  1. Looks like we might have some cooler weather in Chicago Wednesday and a it could be a good pitchers day that day. Honestly, I'd try to save Shota for that game and do a bullpen game today since all of our high leverage guys are well rested and ready to go. The we get another off day and Wednesday might be the best time to pitch Shota. He really scares the hell out of me tonight with the number of homers he's surrendering and I don't care that Milwaukee is not a big homer team, that does not seem to matter right now for Shota.
  2. And let's be clear, Neither K-Zone or any other iteration of the robot ump is 100% perfect - in fact I don't think there is a way to accurately measure how accurate it even is as they are several factors that go into how it's implemented and factors that can affect it that are never talked about that it's just impossible to put a number on it. It is better than the humans - that we can say.
  3. No Woodruff is out.
  4. I agree - hell Dansby was the MVP of this series because of his glove. Shaw has shown he can make similar type game saving plays at third, and certainly significantly better than anyone that would replace him.
  5. Boog always makes like that K-Zone is 100% - it's not......especially up and down. But it did look low.
  6. To be fair - No. 1 he's our 9 hole hitter and the expectations were not as high for him.
  7. Yes, he seems almost unhittable - so we better score early. I noticed his ERA was over 3.76 in Oakland this year, pretty big sample size. Hard to believe. The change of scenery can't be all that changed? .77 ERA since being in San Diego.
  8. You make some good points Jason, I hear you. My point on the opener is I'm not opposed to it but not sure I'd have choses Kittridge - even if you dismiss he faced the same guys yesterday, I'm wondering if Kittridge was the best choice for it? But ultimately that did not matter at all, we didn't score a run. So it's kind of useless to beat our heads against the was about something that in the end made no difference. As for the we hit some hard thing, I know the randomness of baseball is something that makes it so great but so maddening at the same time - the "we hit it hard" stuff I just can't do anymore. We need to score runs early today!!! LFG!!
  9. Yep gotta get to the early, we know this.....very disappointing. Cease has not been good this year and even worse on the road. Yes, it was puzzling that Kittridge was the starter an faces Tatis and Arraez just as he did just a day earlier, I'm not sure I'll ever really understand that - but it really didn't matter in the end because we did not score a runs. Happ, if you're going to hit 3rd you gotta do something. PCA, calm it down and help us!! LFG!!
  10. I can't manage it at work, the game is so stressful for me - even on my phone next to my computer with the volume off - I would be a complete mess and unable to function. I just check the score occassionally and watch the highlights after - if we win.
  11. Agreed, think we're going to have to get to them early and hope Boyd can survive the first and make it two times through without much damage. His first inning the several games before his last outing were pretty brutal. I think our pen can hold their own - and I think the shadows later in the day will make it tough for hitters on both sides in addition to the pitching.
  12. I always heard it was because Wrigley didn't have lights - so that's an urban legend?
  13. Yes that we had to play 3 in San Diego even though we had the better regular season record still galls me.
  14. Honestly, I can do without Boog. I'll be diplomatic and leave it at that. Would love to see JD - but I really like Ben MacDonald as a color analyst so not that big an issue just because of that.
  15. Ben MacDonald is very good.
  16. Look no further than going out and getting Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates. There bullpen was a weakness last year so this was to fix it - but it's been worse and both of these guys have been in a word - terrible. The Cubs have in turn gotten multiple bargain basement bullpen arms who are better.
  17. And this is what many of us want the Cubs to be. Of course, the Cubs take it to the other extreme. Maybe some middle ground would be nice? We are playing another team this week who before their t.v. contract imploded, dished out several huge - long term contracts. They have had more success than the Mets for sure. But ask their fans and they are disappointed with their regular season this year - and they missed the playoffs in 21 and 23....so I guess the moral is big spending doesn't always work out. But at least it means you are trying. But when it doesn't work so well the inevitable - we're paying all that money for this??? - comes out.
  18. I agree here. I think Green and Abbot both will be pretty tough and match up well with Yamamoto and whoever else the Dodgers start. And the Dodgers bullpen really sucks even worse than the Reds bullpen, but they may do what they did last year and use a starter or two in the pen for these games? Reds don't have as much hitting as the Dodgers and that may in the end be the difference.
  19. Green and Abbott should scare any lineup. But managers are so scared to go third time through the lineup - the Reds pen sucks so it's on Francona.
  20. It really is great to see Seiya pulling ball in the air again - if he's found it and can give us what he gave us pre-break that will be huge. And yes with PCA and Busch also coming around - we sure need that with Horton out as you say.
  21. I'd say - not with that bullpen....but their bullpen was pretty bad last year and somehow found their stride post season. And their wily vets appear to be aging, but yeah you are right, they probably have one more good run in em. They should be favored until proven otherwise.
  22. Actually the Astros are losing at such a high clip the Tigers are still in the drivers seat for that last WC berth.
  23. And De La Cruz is hitting .206 with a .571 OPS his last 25 games.
  24. So no dip in velocity or no noticeable change in pitch shape? Has he changed the frequency that he throws certain pitches? Your guess is sequencing, and if it's just that simple it gives me at least some hope. But I don't feel great starting him in the playoffs the way he's pitched down the stretch.
