  1. Bad news for Willson https://www.totalprosports.com/2019/07/10/report-mlb-to-experiment-with-insane-idea-of-stealing-first-base-in-atlantic-league/
  2. 4 more scoreless for Kohl with a 4:2 I know it's early AF but Eugene's lineup has 5 guys over 1.0 OPS lol
  3. Darvish pitches by xwoba 2019 Cutter: 252 Slider 291 (lowest sample of batted ball events) Sinker 352 4 seam 453 (highest BBE) Other 2 Pitches dont even merit mentioning based on samples Can he just be a cutter/sinker/slider guy? Maybe throw the curve and eephus just enough to keep them guessing. He was diagnosed as tipping his 4 seam in the WS. The whole league knows when it's coming, IMO. You don't allow a 700 SLG on a 95 average FB unless you are, IMO. Thoughts on him scrapping the 4 seam?
  4. For a point of comparison, 2012 was the first draft with bonus pools. Here's the breakdown of players who reached 2+ career bWAR: 1st round: 14 players (1 Cub, Almora) Supplemental round (also 30 picks): 10 players (no Cubs, Johnson and Blackburn picked) All other rounds combined: 23 players (1 Cub, Bote) Total: 47 players, 2 Cubs Based on the success rate of the whole group and a bump for the Cubs drafting high in the first round, you'd expect the Cubs to have had about 2 such players, and that's what they got. Point taken. I've never seen it broken down like that. I guess my expectations are out of whack.
  5. They have had a basically unprecedented hit rate(which absolutely includes Schwarber, Happ, and Almora) with first round picks, if you're expecting better you're expecting fantasy. Draft picks fail, as a rule. Even those at the very top of the draft. To draft 4 consecutive major leaguers who have had some level of sustained success there is incredible. Those 4 drafts also turned out Bote, Godley, and Cease. Especially in a world with draft pools, you aren't going to see aggregate results any better, it's a matter now of seeing if their last few drafts will pan out to lower ceiling/more depth once they lost a bunch of pool money/1st round position in 2016+. And even though they were IFAs, Eloy and Gleyber are only further a testament to their ability to identify and develop position players. You'd think the people complaining here didn't watch the Cubs go like 25 years without producing a decent position player while also frequently being bad and drafting high. Their biggest success story in that span was when CPatt was kinda good for 2 years. Yeah, a lot of that was just incompetence by previous FOs, but it also kinda attests to how you can't really do what this FO did in that 4 year span by accident. I'm not really complaining. I'm really not. I was just commenting. I just feel like it is truth. So in 4 years beyond their top 10 picks which I already credited them for (although I omitted Almora), they got Bote and... Zagunis? So about 180 picks, or something, beyond those 4,, and they maybe grabbed a couple bench players, a viable SP, and a reliever or 2. Is that really par for the course?
  6. Hated the Hannemann pick because of how old he was, his cost, and his lack of experience (due to missionary work or whatever it was). No way you spend a mil on a guy like that, IMO. Same here. I remember being floored when I saw that they gave Hannemann a 7 figure overslot deal. To be fair though, none of the guys I wanted at that pick have amounted to anything either. We talk a lot about their pitchers picks in the first few years being brutal but aside from the pre-packaged KB and the wart-filled Schwarber and Happ top 10 picks, their offensive picks were mostly really bad as well.

  8. Ravech, shut up. The pitcher is exhausted and is killing Vlad.
  9. Awful pitching but Vlad should take some of those and not expend all of his energy. Reminds me of KB's dad. He was terrible.
  10. Vlad has enough dough and hype. I'm kind of pulling for Alonso.
  11. Yesterday was Nico's 2nd pro game with multiple Ks
  12. I would be willing to wager that his already mediocre exit velocity and hard contact take a big hit in those situations. He has a lot of wet farts. And he swings through a lot of meatballs. Love to be proven wrong.
  13. I dont understand giving a horsefeathers about the Brewers right now when the whole division is a series sweep away from first place. Should we really cheer for the Pirates when they could catch up so easily. I just stopped paying attention to the standings altogether. The Cubs just need to win games consistently. That's all I give a horsefeathers about. Unfortunately they are not being consistently disciplined at the plate right now and they deserve to lose a lot with their awful approach.
  14. Weren't Schwarber's numbers at that point better than them both?
  15. Who are you talking about here? caratini (as opposed to contreras) Yeah I was talking about Caratini. I've just really soured on Contreras behind the dish. I don't see much progress but his bat will certainly play anywhere.
  16. That's really all that matters. Just need Theo to force Joe to play his best 8 every game. That's, IMO, where the sense of urgency is lacking. We can't be putting Russell, Almora, Descalso in the same lineup, ever. We're trying to win a dogged division, Joe. horsefeathers hurt feelings. Play your best guys. I want them to trade Schwarber and Almora+ for an everyday CF, and use Bryant and Heyward in the corners so that Bote can get more consistent playing time. Heyward needs to play RF exclusively. Hes still amazing there. If we would ever cut Russell loose and let Bote have 2B that would be great as well. That way Willy can have LF and Vic can man C. I know most of you guys think he's a shitty hitter but his plate discipline and batted ball numbers are trending in the direction that suggests otherwise. And hes just a more natural defender, only without the arm... but how much does that really help when the rest of your defense is so mediocre.
  17. Awesome news. Tyson has had a tremendous season and earned that promotion.
