  1. Dex always just seemed like a good guy and a good piece to have on the team. I was kinda ambivalent before sprint training last year as to whether having him mattered much. As the year as gone on, he has slowly become one of my favorite Cubs and by default one of my favorite ball players altogether. Not sure if we will bring him back, but if it can be done on something short term, I hope we do.
  2. They should take the link back down. That is such a horrible FA class. I don't know how many teams are looking for Closers, but I imagine Chapman and Jansen can basically name their price and someone will pay. Not a lot of other good options. Position player wise its very, very weak.
  3. It's not really backloaded. The first 3-4 years are arbitration years, so they're paying him slightly more each season than he'd probably get going through the arbitration process and then paying him below market value when the FA portion of the contract kicks in. I realized the arbitration thing after I posted. Probably should have looked at that. I posted because somebody mentioned trading for him and couldn't remember what he was making. They still have a few more years of old man Pujols to go along with him.
  4. I never realized how backloaded Trout's deal is. I may not be reading it correctly but it looks like 19 million this coming year, followed by 33.25,33.25 and 33.25. I assume the Angels had a lot of money coming off the books starting next year. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels-of-anaheim/mike-trout-8553/cash-earnings/ (is it ok to paste links?)
  5. nevermind. :( How long has it been since his surgery? (or did he have one?) Edit : Looks like Oct 2015
  6. I actually like it... but only because they obviously invested some resources into developing it just to have this team shove it back down their throats. it shows a little bit of creativity.. but other then that I probably wouldn't have paid too much attention to it.
  7. While this makes a lot of sense from an offensive perspective, the Def would be average at best correct? Obviously late inning replacements with def subs would be used a lot but in bigger parks that OF worries me a little bit. (but we could base enough to offset it, I guess) Well what are your choices? They're gonna play Schwarber. And while Baez may not play every single day at 2B, you've gotta think he'll be there most of the time. RF is really the only other spot for Zobrist at that point. Obviously Joe will do all the moving around that Joe does...but I think that arrangement is about as fait de complete as it can be. And that doesn't even account for Soler. I'm in no way disagreeing that this would be the look of our normal lineup with Joe mixing and matching guys to get advantages where necessary. I actually don't mind schwarber or zo in the outfield but both being there and heyward playing out of position (to a degree) gives me pause. I would assume those days that Joe hopes we bash enough that defensive replacements come in around the 8th and the big guys dont miss ABs. Soler is a whole other issue. I would hope for a trade for a more useful piece but I haven't thought enough about what that would be.

  9. The meetings this work are usually less active correct? more of a get things started and set the tables kind of deal?
  10. 2 mornings later and I still don't think it has sunk in totally yet. I watched so many video clips and replays of the game and interviews and .. just everything. The lack of sleep is finally starting to catch up. Its crazy seeing all the cubby blue being worn everywhere I go. The amusement park near us has the Ferris wheel lit up to form a cubs C. This is definitely turning out to be more then I ever could have even thought to be. What a great team, great players, great season and so many great fans. I love this team. Go Cubs (oh and 108 pages)
  11. Game 7. Ill be watching and hoping for that one big hit to make me less nervous! Go Cubs!
  12. It also seems to me that all of their pitchers have been very good at hitting that lower half/outside corner of the zone with fastballs and then throwing breaking pitches off of that. its definitely gotten in the heads of the right handers that they have to protect out there and they end up swinging wildly. If that outside low corner isn't being given/hit so consistently, they might not be so apt to swing at the breaking stuff out there. Cleveland's pitchers have been able to live on the corners all series long.
  13. Cubs will be playing baseball in November. Sounds so weird to say but I love it. And the forecast looks pretty decent for both days if I read it right earlier.
  14. Anybody know what face value was for tickets for Fridays game?
  15. I think having Schwarber's bat on the bench for this game helps by keeping Miller out of the game early. Knowing that Kyle is over there waiting may make Francona think twice about going to Miller right away. (but I could be wrong to, its been know to happen)
  16. Would you be surprised if Joe went with the following? Fowler CF KB 3B Rizzo 1B Zobrist 2B (Baez is swinging at everything again) Coghlan LF Montero C Russell SS Heyward RF Kyle P I wouldn't, but I'm not as knowledgeable as many of the folks around here. I would think that Heyward should be in the lineup because his glove and speed might be needed with the wind blowing out to right. And the first thing I thought when I saw the lineup with Javy in 2nd was, "I wonder how many ground balls bad hitting Javy hits?" I also like the idea of Miggy catching tonight. And he's perfectly capable of grabbing hold of a pitch and sending it out, so who knows. I think we probably see the later NLDS lineup Fowler CF KB 3B Rizzo 1B Zobrist LF Baez 2B Contreras C Russell SS Heyward RF Hendricks P Baez stays at 2b because you want to maximize your chances that any ball on the ground is an out. Fowler, heyward, zobrist should be a good enough OF . If the wind is blowing out as hard as it seems like it might, you just play deep and let everything blow to you. Anything over your head is probably a HR.
  17. Never been a fan of Mr. Buck and I'm not gonna start liking him now, but that is definitely a pretty cool article. Its good to know that the importance of the moment is not lost on those calling the game.
  18. Had to come post in the game 3 thread. I was hoping to get to Chicago but it looks like today and tomorrow are out. Still holding out hope for a clinching game on Sunday. Can not wait until 7. Go Cubs!
  19. That is an awesome story. Definitely almost brought tears to my eyes here at work..
  20. Security concerns would be part of it. Doubt they want thousands of people standing in the streets outside the ballpark loitering in one spot. The games at Wrigley are on the weekend, so a lot of folks are going to be at the bars drinking (which presumably have expanded some since 2003). Wrigley also has a couple thousand more seats/thousand. Can't drink in the street. I think there's also probably a few less diehard national fans wanting to travel in just to stand near the park since there's no WGN America games anymore (and that network has greatly declined in popularity since the 90s). The construction has be limiting people outside the ballpark too. There just isn't much open space for people to congregate. This is good to know. I was planning on trying to make the trip to Chicago next weekend and just hang around wrigleyville during the games.
  21. The day off is good so guys can get some rest but I hate having to wait to see them beat up on Kershaw and advance
  22. Jake seems to like pitching on the west coast. I believe the last time he pitched in dodger stadium, he walked away with a no hitter. We could use something like that again.
  23. That's a good read. A lot of rehashing of other stories but I like the story about Theo sitting in on Wells card game. Just another side to the guy.
