  1. There's always several interesting players that get cut after the draft. Pace is sitting pretty. I think he has the flexibility to get practically anyone and right now he can just bide his time. All told I think he got really good value so far in FA and I'm stoked for the draft. Hooker would have a pretty nice set of players surrounding him.
  2. Happ and Eloy blasts give the Cubs the lead
  3. He needs to throw strikes and go as deep as he can into games (and stay healthy...) and I'm sure they'll move him along at that pace. If he struggles with command it could be a bit more gradual.
  4. Saw God-mode Jake hold the Dodgers hitless a few hours after we all discussed the very real possibility he would twirl a no-hitter as we drove to the stadium. They barely got the ball out of the infield all night. Struck out the side to cap it off. Plus we got on TV in the 9th after Rollins called a timeout during Jake's windup and all the Cubs fans booed. And Bryant laced a shot early on for all the run support needed. Perfect game with all the drama and tension so palpable throughout the stadium.
  5. It's a 2 year deal and I think that's all we know. Probably 4-6 mil per?
  6. Totally good with this contract
  7. There's upside there
  8. Not signing Harmon seems like a big miss for a steal of a deal. I'm thinking Pace is going to draft Hooker.
  9. This is dumb and wrong. The idea that smart teams don't spend in free agency is dumb and wrong. You have to spend in free agency to compete. There is no such thing as a purely draft driven team. Cap space can and should be used to acquire the best players possible. Well of course no team is purely draft driven and we're obviously not now as it stands and never will be so I don't mean that... But I find paying decent players like they're the best at their position a little concerning. Gilmore was good one year and average the next. No idea what you're gonna get. And how do we possibly beat the Pats in any race like that... I thought we were a longshot as it was. Not surprised Pace couldnt land him. So we move on to Bouye, who is a good cover guy but doesn't make many plays on the ball. He really doesn't move the needle much for us IMO. But I like the second wave of FA and Pace has shown he does as well. There's still plenty of time to upgrade the team without handing out huge contracts to questionable players.
  10. I don't want to blow our load, but I want us to fill holes. In case you missed it we were a 3-13 team last year and I don't know how signing Glennon, losing an all pro receiver and not getting a top FA at a position of glaring weakness is a good thing. An All-Pro receiver 2 years ago that has done little since to earn big bucks and in a contract year got suspended and really seemed indifferent quite a bit at times. He did himself well, securing a 1-year deal... I was a huge Alshon fan but the last couple years he got ruffled by the teardown (even though most of the cuts were prudent moves) and seemed to slowly (but publicly) detach himself. I was actually surprised we were one of his final choices. Good luck to him though. One of the best receivers we've ever had but that's not saying a whole lot. I'm hopeful over what some NFL guys have said about Glennon. The arm is real, the feet get happy, but he commands the pocket when it's clean, and he's a cheap player who probably hasn't peaked yet. We can draft a QB and groom him properly now. We obviously didn't want to do that with a re-tread or we would've saved some money and signed Hoyer. Our line and run game should complement him very well. Missing on the DBs is tough but it's still early in the process and those players are pretty volatile honestly. However so far I'll agree that it's been disappointing. I really, really wanted Jefferson, and pretty much any of the top 10 CBs because we suck there so much. But there's still a lot of players out there.
  11. I'm surprised at how many of you guys want us to blow our load in FA, which is generally an absolutely terrible plan. And we suck so bad that we have to overpay the hell out of every player we puruse. I'm really not gonna hang Pace for not paying 90 mil to Stephon horsefeathering Gilmore, or a decent cover guy who doesn't take the ball away much in Bouye. The Glennon deal is really good for the place our team is in. It's basically a 1-2 year deal for a guy who actual NFL people say is a viable QB with upside remaining. And the fact that he's thrown 10 passes in 2 years is not a negative to me either as it also means he has a clean bill of health and hasn't taken a pounding the last couple years. The Bears have a better line than he's played with and a better run game. That should certainly improve his chances of performing at a high level. And oh what a happy day having Cutler out of Chicago.
  12. Wtf @ their way of writing innings 68 0/100. Really horsefeathering weird. But exciting stuff nonetheless.
  13. Agreed with the envious sentiment but I did see Jake toss a no hitter at Dodger Stadium and got a little bit of screen time during the 9th.
  14. Hoyer says "the reins are off" re Cease
  15. If we arent sold on a QB at 3 a trade down would be pretty apealing for the right price. I would LOVE to trade down. I just don't see a team trading up to 3. What are they moving up FOR? Thomas or Hooker could be players that make teams wanna leapfrog, I think. What are your guys thoughts on Thomas for us? Too much of a square peg in a round hole (some people doubt 3-4 viability) or do you think he could excel in our system?
  16. Keep in mind Hooker will not be able to workout before the draft, will miss all of rookie and minicamps, and will likely start camp on the PUP. He's also only a 1-year starter. To post the numbers he did with such little experience and make the incredible Center Field plays he does, all the more impressive. His instincts in the pass game are insane. Granted he was terrible a lot of the times in run defense but I chalk most of that up to inexperience and hope that our coaches could polish him up into All-Pro status. We're certainly not in a win-now window so those truths don't scare me off one bit. Elite single high Safeties are just so rare.
  17. I doubt that. 4/60/30 is probably in the range of what he gets and he'll be cuttable after year 2, IMO.
  18. I feel like we have a pretty damn good front 7 and if by some miracle we landed Garrett we would have one of the best units in the league. If we go with a QB we are looking at a couple years before we are up to speed but Trubisky looks so crisp; tantalizing talent. I'm good if we take him at 3 but he's not my first choice. If we take one of the Safeties - I'm ALL IN on Hooker - elite measurables AND his hands are huge and he can really bring down a pass - takeaway machine, which we probably need more than anything on the defense. I keep dreaming about a tandem of Jefferson and Hooker. Amos is steady Eddie but doesn't flash enough unique talent to me to get too excited. I love Adams as well but I really want Hooker. Elite single-high guys are just so rare.
  19. Couldn't let this be the Tommy La Stella game
  20. Anyone waving Alshon goodbye for good, was frankly just really wrong. Except it's still completely possible
  21. Candelario is going to be a good MLB hitter
  22. Really want Hooker at the 3 and to sign Jefferson. That sets our Safeties for 5 years easy.
  23. Taylor Davis and Pierce are joining in the head-shaving. Thank god, those horrible mops need to go. They should do a league wide shave the dirty hippies day.
  24. this has always been the case with shows using celebrities/stars. they've used all kinds of olympians, football players and other athletes, but it's vaguely interesting that this is the first mlb player to participate. It takes place during the summer I assume so obviously current players can't participate, but there are lots of former players and I would have thought some 90's era yankees had participated or some former dodger. what percentage of the US population knows who Chris Kattan is without the benefit of Google? Soooooooo wish I didn't. Every character that guy did was absolutely awful.
