  1. I guess Howry is not a replacement option for Dempster? BCB
  2. I assume some sort of loss by the Cubs. Or he could be quoting one of our pitchers getting ready to throw a pitch. :D BCB
  3. Is that even possible, even if you are not trying? Simply amazing! BCB
  4. Going out on a limb here and predicting that one run is not going to win this game! BCB
  5. I guess we will be seeing a lot of Neifi at short the next week. Dude, I asked him to bunt, just couldn't get it down. These rooks are killing us, dude. BCB
  6. Otherwise known as shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic! Sorry, could not help myself. BCB
  7. So I guess having D Lee behind him would have been a good thing. Same could be said if they had signed Tejada or Vlad when they had the opportunity. The extent at which the Cubune explains fiscal responsibilty to NOT sign a player is one of the main reasons why they currently have this heap called the Cubs this year. Fiscal responsibility means having to overpay for a superior ball player, which down the line will pay dividends. Instead we get scrap heap players signing multi million dollar contracts for multiple years. The way this ball club was put together and how poor a job the front office is doing, is speaking volumes this year. BCB
  8. Jim Hendry and Andy MacPhail are very upset with you! Next year they would apprectiate you buying your tickets first! BCB
  9. Are you actually Al from the Bleed Cubbie Blue blog? It doesn't really sound like him. No, this is the only board I post on, sometimes on Cubs.com, but not too often anymore. BCB
  10. I agree, and I will probably not be attending a game this year, maybe later in the year, when things are really quiet. But I know that there are a lot of people out there who have always wanted to attend a game there, but cannot because of how scare tickets can be, I just don't think people need to pay 2 or 3 times a ticket price to see a game of baseball. There are a lot of people out there who cannot afford that kind of price, and there is nothing better than taking a youngster to his/her first game at Wrigley, even if the product isn't what you want it to be. These kind of years make it possible for the small guy, and I am all about being for the small guy. Unfortunately, whether the seats are full or not, the Cobs have made their money off ticket sales. The only place they will get hit now is concessions and souvenirs. BCB
  11. Although I am sure that this has been happening on a regular basis over the last month or 2 now, but you can snap up pretty good tickets now on the day of game, if you are so inclined to do. The product is pretty pathetic right now, but for those of you who could not get tickets and have been wanting to see the park in person, but could not because of the lack of available tickets, it looks like they are no longer a problem. Now is your chance to snap up good tickets without having to pay the scalper fees. I just tried to get 2 for tonight, and they came back with seats right up close and personal. BTW, not going to the game, just was curious to see how many of the season ticket holders are no longer going to games, looks to be a lot. BCB
  12. Unless he was a Brewers fan, I probably would have thanked him for blocking my view. Who wants to watch this train wreck? BCB
  13. Why? Because they win so much? Too much winning for your tastes? I guess you root for the right team then! 6 members? I guess misery does love company, or maybe just enjoys spreading it? BCB
  14. Translation.....if bringing him back means less fannies in the seats, which would mean less money for the bottom line, they they won't. It is all about the benjamins for the Cubune, but the problems with this team run very, very deep, so just getting rid of Johnny B will be a start, but there is so much more to be done. He does need to go, but in no way is this team even close to competing for the NL Central division with a new manager to pilot this train wreck. BCB
  15. Which would also be the reason they have 13 winning seasons in a row, with multiple WS championships to show for it, during that same time period. Add to that, 6 WS appearances, with 4 WS championships. Oh, wait a minute.......this last statement is true. Slice it anyway you like, having a larger payroll usually correlates to a better team, and one that will contend for a WS championship, unless of course you are the Cubs. Right now, I would take just making a WS. BCB
  16. The classic examples are the 1991 Braves and Twins. I think that's the only time in baseball history when both World Series teams finished last the previous season. To point out the obvious, neither of those 2 team names are spelled C-U-B-S. In other words, I am not holding out hope that this will be our case next season, but I guess one can always dream. BCB
  17. There was a time that this was true, when it was the person, not the building, but either way, both management teams were clueless. BCB
  18. If George Steinbrenner or Mark Cuban owned the Cubs for as long as the Tribune has, they would have won, or at least gotten to a WS. The difference is that the Tribune is always worried about bottom line. Yes, there are teams that have won WS championships on less money, but your chances are greatly more improved if you have a larger payroll, which usually translates into having better ball players, unless of course, you have Jim Hendry and Andy MacPhail running the team in a fiscally responsible way. As you can see, even with a 100 million dollar payroll, they seem to have assembled a team that resembles a team closer to the Pirates or the Royals, which, when you think about it, is almost impossible to do, but they seem to keep proving it. I never thought that any GM hired after Ed Lynch could ever make him look like a genius, but Hendry seems to have done that. Wrigley itself has nothing to do with the Cubs not winning a WS championship in the last 98 years, but everything with the way the team has run. BCB
  19. At this point, I don't think it matters. Sad, really, really sad. BCB
  20. Well if you are going to call people out after a good start at triple A, I would think it is only fair to come back after a bad outing at the major league level? I can tell you no one wanted to see him do badly his first outing, but give people a little more credit then expecting things to turn around instantly once these injured guys come back from injury. The problem is that it takes time to get going once back, and as you can see from Wood, and now Prior, it is going to take some time, something this team ran out of last month. Expect the same from D Lee when he comes back. Anyone still believe the "well Houston did it last year" stuff? BCB
  21. Not to fear, we got Piror coming back, then things will be alright with the universe again! BCB
  22. Kerry Wood has made us this way. And not to rain on the parade, unless things turn around quickly, it is nice that he is coming back, but it looks like it may be too little too late. This season is pretty much in the toilet, and the reasons for this is pretty much trusting that Wood and Prior would be here anchoring the rotation. Instead, they always seem to be on the shelf. I know that is not their fault that they are hurt, but to think I am going to be completely excited about his return when this season is in the tank is wrong. Even if he comes back strong and wins 12-15 games, what makes one think that he will be healthy enough again next time spring training comes around? I thought with a shortened season last year, with a long offseason, he would be coming back strong for this year, but after almost 3 months into this season, I was wrong. Don't have a lot of confidence about next year. Isn't "next year", is what being a Cub fan is all about? Well I have been thru quite a few of them now, and to quote Brokeback, for our friend who started this thread, "I wish I could quit them", but I can't. BCB
  23. Seeing that we are generalizing here, maybe it is a Texas thing? To quote our fearful leader; "you are either with me or against me", and as you can see, there is a lot of wiggle room for debate in there. I guess everyone from Texas has this same mentality? I think I speak for everyone here, we just want to see him pitching for the Cubs every fifth day. It has nothing to do with hating anything or anyone. BCB
  24. LOL!!! True. Hopefully the enigma known as Pierre is not there. BCB
  25. Well it looks like we will be defending the simulate title we seem to win every year! I heard the Cubs are favorites to win the simulated WS once again with Wood on the DL again! BCB
