  1. I don't have a source, but I remember reading on this board when Dusty was hired from a San Fransico fan that Chicago will be sick of "Dusty traits" within 3 years. He also said that Dusty is not suited for a town like Chicago beause he had trouble with the media from San Fran, let alone what chicago can bring to the table. I thought Dusty was a guy, but I may have been in the minority. All I knew at the time is he had just gone to the World Series and was a winner (record wise) over 7-10 years worth of managing. also, he seemed respected by the players and was a good ballplayer. Who is the next manager in Chicago?
  2. Why do you think that? Dusty never plays the kids, why would he allow his hand to be forced now? That a little unfair. The pitching staff is littered with youth and/or inexperience, and he has had no problem going with them. I have never been able to understand why Dusty can throw the pitching prospects in the fire, but ween the hitting prospects so slowly they lose rhythm. He'd allow his hand to be forced if he wants to keep his job. Baker has insisted on doing it his way, which has led to the lowest OBP out of the top 2 spots in the lineup in the majors. And now the team is sinking fast, when 8 days ago they almost took the wild card lead. In the starting rotation, there is youth, but youth is extrodinary talent. Prior and Z are very young but what team wouldn't they be in the starting 5? Williams is new, but has more experience than mitre, who got axed the mintue he had a guy with more experience. I think he views it as when he came up. You got a limited amount of shots, and if you failed you didn't make it. Unfortunatly we have a man who's going on thought processes from when he played 20 years ago compared to how the game is really played now. Yes he can change to save his job, but like I said, why would he care eitehr way, he has his money and he obviously doesn't want to be in Chicago. Has he ever seemed to like it here? I don't think so. I know that a judgement call, but he's too think skinned for this type of city. Unless he changes his tune which he never has and I wholeheartedly think he won't, he'll be done after the year if not sooner.
  3. Seriously, does anyone really know what has happend to Corey since that 2003 year he was having. What was he doing so well then that he's not doing now? is it really all mental? To me, if he's that fragile mentally then he's never going to succeed at the MLB level. Or is it more physical in his swing? And if thats the case shouldn't the coaches be held responsible for the hitting of this team?
  4. I wouldn't want to watch the Royals. It would just remind me of how bad the Cubs are doing right now. But I agree. I think it's time for Maddux to call it after the end of 2005 season. If Maddux retires, do we owe him any money?
  5. Why do you think that? Dusty never plays the kids, why would he allow his hand to be forced now? I don't even know if he cares at this point, if he gets fired so be it, he doesn't like Chicago and he has his money. Why back down now after he has proven he won't be told what to do in San Fran or Chicago?
  6. Miles...Shmiles I read Phil Rodgers...only because of gems like this: "Ryan Dempster has been a blessing as the closer, but the setup crew has been in shambles all season. The worst injury of the year, worse than Nomar Garciaparra, Kerry Wood or Mike Prior, was Chad Fox's blown elbow in April." Long Live Bruce Miles
  7. mmmmm.....pepper
  8. I think you move Hairston before you move Walker. Walker can hit, something no one on this team can do. He seems like a leader too. To think that EPatt and especially Fontenot will pan out with the minor league success rate of the cubs, let alone replace one of the few decent batters on this team suprises me.
  9. The Score has degenerated badly since I first listened to them: Buffone and Van Lier in the mornings (bad, I'll give u that) North and Jiggetts Danny Mac and Terry Mike Murphy (god awful) Tommy Williams (awesome) Les Grobstein (he should post here) The lineup as a whole was strong even if there was a bad show for the morning drive.... You don't like Mike Murphy? I like Murphy, although his sound effects and behind the talking music gets annoying sometimes.
  10. Cendeno has 6 ab's in a streach perez has 76 and is hitting .171...awesome
  11. This is true, but I don't care about them! I don't personally get too mad about guys like Dontrelle since he was a minor league guy and flordia did their homework and we got the guys we needed at the time for a run. However I know Clement and Maddux were on the same team, but I would have given the Maddux money to Clement and you'd still have the same team with a young guy like Mitre, Hill, Williams, someone else in the 5th slot. My comment was in reference to the title of your post and this comment you made This really irks me...why does it seem everyone that moves on does so well If you're basically just unhappy about Clement leaving and doing well, then your thread title is misleading. It was an attempt at humor, sorry it didn't hit the mark.
  12. Not to mention having JVB in the minors as a backup option if Dempster walks with a big offer.
  13. Hey, that's not a bad idea. Maybe that would not only get the cubbies going, but get recenlty doom-and-gloom attitude outta the way. I'm usually a very positive person. . . this season is dang near about to ruin me. I hear ya man. I'm usually one of the happiest guys you'll meet, but I've noticed that when I watch Cubs games this year, it's not even fun. I'm usually complaining about something or pissed about a stupid Dusty move. And it's carried over to my non-Cubs life too. There's obviously one solution to this problem... fire Dusty. I wouldn't lie and say I'm a posititve person when it comes to the cubs, but normally it doesn't stop me from watching them. However I got married 3 weeks ago and haven't watched a game since. I lost top while out of the country on my honeymoon and the day I got back I checked the standings and saw the 5 game losing streak and I told myself I just don't care this year. I felt ashamed of the team last year as well, yet I was so proud of them in 2003....I guess its all about winning. I feel like its more though than that, more of an attitude. does anyone reemember during the Atlanta series right before the game they showed Grudz and Sosa banging fists in the concourse under the seats? It gave me chills, and it made be feel great about the cubs. I want to feel good about this team again.

  15. And dubois won't start any of the games. Whats the over under on at bats for Dubois for the double header? 3? *HAPPY THOUGHT* I did like the double header in 2003 when the cubs clinched though!!! 2 AB's for DuBois. 1 AB for Cedeno. Heck I'm not even sure if Cedeno's still on the roster. 9 AB's for Neifi. Ugh, you know this isn't even funny anymore.
  16. I would say, if you think keeping Dusty Baker is the answer, you're twice as delusional. Replacing Dusty is one of many answers. He's the wrong manager for the wrong team. I said it before he was hired and I haven't seen anything resembling evidence to the contrary. Just for the sake of argument, what is the type of team that Baker should coach? Is there a way to agument this team to fit him?

  18. With what Zambrano and Prior are going to earn, and what Wood already steals from the cubs every year, I guess you couldn't pay clement as well and not have a yankee-esque budget. I can understand that point. I still think that giving Clement a contract at 8/million per for 2 years and never signing Maddux could have been done though. Maybe he takes the money, maybe not though if he really wanted to stay. Water under the bridge I know, but I just read that article and couldn't help but feel bothered by it.
  19. Very good point with the DH rule, he doesn't have to bat therefore helping his asthma...didn' think of that. And the run support doesn't hurt. I definitly wasn't saying Clement didn't succeed in Chicago, I loved him as a cubs pitcher and I think most fans did as well. I remember his swing though, I don't know how many times he had to "run the bases". ;)
  20. Um, possilby because we already had Maddux under contract? Thanks for you sarcastic remark, I really appeciate your input. If you would take the time to address the question which is why not pay Clement when they chose to pay Maddux.
  21. From ESPN.com: Clement has one more victory in 18 starts for Boston than he did in 30 for the Chicago Cubs last season. He signed a $25 million, three-year free agent contract with the Red Sox. This really irks me...why does it seem everyone that moves on does so well, but we sign a name and they get hurt, play down to below career averages? I always liked Clement, can someone explain to me again why we didn't pay him instead of Maddux...I haven't wrapped my mind around that one.
  22. wow I thought everything HAD to be captioned...that sucks for him. Hopefully they'll do it for people like your brother. I've always wanted to learn sign language, it intrigues me.
  23. Yeah but at least their afternoon show is local which I like to listen too...even though they are egotistical jerks...it is local!
  24. If thats not looking through cubbie fans eyes, I don't know what is! Awesome. I'll take Grady Little, he's around Wrigley isn't he?
