was in the wrong in all this nba lockout stuff until i read gladwell's column about it on grantland. highly recommended if you missed it.
  19. I think it means they are no longer legally considered a "union" and it gives them some sort of legal advantage now or something. thank you for clarifying
  20. "i see here on your resume that you previously worked at second mile" option a: "i wasn't doing anything there at all and i had no idea what was going on and i cannot be held accountable for anything that happened there" option b: "i was instrumental in second mile's community outreach, didn't we do a great job?" either way, HIRED
  21. the bears are now 6-3 overall, 4-0 in the treymon game thread starter era. chris williams is apparently dead, which sucks, because every highlight package surrounding the bears o-line improvement featured like six plays in which he pulled and completely destroyed someone in pursuit of forte. those highlights were awesome and i will miss them. the chargers seem pretty mediocre, but they still have lots of scary people on offense, and it is hard to completely write off rivers. it wouldn't be surprising at all if they played us really, really tough. or if they came out and just played like garbage again. line will likely be bears -4.5. maybe 4. umfan, don't bet on this game.
  22. this times a million consider the opportunity to sign an elite talent a break, don't turn away and wait for a better one.
  23. while we're doing this, it sure would be nice if we could throw the elias a/b/c free agent rankings in the garbage and put something reasonable in
  24. seems like this would significantly increase the value of an eleventh round pick and being picked in the eleventh round. if you're going to fall, fall to eleven.
  25. The next guy who should be brought in is Schwartz. Because it's pretty clear to me this is ultimately coming from him. ...Schwartz was with Suh, and it was Suh who requested the meeting to get a better understanding behind a couple of his fines also, lots of psychotic frothing on this page alone, good lord, people people tend to get touchy when they see a team intentionally trying to injure their franchise quarterback. it'll be easier for you to understand if/when your team gets one.
