the 1980 game against the russians is infinitely more important to american hockey than this game could ever be. while this canadian team is a team full of all-stars, that russian team made a habit of beating nhl teams and thrashed the canadian all-stars in the challenge cup in 1979. they proceeded to parade the challenge cup around like the head of a conquered king until being humbled at lake placid. but really, there's no comparison between that russian team and this canadian team. that russian team would have beaten them to death with their own hockey trees.

My wife and her friends, the closest thing I know to figure skating fans, thought the same thing. i think nagasu is the favorite for the gold in sochi, though. she honestly skated flawlessly. not that there's anything wrong with that.
