    it took me forever to make those stupid stat boxes so i'll thank you kindly to not quote them and make them screwed up i understand that they'd want to deal him, i just have no idea why neal cotts as a centerpiece would enter into the conversation. My money is on Marshall being traded for Mclouth. They have enough lefty junkballers. Murton might be their kind of guy. They have a progressive GM.

    Drew has 4/56 left. I always thought if Boston wanted to shed salary they would send cash with Drew. Now I don't think they have to. Murton for Drew?

    I love Prior. And I'd love to see him back. But your philosophy is termed "watering your weeds." Money already spent is water under the bridge. Is he worth the $3 million or so for what he will give you this year? Anything else is out of the Cubs' control.

    I thought some sort of three-way trade with Kearns going to Boston, Drew coming to us, and the usual suspects (Cedeno, Marshall, Gallagher) dangled in front of Washington would be on the table.

    I believe the 80% rule is now the 60% rule under the new CBA. That makes the minimum about $2.2 million in all your scenarios. Don't think Prior would have the chutzpah to ask for a raise in arbitration, do you?

The acquital of a cop killer leads to the murder of a defense attorney. Hey, I've seen this one, and I don't watch much L&O anymore. Free ad time for Fred! You know, I stopped watching L&O in Prime Time in late 1994. I think I'm pretty caught up. I trade better when I avoid CNBC. Last week I was in New York and I saw this guy in a ski cap and he looked so familiar! I realized; "Law and Order." He nodded. "The evil twin episode." He smiled. It was the guy who played the mobster-college professor twins. My family was very impressed. I think the Manhattan DA angle may help Giuliani, actually.

    Tribune sale closer to happening. The FCC proposed a waiver which gives Tribune time to comply with rules on concentration of media ownership. Great news.

    I was in the airport two weeks ago, November 15, and I saw a limo driver holding one of those signs with the name "Rowand." I asked the driver for the first name and he said something like Charles, I don't remember. I thought I had some sort of scoop.

    Sorry. Just a rehash of the Olney claim. Though the anchor did start the story with, "no, the Cubs are not shutting him down for the 2008 season."

    The Prior "trade talks" are gonna be on Sportscenter in the next three minutes.

    Wow! I know this deal happened last week, but I didn't care enough to check it out until now. Still waiting for Kaz. But 4/19 has me thinking. Are Dempster, Eyre and Ohman tradeable enough to be paid by their new teams? It is a tremendous arbitrage opportunity where middle relievers make about half of what a Fukudome is supposed to command. I guess the simple answer is that Fukudome will get a lot more than $10 million per year.

    If it has anything to do with getting Fukudome, or betters the chances of getting Fukudome - Kaz Matsui is not going to hurt this team. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts every day would be Christmas.

    I can't take this. I keep on returning to see if there is resolution. Whatever happens does not change the fact that Hendry wants Matsui, and if he does not get him he will attempt to do equally destructive things.

    That's pretty scary. A "proven reliever" having proven that he is not a good enough pitcher to start and had that year with a randomly low-ERA that Hendry covets.

    I'm off to NY for Thanksgiving. My family there are big Met fans, and if we sign Matsui I can expect them to be sympathetic to my rantings.

    Lou seemed pretty disappointed in DeRosa not being able to play SS last season. With Izturis and Cedeno struggling at midseason and Theriot still viewed as a utility guy, DeRosa could easily have landed the SS job if he could play there adequately. I don't think the Cubs view DeRosa as a SS. Then Levine has gotta be wrong and Matsui is viewed as an SS. Otherwise, I can't even see the logic behind this move. I know it's Hendry, but come on. Isn't that becoming a scary concept by itself? It is so easy to criticize, and Hendry doesn't (isn't able to) do everything that is rumored, but isn't it clear to most of us that he has no clue as to why teams win? If he signs Matsui to play 2nd without some perfectly corresponding move...I'll be even angrier. What else do I have?
