I really don’t care if Ayer’s is found money . I am not trading him with the season he is having for a reliever , and I really like Luke Weaver . There will be plenty of relievers that can do the job available. Sure Ayer’s could start sucking next year , but he could also continue to be good . You never know In a deal for a SP with control ? Sure sign me up You get too worked up about what posters say of Jed. It’s an internet board cal . enjoy it

Conforto has been a nice little find . 121 wrc . If the Cubs let Happ go and go with a 1 year guy . He has put himself in the conversation as the strong part of a platoon -
I think he will hit better than Shaw againts righties . My thing with Shaw is his ability to hit RHP . If he can’t up his production againts them , it will be difficult for him to be an everyday player . I just like Pedro’s swing better . His at bats look more competitive againts righties IMO than Shaw . It has nothing to do with Oedro getting a couple of soft hits tonight . And to be clear because I don’t want him traded , doesn’t mean I wouldn’t trade him for a SP with control . I understand that Pedro really doesn’t have a long term spot other than utility with this team I have no concerns trading Ayers , but not for Luke Weaver

For me absolutely . I have even thought about Springer to DH ( if he is a pending FA ) not sure . I dont think they would do it however for money reasons

Detmers goes tonight . Will be keeping an eye on that one . Personally I am warming to the idea of getting 2 SP and just 1 reliever. Guard against injury and Shota completely forgetting how to pitch . Would love to get Detmers and one of Gausman / Bieber

wrist injuries for hitters are really tricky . Even if he comes back , power could be affected

I get what you are saying , but to me the difference in samples in the playoffs makes keeping the ball out of play that much more important . We are talking 3 / / 5 and 7 game series . Not a lot of margin due error. I know the Cubs defense is elite , but even they make mistakes and when the ball is put a lot in play bad stuff can happen , it’s just the way it is . Alcantara is not bad . His fíp and xFIP are just a touch over 4. His xera is 3.75 however . He is okay , but I feel he is a bit overrated in general . I take him but not really sure what I would give up With that said , after looking closer at Detmers o am not sure I give up Rojas for him . There seems to be some sort of risk with every pitcher except Skubal

Alcántara simply for me doesn’t strike people out the way I like . In the playoffs it’s really important to keep the ball out of play as much as possible to avoid babip problems . Alcantara doesn’t do that for me . And really outside of 21-22 the peripherals are kind of meh . I don’t understand why he doesn’t strike people out with his velo

Yeah , it would be nice to have a power bat to PH him for againts lefties in key spots ( yesterday for example ) . Giving him these type of at bats can absolutely be the difference in the playoffs

One thing to remember as the deadline gets near . The Cubs sit right now 14 million under the 2nd tier of the LT . They aren’t going over that . They can get a team to eat money if needed , but will cost more in prospects

I think I probably do this with their current need and all the SP they will lose after the season. Trading Rojas would hurt , but they need an arm badly

FWIW , Passan said the Cubs will get at least 1 SP and that everybody outside of Hartshom is in play .

Tomorrow looks rough as well . Peterson has started twice againts St Louis this season and gotten shelled both times . Also it seems like several cardinals save their best for the Cubs

Sometimes teams try to cover and do the phantom il thing to keep good clubhouse guys like Taillon around , but tougher to do these days . MLB is on top of those things now

I sort of get letting Taillon take the punishment here . No off days for a while and important 4 gamers with St Louis next , and the series clinched already
