This guy is kind of strange. I wonder why he scrapped the changeup after 2022, where it scored 106 on stuff+, a career high. 2023 was still an excellent year, despite all of his stuff+ marks noticeably declining, particularly the split. Then in 2024 he started throwing a sinker and the next year that pitch became elite, only for him to stop throwing it.
I am confident the Cubs will want that sinker back and probably want a lot of changeups too. This is a dude with a diverse mix who can't seem to settle on a consistent repertoire - not unusual, but the fashion in which he tends to move away from highly graded pitches is pretty odd.
