  1. yeah, but ucla has more titles than like any other school. it would have been nice to have gotten just one in champaign. :pig: As SSR is quick to remind me, I have only been alive for 1. :( true, and were you a fan of them at the time? i mean, have they been your college team since before you were a student? for the record, they screwed my pool that year, if arkansas had won it, i would have gotten like 500 bucks. do you know how much 500 bucks is to a 17 year old in 1995? it's like a million dollars. I was a fan of them in 1995 but not die hard or anything like I am now. In fact, I remember being more mad that the Bulls lost a regular season game (in the 72 win season) than UCLA losing to Princeton in the first round. And you should never bet on a team with Scoreless Corliss. Funny, worked fine the year before.
  2. Gotta admit, I did miss the "Beat L.A." chants.
  3. I like how the question is two different questions.
  4. Jordan Farmar has been ridiculous lately. And the Kobe steal + overhead throw to jumping Luke + behind the back pass while still in the air to Odom for the slame was beautiful.
  5. Talk about not even being close to correct. I've only seen him slam into someone once or twice. Certainly nothing close to like an AP. McFadden is a speedster and uses his speed, and not much else, to avoid contact. He's an exceptional talent, no doubt, but I just don't know how good he'll be in the pros. Don't claim to have watched him a lot when you clearly haven't. One of my biggest concerns about his NFL prospects is that he's going to beat himself up pursuing contact as much as he tends to. My being a "homer" means nothing beyond pointing out distinct fallacies in your commentary. I haven't even claimed he's a better prospect than Mendenhall, who i'm extremely high on, so don't give me this homer business. "Speed and not much else" is in a whole other universe from the facts.
  6. That's surprising considering how successful he was in college. Don't listen to Mike Mayock about this one. That guy has a vandetta against McFadden for some reason. I love Mendenhall but if you gave me the choice of either, I'd take McFadden without much thought. yeah i have a hard time believing that the guy was running about 6 yards a pop without breaking some tackles. His high rushing average is due in large part (at least in my opinion) to his breakout runs he'd get alot. I get to see a good bit of SEC football down here and it seemed to me like McFadden's rushes would go something like 2 yards, no gain, 7 yards, 2 yards, 18 yards, 1 yard, -3 loss, 28 yards, 70 yards, 2 yards, etc. He depended totally on his speed and would rarely bowl over people, like Peterson (uber-stud), or juke people out of their shoes, like Bush (a bust). He seemed to just take off and people wouldn't be able to get a hand on him. With the speed the NFL seems to have at LB these days, I don't think he's going to get those big runs like he got in college. Not even close to correct. Depended totally on his speed? He ran primarily between the tackles. Jones was the corner guy. The issue is his small lower body. IF you get at his legs, he can be tripped up. If you go at him high, give him a chance to lower his shoulder, or get within stiff-arm range, he will gain another 2-5 yards and/or take off your helmet.
  7. Borderline?
  8. Jim should pursue the extension option. Have you seen his hairline lately?
  9. http://www.nba.com/media/rmccants_400_080226.jpg I meant to post ths in this thread.
  10. Mutumbola show!
  11. And won.
  12. Just watched the runs on the site...is there no way Kevin Smith could have concealed the package better? Anyway there will be a LOT of quality backs in the 2nd-4th rounds. I wasn't really expecting Ray Rice to be in the 4.4 range, but he was. I wasn't expecting Kevin Smith to be, either, but he was.
  13. Wow, VERY nice. Peyton, with his speed and his running ability and his blocking and his catching, could've been a 1st rounder 10 years ago. NFL teams don't use fullbacks that much anymore, though, so the demand is down. I'd LOVE to have him as a Dolphin.
  14. Chris Johnson ran 4.24. This is an INSANELY deep year for backs.
  15. Jones ran a 4.44 and Shard ran a 4.43 I expected a little better from Felix, though that is by no means bad. Pretty darn impressed with Shard, though. How'd Stewart do? EDIT: huh, the site has completely different scores. 4.45 for Shard, 4.47 for Jones, Jamaal Charles (another favorite) at 4.38, and Stewart at 4.48.
  16. I'm really interested to see how Felix Jones does. This could send his stock soaring, given a standout performance today. How did Mendenhall do? Have they said?
  17. Beast. Where are you geting combine info? They're televising it on NFL Network. Don't know where on the internet you could find it though. Maybe nfl.com? I see McFadden is officially 6'1 1/4", 211 from looking at a video there. Still haven't seen results yet, though.
  18. Beast. Where are you geting combine info?
  19. As if Zach leaving wasn't bad enough, he had to sign with the freaking Cowboys. :(
  20. that is a bold statement as he can barely create his own shot, dependent on an all-star distributor to get him the ball in the paint. but he's a fantastic finisher. Playing with Nash makes him better, no doubt. But if you don't think he would be a very good player on any team I think you are crazy. Good thing he didn't say that he wasn't a very good player. He just said he isn't the best player. Not an earth-shattering statement. Acutally what you quoted is saying more than that. A guy who can barely create his own shot and is dependant on someone else to get him the ball in the paint would usually imply that the player isn't very good. Most good players can create their own shots. Well Amare can create his own shot off of rebounds and post-moves. He can't off the dribble, but most bigs can't. He's good, not great. I agree he is a good player. I do think he will get the chance to create more now off of the dribble. I think he will be able to some. ..."good" has to cover an awful lot of ground if Amare is just "good." He's 3rd in the league in PER, first in PER48. but that's quite obviously aided by Nash making the game easier for him. Compare that to Howard who has to work his way into position on the low post and create his own shots much more often without an elite distributor. Amare's an outstanding player but not the best at his position. How many assists do you think Amare gets per game from Nash? It certainly helps, but not as much as you're suggesting. And I'm specifically talking about him at PF, where he'll be out in the open court much more, and will be banging against slower, less athletic players. Also, Amare can hit free throws.

  22. Bold statement of the day: Amare as a PF may be the best player in the league. Good Lord, Chris Paul. Almost a points/assists/steals triple double tonight.
  23. This is still my favorite VC dunk.
  24. Kemp didn't really have weight issues until late in his career. Howard is 22. Not a meaningful comparison. Also had pretty much nothing to do with the original comment.
  25. So according to per. Chris Bosh, T.J. Ford, and Jose Calderon are all ahead of utah's best player. Yet Utah, playing in the much better west, has a much better record. Huh. Guess that per crap really isn't so fool proof. Basketball isn't tennis where it's one guy against another. It's a TEAM game. A great player does need other pieces around him to win. If they have 3 before the other teams top that is 3/5 of said team on the court. Ford and Calderon are both PG's and Ford has only played in 21 games this year so you can't really count him. And after the top two, the Raptors only have Kris Humphries above league average (which is 15) at 16.1 which puts them at three total (or four if you want to count Ford). The Jazz, however, have six players above league average in Williams, Boozer, Kirilenko, Millsap, Brewer and Harpring. They have two others - Ronnie Price at 14.9 (who I'm counting as well though he's only played 32 games) and Kyle Korver at 14.4 - who are nearly at league average. So that's eight players who are above, or very close to, league average for the Jazz as opposed to four for Toronto. Do they have per dating back to the early 90's? I just don't think depth matters that much in the NBA. I am curious to know the Bulls rankings, but way too tired to look it up. basketball-reference.com.
