  1. I'm feeling the same way for lambasting the Panthers for taking Stewart over Mendenhall at the moment. This is a hell of an entertaining game. Isn't 2 games a little early to decide who was the right pick of those 3? Absolutely, but considering that Shard is doing pretty much nothing, and Jones is an established special teams beast with still quite a bit of upside as a rusher...well, I'm an obvious homer, but I don't think he was getting the respect he deserved--and I really don't think Cowboys fans are in any way disappointed with what they've gotten.
  2. Incedentally, sopcast is pretty awesome.
  3. Hey. I hate the Cowboys, but I just came in here to say: Remember when people were giving the Cowboys crap for picking Felix Jones when Rashard Mendenhall was still on the board?
  4. Agree completely that polls are useless before midseason at least. But they do help maintain some interest, and the BCS doesn't start until that late anyway.
  5. Pac-10 went 3-7 today.
  6. You mean the Coliseum, not the Rose Bowl. USC and the Coliseum are at the very northern edge of South Central LA, one of the worst neighborhoods in the U.S. They're about 5 miles from Watts. The Rose Bowl is in a very affluent neighborhood in northwestern Pasadena. I thought they changed it to South LA, to escape the rep. Oh yeah. It'll always be South Central to me (and Ice Cube). Word is, busting caps is fundamental.

  8. That's what you get for violating teams like that at home.
  9. Sorry you had to find out your beautiful girlfriend was a dude. :(
  10. What a BYUtiful disaster.
  11. Even with the "issues" with Vince, if the Jags are main contenders the Titans have to be too. They were similar heading into the year and the Titans just beat them. I think the favorites in the AFC right now are the Colts, Steelers and Chargers. Merriman's injury hurts them, but San Diego still has fewer questions than the Jags or Titans. The biggest thing holding San Diego back is the head coach, Norv Turner. That said, I don't completely rule out the Patriots yet. That defense is still strong and, if they can bring in a decent QB, they still have Moss and Welker at receiver and Maroney in the backfield. I forgot about the Titans. #-o Maybe this will help.
  12. oh wow i hadn't even thought about that. yeah if ike takes the expected track i'm pretty sure they're gonna have to call off that game. the conditions would be horrible to play, but the bigger concern is that you don't want 100,000 people outdoors or traveling to/from the game. Wow, your location is funny given my phrasing of the above. And Austin was supposed to be an evac center, but now it's possible that Austion will need to BE evacuated. It's a mess, that's for sure.
  13. So Arkansas-Texas is pretty much in limbo right now, with the impending hurricane. Postponement would be perfectly fine with me. For some reason I can't even begin to explain, I fell much better about the Hogs' chances against Bama than against UT.
  14. I posted this in last weeks college football thread yesterday. They also had this article about the teams that play the most BCS schools. The big flaw in both is that it doesn't consider the level of competition a team is playing outside of separating between BCS and non-BCS (i.e. playing Minnesota = playing Ohio State since they're both BCS schools) but it's still interesting. Yes, that's a flaw. There's also a chicken-egg argument where that is concerned.
  15. Felix Jones is good. Go figure.
  16. Yay, I will probably get to watch the Hogs get perforated.
  17. Well, Dolphins put up a fight. Weird how they had no running game at all--OLine still needs time to gel.
  18. I want to know why, when I clicked on "post reply," i got sent to laserspineinstitute.com. Well, if there's nothing else I can say about my Hogs, I can certainly say that they're resilient. Even though it was against Western Illinois and Louisiana-Monroe, they've come back from ten point fourth quarter deficits in two straight weeks to win games. And, for the second straight week, a freshman wide receiver had a big game. This time it was Joe Adams, the last-minute signee who decommitted from USC on signing day, who snagged 7 balls for 89 yards and picked up another 9 yards on a reverse. And DJ Williams had a monster game at tight end, catching 5 balls for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Williams may end up the best pass catching tight end in the nation before it's all said and done. And Casey Dick went 22 for 34 for 323 yards and 2 touchdowns for his second striaght 300 yard game. On the downside...just about everything. Defensive collpase, lack of scoring for a team that put up over 500 yards...what else do you want? Here comes the fun part. Escuse me, "fun" part. Depending on how Alabama moves in the polls the next two weeks, Arkansas could have a string of four straight top 10 teams on its schedule next, with Texas, Alabama, Florida, and Auburn coming up. I would honestly be ecstatic if the Hogs took ONE of those games. This is an extremely young team with a ton of new starters (6 on offense, a whopping nine on defense), a new system, and a new coach to adjust to. They'll be playing their best football at the end of the season, most likely. Here's hoping they improve enough to lead into next year. Man, this is not gonna be fun.
  19. I get the feeling there's gonna be a lot of good news, bad news with this year's Hogs. Good news: Michael Smith already has 121 yards rushing in the first half. Joe Adams looks good. Hogs have 217 yards of offense to LeMUr's 100. Bad news: Tejada's missed an extra point and two field goal attempts. How the hell do you end up down at the half given all of the above? Dick's been sacked 3 times in the first half. Arkansas needs to produce results. Next weekend is looking really, really bad right now.
  20. I haven't seen either game. How good is ECU, really?
  21. Did I know you were a Dolphins fan? I remember there being another one here, but I don't know if it was you or another guy.
  22. Who's starting at tailback? And I can say I don't care about the Bears this year. But then, I'm a Dolphin fan. I'm very interested in seeing them develop this season. I think the team is capable of winning nine games, though it's more likely to win about six. They played extremely well in the preseason, but more importantly, they look much stronger in key areas. The offensive line has been a weakness for a half a decade, but it finally looks like a strength. The Dolphins should also have one of the top running games in football this year, barring major injury. And Ted Ginn Jr. looks to build on a season in which he came on strong down the stretch and has continued that progress through the preseason. He looks like a legit #1 receiver now, though still rough around the edges. TE and the other wideouts will make the difference in how far the Dolphins go this year. Having Ronnie Brown, who's a spectacular receiver out of the backfield, and Williams, who is a solid receiver, should help, as well as not having to depend on a rookie or second year quarterback. The Dephense ranked low last year, but that was deceiving, due to a horrible offense that kept the D on the field entirely too long too often. This year, in spite of losing Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor, they should be much improved. They'll be switching to a 3-4 scheme, which brings LB Channing Crowder back to the inside, where he's more natural. Joey Porter hopes to have a healthier season than he did a year ago, and the secondary should be much better if it's even moderately healthy. I should be an interesting season.
  23. There really aren't enough STFUs in the universe to cover the last page or two.
  24. I didn't expect Arkansas to have to come back to beat Western freaking Illinois. Looks like it was youth that nearly did them in: a ton of drops (Dick still completed 60% for over 300 yards ), busted coverages, and poor tackling. Keep in mind the Hogs lost their ENTIRE starting secondary and linebacking corps from last year. That is insane. Starting RB Michael Smith getting suspended for the game didn't help, either. On the plus side, Greg Childs got off, with 5 catches for 82 yards and a TD. Not bad for a freshman in his first game when he didn't even start. Arkansas is tremendously inexperienced and young. They will get much better this season. Unfortunately for them, the schedule only gets tougher. In other news, ASU BEAT A&M!!!!! I mean, it's probably more meaningful for A&M, but it's a big freaking deal for the...the...Red Wolves. (they just changed names this offseason.)
  25. how does he still have a job? i remember i made a poll about him and what level of football he was qualified to coach at. i believe that i voted "pop warner" I just laughed out loud when I realized he was still coaching Pitt. How does he still have a job? Beating WV?
