  1. The Crime Dog was Edwin Jackson before Edwin Jackson was cool.
  2. Yeah, this makes sense. It’s not as if nine days is going to impact much anyway.
  3. Welcome! BTW, I'm responding to every person who posts as a message that I have manually bypassed the post approval process for them so they can post freely on the site right off the bat.
  4. Good points, though it could simply come down to comfort level or experience. Maybe Fulmer is just more able and willing to open a game.
  5. I disagree and that's one of the biggest problems with BTV. The reality is that teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, et al care about production in the short- or mid-term far more than they care about the back-end of contracts. But BTV weights contracts strictly on dollars vs expected performance. I think Goldschmidt has a ton of value. I think Arenado has significant value to the right team.
  6. Yesterday, catcher Jose Trevino had season-ending wrist surgery, leaving a roster vacancy on the New York Yankees. The Yankees have several moving pieces, which complicate the situation for them. First, they're 3.0 games back of the final Wild Card berth. It's hard to envision the Yankees packing it in and giving up entirely but they may not focus on upgrading at catcher in favor of shoring up other positions. First, they have top prospect Austin Wells in AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He's 24 years old and while he's not having a great offensive season, it's entirely possible the Yankees could consider him good enough for a stretch run. Another complicating factor is the remaining Yankee catcher, Kyle Higashioka. He is 33 years old and also having a down year offensively, posting a 75 OPS+ over 61 games. Yan Gomes is controlled through the 2024 season and is under a very reasonable $6 million contract for 2023. He's also having a very nice offensive season for a catcher, currently sporting a 96 OPS+ over 63 games for the Cubs.

  8. In an article today, Matt brings up an excellent point: what about packaging Gomes in with Stroman to increase the return by a significant amount?
  9. Michael Fulmer is the opener for Drew Smyly today, which is probably a good idea to stymy the Cardinals' right-handed bats at the top of the order. Had a nice - but tense - win yesterday, let's get another one today.
  10. I split this out into its own topic. The NSBB folks roll their eyes at me but I really encourage people to start a new topic if they want to talk about something and don’t see a relevant thread. It spurs discussion and makes a forum more readable for newer and/or sporadic users.
  11. This is the sixth game thread of the 2023 season that has gone over 100 replies. We'll revive these damned things if we just keep at it.
  12. His WPA is positive so he can't be bad in high leverage situations.
  13. Get some outs, please. Stop St Louis, I hate them so much.
  14. Started a topic for PSD users to give their feedback and commentary if they have ideas for NSBB:
  15. We're always looking to expand our coverage or make things better for users here at NSBB. What things would you like to see on the site, were there things you really liked about PSD that aren't here? Any commentary and/or suggestions are welcome. I already know about Tapatalk so let's not focus on that. It's just not a feasible option here, NSBB is too large and comprehensive to work within Tapatalk's framework. It's far more likely we someday launch a standalone app.
  16. One of those rare plays where no matter how much you slow it down, I don't think you're going to be able to tell whether the ball reached the glove or the foot reached the base first.
  17. Yeah, that's definitely the current result but I don't like that the players are the ones getting squeezed in the process, particularly mid-tier free agents.
  18. Apple TV's scorebug and stat pop-ups are proof that minimalist design is just a more attractive presentation than most sport broadcasts trying to go EXTREMEEEMEEME!!!11 on everything.
