  1. Assuming his career continues apace, his having never recorded an out on a ball hit in the air would have to put him in the conversation for best player in MLB history.
  2. I think you're correct that Bonds' being so unlikable had a lot to do with the rise of PED outrage among baseball fans. People broadly accepted the idea that a talented jerk could make himself into a phenomenal, record-stealing colossus through illicit drug use. Bonds' case cultivated a sense among baseball fans that PEDs made baseball really unfair, and I'm not sure that any analogous example exists in football, for instance. I'm not an avid football fan, though.
  3. I could be misremembering, but no one really cared about PEDs in baseball until 2 of the game's most revered numbers were eclipsed by dopers. I think that the continuing outrage over PEDs in baseball stems from the demise of that romantic notion of baseball and the nostalgia that accompanied it.
  4. There's this, from Hardball talk, Jan 21 2013:
  5. I would hope Soriano + $24MM-ish dollars would net more than a "mid-level prospect" from a $200MM franchise in the midst of getting pantsed by the Sox, Rays and O's.
  6. Gross. Now I feel dirty. Game thread fervor aside.
  7. I would still be worried about paying Felix $25MM AAV through his age 33 season given his team is unlikely to be competitive during his window of effectiveness. I could certainly be wrong, though.
  8. Wouldn't it be great to see Lake blow up and go all [expletive] Puig on us? In any case, nice to see him getting a hot start. Lake actually has a little Puig in him. Super-athletic righthanded bat with pop and zero patience whatsoever. He's fun to watch right now for sure. Unsustainable babip as well. Edit: Not that I mean to be sour about the boy.
  9. So I guess I kind of understand #want, what the hell is #rig?
  10. So I assume it is reasonable to say that Rusin is a better pitcher than Skaggs, no?
  11. Wouldn't it be great to see Lake blow up and go all [expletive] Puig on us? In any case, nice to see him getting a hot start.
  12. Am I the only on who thinks of this every time this guy pitches? Also, well done, Strop.
  13. I don't think anyone within baseball will soon forget about him stealing the MVP from Kemp. Not to mention his being a sanctimonious [expletive] about his failed test and the procedural technicality that sprung him.
  14. Am I too late to exclaim JUNIOR [expletive] LAKE!!!
  15. That makes 7 walks (and counting) in his last 11 games. Nice to see.
  16. Defense and power upside have me leaning toward Olt. "Mike Olt for sure" would be a bit of an overstatement of my position, though.
  17. I'm looking forward to Braun's tearful public apology to Dino Laurenzi.
  18. I agree. For 2 months of Garza, this is a decent/good return, depending upon who the "someone else" is.
