They are not spending on Ohtani . Fangraphs has them at 158 million with the LT not counting the 6 arbi elegible guys . The 1st tier of the luxury tax will be 237 next year but I would imagine they separate 5-10 for in season moves . Not as much money available compared to what we thought they would have when the 23 season started. They will need to make several trades IMO. Thats assuming Rickets will allow them to go near the LT which is far from a guarantee. Not too long ago Rosenthal said next years budget would be determined by how they finish the year . For me the Cubs are 1 game out , I am counting the suspended game as a Marlins win . I don’t think it’s impossible that the Pirates take 2 of 3 this weekend but the Cubs aren’t sweeping the Brewers . They can’t beat anybody right now . Looking at payrolls the Cubs will have less than 70 million to work with next offseason due to dead money , options that will get pick by players , buyouts and arbitration elegible players . Considering all their needs they will need to make several trades IMO to be a playoff team next year . Needs 1 impact SP 2 impact bats 3,relievers

You don’t think this particular game is on him ? How about throwing a guy that has been completely worthless for more than a month to protect a lead in the 9th? Then Carrol hits a grounder that they had no chance to turn 2 . Instead of taking the out at second , Anderson came off the bag because Jr wanted to turn the DP on Carrol.
