  1. How long do you think they let him go if he stays perfect? Like he's clearly not finishing this game, but if he sticks to ~10 pitches an inning do they let him go 7?
  2. Seal Boy missed a sign is my guess. Yeah that's what it seems like. Kuhl's a flyball guy, and Seal Boy's not a crazy groundball guy either. Not sure why the hit and run was necessary right there.
  3. The fact that it's backdated is an encouraging sign, but a triceps injury for a guy who's already had TJ is always acary.
  4. They're also 13-5 in one run games. There might be a little extra juice there on account of their vaunted bullpen, but record in ine run games is the quintessential luck stat that basically always normalizes eventually (except the Orioles that one year).
  5. If the Cubs come through here, is Ike Barinholtz the new gif theme?
  6. He's George Costanza mocking Derek Jeter for taking 6 games to win the world series
  7. OBP is a hell of a drug. Also, Javy has 9 errors already, so Addy's got a pretty decent defensive edge thus far. Errors don't really factor into advanced fielding metrics. Addy has superior range and a more accurate arm. "Error Runs" are a component of UZR/DRS. I'm not sure if they're 1:1 with the errors that come via the oficial scorer, but it's what's dragging Javy's defensive numbers down this year. (he's 3 runs below average on the year)
  8. I looked it up just because I was curious and not trying to make any point, but him and Javy have the same fWAR. That is surprising. OBP is a hell of a drug. Also, Javy has 9 errors already, so Addy's got a pretty decent defensive edge thus far.
  9. 93 MPH off the bat, that's on the weather
  10. Yes, but conventional wisdom is that since the NBA tolerates and even encourages its players to speak out on topics that mean something to them, they're happier to play ball on that topic. And in any case I think that's an old rule, made before this stuff blew up, that could be changed. Also, it was collectively bargained rather than implemented unilaterally.
  11. Yeah if we're going bat-only guys, give me Larnach over Beer. Though in that scenario, I'd be mighty tempted to take Groshans, Naylor, or Thomas. Those are three high quality well rounded high school position players. Though if we take a college bat I trust this FO implicitly that he's a good choice.
  12. [tweet] [/tweet]
  13. I've been crazy pessimistic about Lester but with how good he looked last time out plus striking out Jose Ramirez just now I'm nearly off the ledge.
  14. This reminds me of when Brian Wilson used to make an X with his arms (basically the wakanda gesture) after notching a save, and wouldn't tell anyone why he did it. Then eventually some batter did it after hitting a walkoff against him and he cried about how he it was meant to honor his dead friend or some other made up horsefeathers.
  15. I'm Renterially racking my brain trying to come up with a good Julio Lugo pun
  16. There is no way Manfred allows real money to be used for IFA money. The league doesn't like (doesn't allow?) straight money deals as is, something that would directly show that MLB is underpaying IFAs by 10x (or whatever the real number is) would be a real bad look. It's hard to say what those slots are worth now. My guess would be something like 5x their dollar value. That wouldn't be too painful of a prospect, even from our diluted system.
  17. Bauer's also been a reverse splits guy this year, so that might have something to do with it.
  18. Sahadev Sharma had a thing in the Athletic about this today. The Cubs actually have been inordinately inconsistent this year. He went on to point out though, everyone horsefeathered about last year's team for the same reason, and overall they ended up pretty normal. It's probably just SSS, made even more noticeable by the histrionics of the beat writers. Edit: Beaten...by like 10 minutes. Dammit Bertz, this is why you don't write 90% of a post and then go grab a snack.
  19. If they think he's actually a CF I could get behind that pick. Even as a RF I might not mind it if he's under slot.
  20. It's probably an Eric Thames situation. Hot start his first time around the league, then settles in as an averagish player. That'd still be a win for the Cardinalss considering his contract, but not quite peak Cardinals Devil Magic. Also, here are the team ranks in wRC+ for his opponents to start the year 22 (Brewers) 22 24 (Reds) 24 7 (Pirates 3 (Cubs) 26 (Padres) 20 (Twins) 23 (Royals) Good on him for beating the Pirates and Cubs in back to back starts but he's mostly benefited from a soft schedule.
  21. Except for the game tying 2 out double in the 8th earlier today Fair. But his approach has definitely not been as good as normal lately. Like the first inning of this game when he swung at a pitch at eye level. He's not a guy who normally does that.
  22. Let's see how they manage to get out of this one without scoring
