  1. Bryant.
  2. Clearing the way for a Rizzo trade.
  3. Definitely. Yup! Well played, TT. Editorial note: The Walter Matthau/Robert Shaw original far superior to the Denzel Washington/John Travolta remake. I'm not sure this even needed to be said, but yes.
  4. Best thread title ever? Yes it is.
  5. 7 in the 9th and the Nats walk it off. It’s just not going to break our way this year. 1) The wildcard is for losers 2) The Mets collapsing in spectacular fashion is ALWAYS a good thing.
  6. The NL central crown is the lowest hanging fruit in MLB. If they can’t get that, who cares.
  7. I'm sure this is probably being discussed somewhere else that I'm too oblivious to notice, but the Angels threw a no-hitter on their night in honor of Tyler Skaggs. Edit: Nevermind, please see 2019 Other Games Thread
  8. Would it be rash of me to suggest that Descalso be shot into the Sun?
  9. We should probably accept that this is the beginning of the rebuild.
  10. To be fair, they are only trying to argue that he is "pretty good". In that light, video of him catching a fly ball is a reasonable piece of evidence to present.
  11. A win tonight sticks the cards with a losing record.
  12. It’s all been completely predictable, but I still hate the way that Stl has treated Dex. The dumb homer side of me wants the Cubs to trade for him just to bring him home.
  13. That feeling is indeed bad. You should ignore it.
  14. The rule states that players are required not only to stand, but also to "show respect" during the anthem. The language is purposefully vague. The whole thing is such a shameful, needless capitulation to Trumpists. Would they really abandon the NFL? Where would they go? CFL? ?
  15. Between the ongoing concussion crisis (plus the League's response to it), the willful misrepresentation of player's exercising their first amendment rights as disrespect to the country, and the use of the players as props for military recruitment, it is hard to justify being a fan of the NFL. I understand that the league's primary interest is making money, but the extent to which the NFL treats its athletes like fungible assets has become impossible to support. The debate surrounding last season's player protests presented another opportunity for the NFL and its owners to listen to players concerns and treat them like humans, and they fucked it up again. Those same owners already successfully colluded against Kaepernick. Their likely to succeed against Eric Reid, as well. Players who run afoul of these rules will be effectively black balled from the NFL. That they can now point to monetary penalties as the rationale for cutting players who exercise their first amendment rights will only make this easier for owners. It's now a business decision, not a personal/political one.
  16. Brady was a hard no... not in enough commercials, not recognizable enough according to their own straw polls. Rodgers wasn’t mentioned. Kobe, Shaq, ARod, and Peyton Manning are still superstars. Yeah, that’s a bad opinion. All my coworkers who know nothing about sports know Brady. You clearly don't work with Ichiro
  17. "This Budweiser fridge really completes the decor", said no one ever.
  18. Case in point: I always assumed that baseball writers, being more objective than myself about Molina, were probably right, and that he probably was a 1st ballot guy. I never really looked into it (I don't generally get that worked up about HOF issues.) In light of the current conversation, I thought I'd dig into the numbers a little. Molina has lead all of MLB catchers in fWAR only once since his rookie season. Lucroy did it twice in that same span. So did Posey. Mauer did it four times. He's accumulated the 5th most fWAR among catchers from 2004 to the present, despite having played more games than everyone else in the top 5. I was actually a little shocked to find this out, because he's presented as a figure towering above his peers. He's had a long stretch of consistently above average play, and he's certainly a fan favorite, but I don't see the argument for him as a generational talent.
  19. For years, I had an almost paternal affection for Starlin. I would get really excited when he succeeded, and really defensive when people (often reasonably) criticized him. When he was traded, that affection transferred to Javy. Having followed his ups and downs since draft day, he’s definitely my favorite Cub. Others may be more consistent, but I find his successes far more satisfying. Here’s hoping he keeps this rolling.
  20. Bote grew up in western Colorado. Cool place to have his first MLB start. I’m excited for him. Also, Rockies starter Tyler Anderson’s nickname is Ricky F.? What am I missing?
  21. [tweet] [/tweet]Pina was in the VWL with Willson in 2014. So was Ji-Man Choi, but he’s not on the active roster.
