  1. I so want Kimbrel to come out pitching angry. I want him like, “I am the greatest horsefeathering closer of this generation and all you [expletive] who didn’t sign me are going to perish in a rain of hellfire and curveballs!”
  2. They’re second in the Majors with a .266 BABiP against. That’s an awful lot of balls in play finding their way ways into gloves.
  3. VC had a .620 career OPS entering this season and the Cubs have 4 more years of team control. I think they can wait a bit to see how real this offensive surge is before discussing an extension.
  4. After starting slow, he has his OPS over .800. His K% is about 26%, which is about 10% lower than it was at the majors last year. So maybe sort of encouraging. I’d rather Happ than Descalso on the roster at this point, but that’s not saying much.
  5. 31 year old Goldschmidt(5/130 extension starting next year) is also on pace for a career-worst season, about 3 fWAR and a sub .350 wOBA. They could very easily go the way of the Giants.
  6. Wacha is only 27 and has fallen apart. Mikolas might be a one-year wonder. They've gotten absolutely nothing in trade for various young cost-controlled position players that were once thought to be a part of their core - Grichuk, Pham, Piscotty, Diaz. And so had to trade Alcantara and Weaver for Ozuna and Goldschmidt.
  7. Well so much for that. Wacha up to 5.80. I don’t think he ever recovered from that 2015 playoff series. A big difference in his career stats before and after that series.
  8. He fell off a "non-horse" at his ranch? So he fell off a cow? Or possibly a llama?
  9. Speaking as a former divorce attorney, divorce can be utterly devastating for some people, akin to having your spouse or kids die in terms of the traumatic impact. If it’s sudden, unexpected or one-sided it absolutely upends one’s life. People get PTSD from going through rough divorces. And the antagonistic nature of it, especially the child custody aspect, absolutely brings out the worst in people. I don’t know anyone who took a month off of work for their divorce, but I certainly know people that should have taken month off or more. But they weren’t multi-millionaire baseball players. So they didn’t have the opportunity.
  10. Again, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything. My understanding is that in Tennessee you can’t have a “no fault” divorce if any matter within the divorce is contested. In Illinois, you can say the grounds for divorce are “irreconcilable differences” or “we just don’t get along any more” and then duke it out over the kids, the house, the dog and everything else. In Tennessee, you can only use the “we don’t get along” grounds if everything else is settled. Basically, even if you’re only going to fight over the family silverware you still have to allege infidelity, abuse, insanity or something else like that. The way Zobrist’s filing is worded, not actually coming out and saying “she fucked someone else,” it could just mean they’re fighting over money, property or kids and had to come up with some grounds to get the process going. Being forced to air dirty laundry in public - sometimes fabricated - is one of the reasons Illinois and other states moved away from the law requiring grounds other than “irreconcilable differences.”
  11. That’s precisely the question... good glove/bad bat middle infielders who can backup the starting shortstop are a dime a dozen... so why does it have to be Addison Russell? Why take the publicity hit when there are literally a dozen players who’d happily adequately fill that roll for $2.5MM less per year? The only thing that makes sense to me is that the Cubs: a. Think Russell is doing things right off the field in order to be a better person going forward; AND b. Think Russell can get back to being a starting- to All-Star-quality player. The Cubs are obviously in better position to know these things than I am, but the early returns in both respects don’t look great.
  12. Of course he hits home runs in consecutive games immediately after my post. Because baseball will always prove you wrong.
  13. The way that there's been absolutely zilch about this in the Chicago press - not really even speculation - makes me think that this is something that connected people know about but aren't talking about, out of deference to Zobrist. I really hope it's not something horrible, but I'm kind of afraid it is.
  14. Since the original post in this thread (25 games), Vogelbach has slashed 184/333/342
  15. Marlins are scoring 2.76 runs a game. If there's a team to help Carl get his feet back under him, it's the Marlins.
  16. All the nerds were rewatching last weeks GOT episode because apparently you couldn't see a thing to catch up for tonights episode Speaking of that, how much do the GOT people hate the Cubs having B2B Sunday night games during some of the last episodes of GOT? This is why God created DVRs.
  17. i need to introduce you to cody bellinger (or yelich for that matter - at least until he plays more road games) I think if a shortstop hits 56 and 136, it will make almost no difference what any other player does when it comes to MVP balloting.
  18. Verlander will probably get 3k next year. Scherzer and maybe Greinke could get to 3k in 2021.
  19. Amazingly, Hill's career really took off after that. Whereas I, and I'm sure many others here, would have been completely destroyed.
  20. At some point they’re going to stop trying to get curve balls past Javy.
  21. 2nd night in a row Maddon left his starter in too long. Bit him in the butt tonight.
  22. Dare I say a Rich Hardin-esque performance from Hamels tonight?
  23. On top of everything else, is there actually a good baseball reason to take at bats away from Bote and Descalso to give to Russell?
