  1. I agree I see lot's of similarities - this could well be our 2019 outcome for the Phils this year. They are aging - and outside of Schwarber probably not aging that well. Harper/Nola/Realmuto/Castellanos and Turner because speed is such a big part of his game.....this might just be the best last opportunity this year because, still good players all, but I think the best season for all of those guys are in their rear view mirror.
  2. I hate to say it too, I hold not ill will toward Tucker - great hitter....but I can see a trajectory similar to KB's. I remember with KB one of his early injuries he tried to play through and it did not go well and he heard some criticism I'm sure for the first time in his career. I think from then on, he decided he was not going to play unless he was 100% and he started missing more and more time each year and now it has become the very sad story it has today . I think the stuff with Tuck last year might have some of the same dynamics. Now I don't wish that on Tuck, would love if I'm wrong.....but I also hate the Dodgers so I can't say I'm pulling for him, that would be a lie.
  3. The Cubs models show him aging well, similar to Zobrist who signed a 4-year with the Cubs at age 34. I've said it before on Tucker - I don't think he'll age well. I'm guessing most teams feel the same as well, as I'm sure he wanted a long term contract and I don't think he was getting offered that by anyone?
  4. Agreed and all those guys are aging....Schwarber it seems better than the other two. Realmuto and Nola ain't exactly in their primes either.
  5. It's all monopoly money for the Dodgers with that big tv contract money they get every year and will be for the next 12. They don't care if they overpay and they don't care if Tucker is injured half the time or having to pay huge tax penalties. They are playing in a different pool than everyone else....even Cohen and the Mets. They get $334 million a year from that tv contract before any other revenue comes in. If they get stuck with bad contracts they can just buy their way out and don't even blink.
  6. Agreed, I think Shaw as a super utility guy potentially strengthens our bench significantly from last year and has some real value. I'd love to get a fourth outfielder, but it seems maybe they are going give Alcantara the runway to sink or swim?
  7. Especially when he's one of the best players in MLB at his position and you have an opportunity to play for something meaningful NOW.
  8. I agree on all this Victor. I don't think their hot shot AAA pitcher is the overwhelming get it would take. At least not in my opinion and I don't think Jed's either.
  9. Tucker just seems uncomfortable in almost any situation I've seen him in. That's just who he is. I remember at Cubs convention last year he just seemed ill at ease and I was thinking "maybe he doesn't want to be here", but my in-laws are big Astro fans and they said that's just the way he is - it was just in Houston you had well established leaders and he could easily hide in the shadows. Sharma or Moody even said in their podcasts they really never got to know him to well that he cleared out of the locker room pretty fast - he was cordial and all that, but he just preferred to be to himself. Now some of the injury stuff I had and still have questions about and how he handled his part of that, but they weren't my injuries so I can't really judge effectively or fairly....just my perception.
  10. Perhaps, no way for us to really know. Busch and PCA seemed to manage it a bit better. How many HR's do you think the wind cost him last year?
  11. Good points all I think. I think any chance the "he would fall in love with Wrigley stuff" ended when he got booed for not running out the ground ball. And honestly, I did not have that big a problem with him getting booed there. He's a good hitter and underrated base stealer, but as I said above, I question how well he'll age and he seems to be regressing defensively - which is why teams are balking at long term deals I think.
  12. I never had the idea even when the Cubs first signed him that they were gonna play in the 10-year contract pool, but as you allude to yes - the 3 year.....back a year ago I would have said maybe. But the experience was a very odd one with Tucker. He's personality is very quite and to some can come across as aloof. The pinky fracture was a weird period where you could question how the team handles some things and also that Tucker himself got out of sorts with his swing so that even when it was better he was off. Then the "calf strain" stuff just never sat well with me and I had more of an issue with Tucker on that that the Cubs. He was frankly a below average right fielder last year - I kept rationalizing for him on that but a full year - home and away he just was not very good. I don't get the idea that Tucker will age well, and I suspect that's how most teams are projecting him now, hence the 3-year stuff coming out. I'm o.k. with the direction we went here, I wish Tucker well.
  13. I honestly can't see any other scenario here - I mean unless as someone else said, unless it's Logan Webb, their prospects don't jump out at you and neither does anyone else as you say. Some other teams may have something that would move the needle, I just don't think the Giants do?
  14. What can they offer that would get our attention to even consider?
  15. I'd like a 4th outfielder - I'm not sure Alcantra is ready and when he might ever be? Tauchman??
  16. I can't say I'm always good with an overpay, but I'm typically more concerned with overpay in years more than $$$. I'm good with both with Bregman, I agree with the Cubs that he will age relatively well.
  17. I do to. There seems to be a segment of fans who think this means one of them is certain to be traded now. I don't want that to happen.
  18. Exactly, I don't think very many of us at all believed they actually would including me. Bit of an overpay? Maybe, but sometimes you have to do that to get meaningful piece to play a title. I think Bregman makes us better, makes our bench better by allowing Shaw to play a utility role, already a significant upgrade from any of the bench pieces from last year. Jed obviously likes him, he offered him a deal last year that he had to ask Tom permission to give last year and didn't get him. Their projections indicate he'll age well. I certainly hope so. But I'm excited our front office stepped up.
  19. I would say "most" might be debatable. I still hear many today lauding the trade as an example of the things the Cub front office used to do but does not any more. But I do remember personally feeling a bit uneasy about it after hearing what he did or was alleged to have done.
  20. And Starlin Castro as well. I have no issue with holding any of these guys to account if they abused women. and all have alleged to have - Russell admitted to it and publicly apologized - not sure if Chapman or Castro ever did? My perception is that Russell seems to get more blowback about it that the other two....maybe i'm reading that incorrectly, just my perception. But again - I'm not saying that we should not question the invite for Russell - he said he would own it and this is part of owning that. I'm frankly surprised he would come.
  21. Do we hold Aroldis Chapman to the same standard if it comes to him being invited and accepted?
  22. I was using Happ's show as an example of how much personal numbers do matter to those guys. And their legacy matters. So I think it pertains and I'll give my reasoning. And specifically to Belli he well knows if the money is equal or close it IMHO it would be a consideration that he without question could put up better numbers in his final years at Yankee Stadium vs. Wrigley or almost any other park. Now if some team offers him $5 million more a year....of course that would almost certainly weigh more heavily in his decision. But if all things were equal or close to equal I absolutely think playing in a stadium that is best for your personal production offensively matters.
  23. I don't know - numbers matter to those guys. I don't think for a second hitting 25 homers instead of 17 in a season and 50 more homers over 7 or 8 years doesn't matter to Belli or any player. List to Happs podcast when they talk baseball, those things matter to them. Now to what percentage that matters in deciding where to go, hell I could not begin to say definitively, probably varies from player to player.
  24. It's such a better place for him - he'll get an extra 5-7 cheap home runs there at least. Unless they just don't want him - or he just loves Chicago more than New York - it would be foolish of him to not go back there if they want him.
