  1. Soriano. The back half of that contract is going to be ugly ugly ugly. If we wait til he starts declining he won't be movable, so he has to go now.
  2. I didn't know this was allowed. It's a great idea. If you're desperately short-handed in the pen you're much better off taking a chance on putting a weak defender in LF for one batter than wasting a reliever. Resop in LF couldn't be much worse than Daryle Ward in RF.
  3. If you're knocking Frankenberry Crunch, we have a problem. Frankenberry was the best of the monster cereals when I was a kid. Lucky Charms was good too, but back then we didn't know that leprechauns were monsters.
  4. personally, i think count chocula just like how his product fits with the boo-berry. you're getting a range of scariness from your breakfast cereals that most other products cannot hope to achieve. I'm sure Prior had this conversation before he agreed to put on the costume.
  5. I've never understood why a vampire would be obsessed with chocolate, especially in non-liquid form. Hershey's chocolate syrup maybe, but not cereal.
  6. And the Cubs are equally entitled to reconsider not blocking the view. No argument here. A handshake deal is legally non-binding. It's only valid as long as both parties say it is.
  7. I've based my life on a simple motto: There's never a bad time to look at a Count Chocula costume.
  8. Found the Count Chocula pic on a costume website. Did Prior model the costume? That guy in the Chocula outfit looks distinctly Prioresque. http://images.starpulse.com/Photos/pv/Mark%20Prior-1.JPG http://images.buycostumes.com/mgen/merchandiser/21181.jpg http://www.buycostumes.com/Category/0/Product/21181/ProductDetail.aspx
  9. The Cubs didn't care until the rooftop owners began meddling and held up the building permit when they first started planning the bleacher expansion, as they were afraid the expansion would interfere with their views, and hence, their profits. The rooftop owners brought it on themselves. Exactly. Also, while thats the rooftop owner's property, Wrigley and what goes on inside it belongs to the Cubs and they have every right to block that view if they want to (barring any crazy Chicago zoning laws that I don't know about). It's like complaining about me putting up curtains in my house because I don't want nosy neighbors looking in. Yeah, I agree. The Cubs absolutely have the right to modify their property to block a view. However, if the Cubs choose NOT to block the view then the neighbors are still entitled to enjoy the view from the property as they see fit. Unless there is an agreement in place that they would pay. Depends on the legal status of the agreement. Was it just a handshake deal, or was there a legally binding contract? If so, were there penalties stipulated in the event of a breach of the terms? If it was only a handshake deal then people are entitled to reconsider it.

  11. I've never understood this mentality that rooftop owners are stealing from the Cubs. People are entitled to enjoy the view from their property. If the Cubs coveted the view from those buildings then the Cubs should have bought those buildings.
  12. I have nothing against Corey, but I feel compelled to root for him to flop in Cincy so we can see the Reds get crippled by a lethal Dusty/Pierre combo.
  13. This thread should be moved to Transactions because it's about to turn into a speculation about Pierre's destination. There's no question he will want to be moved, and he's proven himself enough of a whiny cancerous beotch to make it happen. He would have been a happy fit for the Reds up til about a month ago. I guess he could still end up there if Corey has a lousy April, which is entirely possible.
  14. If you're going to put Barry Manilow in then you open the door for all the soft rockers of the 70's. That should be a separate poll. 70's soft rock was a unique species of music and not just a watered down version of the harder rock of its era, unlike the milder radio-friendly rock of today.
  15. "Rock of Ages" - Def Leppard "Beat It" - Michael Jackson "Iron Man" - Black Sabbath
  16. "Victim of Changes" - Judas Priest.
  17. Murton's gotta go. It's not his fault but he'll be a lousy use of a roster spot if he stays.
  18. Remains to be seen if he'll stay thin. Z has a tendency to lose weight in the offseason and steadily gain it back during the season.
  19. Pierre's contract is the worst because the Dodgers got exactly the player they paid for. To my way of thinking the absolute worst contract is the one that gives you a guy who doesn't underachieve and doesn't get hurt, yet the contract still ends up being an embarrassment. You pay a big pile of money for a turd, you end up with a turd, then you act appalled that you have a turd.
  20. Lou is the new Dusty. What is Lou's logic for this? I'm utterly baffled.
  21. duh. Lite beer is evil. Even though cell phones are mixed blessing, that's still better than light beer. cell phones cause huge tumors, light beer makes you have a smaller beer belly this is a no-brainer for me If you want a smaller gut drink wine. Any mediocre shiraz tastes a helluva lot better to me than light beer.
  22. Gary Hart.
  23. The Rowand contract is particularly bad because he'll be declining by the time the Giants are competitive again, and he'll also be getting $12M annually. That was a nonsensical move for a rebuilding team. Upper management should have stopped that deal.
  24. None of this makes sense unless someone above Sabean ordered him to change course and start rebuilding. The Rowand and Vizquel contracts were not the moves of a GM who was looking to rebuild. If upper management is really so disenchanted with Sabean's direction they ought to bring in a new GM.
