  1. spoiled a nasty pitch? that was the spinniest of spinning sliders
  2. i assure you, my reasons are purely superficial. but then again, i don't think ryno would be allowed to do much damage with the cubs.
  3. just say you like thick onion gravy and be done with it.
  4. why does this colby lewis look exactly likie chris carpenter?
  5. But I guess if it's what Theo wants, I can reluctantly get behind it though. you give managers way too much credit. ryno will be fine because he has a guy in the front office who knows what he's doing, any manager will look like a genius with theo pulling the strings. read the moneyball chapter about art howe. i just want a manager that looks the part.
  6. Just because a song is written about something you like doesn't make it good. Song is written in a depressing tone and isn't about bringing it home, its about SOMEDAY winning it all. Someday being who knows how long. "Someday we'll go all the way" is the same thing as saying "Wait til next year" eddie vedder is the modern-day rod stewart or phil collins!
  7. what happens now?
  8. Still keep Wilken at a smaller role. i hate to say i told you so
  9. what does "hold people accountable" really mean? the manager is much easier to get rid of than a player.
  10. what the hell does that mean? a well put-together large market team is going to have bats that produce runs no matter what. if the cubs have a talented, productive lineup, bunting situationally isn't really going to hurt. and i doubt that ryno will be looked upon kindly if he's bunting with the second batter of the game with regularity or ever, actually.
  11. Do we even know what type of philosophy Sandberg has? From what I've heard he seems to be exceedingly "small ball." "small ball" isn't really a dangerous philosophy for a large market team to have. people seem hung up on this. if theo puts a good team in front of him, he can do little to screw it up with the occasional bunting and stealing and micromanaging. in the regular season, at least.
  12. Over the course of an 82 game season season I'm glad they limit the OT time. No reason to make these guys play that much harder for 5 more minutes a night. yeah, 10 minutes seems much too long.
  13. what kind of players did the mariners get for fister? just curious.
  14. Not sure what people see as "fairly short order", but at 5 hours or more per post approval, it's going to be rather hard for anyone to be a part of the conversation here or to make a quick quip. As to the Cubs fan "again" comment, really? Blood in the water for the faithful here? I was referring to a renewed sense of interest and love for the team that I have lived and died with for over 30 years. Pretty sure I'm not the only one that lost interest and refused to spend any money on the debacle that were the Cubs the last couple of years. This board has a very clique-like mentality, afaik. It limits the amount of people wiling to post here and endure the hazing atmosphere. In turn, this limits input and diversity. Tim and the Mods would do well to try to eliminate that kind of behavior instead of protecting everyone from "spam-bots" imho. You have the ability to moderate after an offending post is made, correct? Hence the comment about a board that feels the need to moderate both before AND after the fact. Just my .02 Flame on. :hello: hi! do you like thick onion gravy?
  15. it is disturbing to see this trend of people who actually want the cubs to be bad next season because they somehow think that means that things are getting better. it's like they can't be a good team in 3 years because they're good next year. the cubs are a big market team, drafting well and cultivating a strong system will allow them to sign necessary players to huge and inefficient contracts because they may do a thing or two very well.
  16. derp the cubs should, nay, MUST lose next season! derp
  17. Man, Bernstein used to be good....it's sad how dumb he's gotten. he just doesn't understand that as his power develops, the walks will come. bernstein is in the infancy stage of understanding statistical analysis, he thinks walks are something completely created without causing a negative effect somewhere else. it's likely that is castro walks more with all else being equal, his slugging will decline at this stage of his career. but if his power continues to improve, he will naturally come in to walks.
  18. bernstein talking about how we need to hire someone to be a castro coach.
  19. i think the biggest factor that goes into pitcher injuries is movement when you are in your motion. look at guys like verlander and lincecum. those guys LOOK herky-jerky, but the movement actually disperses the stress. i know it's just two examples, but wood and prior both have and had very quiet motions and deliveries, seemingly very sound, same with strasburg. i can see injuries continuing to be an issue for him.
  20. 3 words thick...........onion..............gravy. gallons full. Yes I saw your comment in the CSN chat do you like thick onion gravy?
