  1. if you have everybody on ignore, what is the point of even coming here?
  2. update: people still don't like you more later
  3. Committing, say, $30 million of the 2011 payroll doesn't cause you to blink the slightest eye? not when it's for an elite pitcher. seriously, that is cheap.
  4. For 2009 only? Or should we have any thought at all to how that might effect 2010, 2011, 2012? you said it yourself. if we get peavy that pretty much guarantees our rotation is at least solid for the next several years.
  5. in recent years yes but I don't think it is this year especially when you can get a better closer in Wood for less yes, if by "better" you mean "not better" KRod is good but waaay overrated i'd agree that he is somewhat overrated, but he still is a much better option than wood right now. wood is still a hhuuuugggggggggeeeeee injury risk.
  6. Do you really think that's what's going on? That a deal for Jake Peavy wouldn't get done because the Cubs were obsessing over adding an OF (which they need)? Is Jim Hendry incapable of multitasking? I'm not trying to be an ass, but I just think it's funny when people think things like this. Think about it. Hendry has said over and over and over that a LH bat for RF is their number 1 priority. Lou has repeatedly said the same as well. Multiple reports have stated that they want to take care of that before they add Peavy. There could be some truth to that. Also, they pretty much have to dump Marquis if they want to add both a RF and Peavy. What if Jim feels like he might not be able to dump Marquis and doesn't want to get Peavy, then be stuck with Marquis and not be able to afford one of the guys he's obsessed with? I'm not saying that would happen, but if Jim feels it could, then I could see the reports of him wanting to add a RF first being true. During that time, C.C./Lowe/Burnett could sign. Then we have teams who missed out suddenly re-thinking Peavy, and perhaps Jake finds another team that he is interested in going to. I mean, that report about Jake singing "go cubs go" also said that Jake told the guy if he didn't end up with the Cubs, he'd end up with the Yankees.... meaning he'd accept a trade there. We don't think Cashman would trade his young players, but if he misses out on CC and Burnett a lot of things could change. They are desperate for SP. The bottom line is that the longer this drags out (especially if other SP start signing soon), the better chance there is of a another team emerging and peaking Towers interest and Peavy's as well. We have a chance to get him right now.
  7. If Hendry misses out on Peavy because him and Lou are obsessed with adding some crappy right fielder I'm seriously going to flip out.
  8. in recent years yes but I don't think it is this year especially when you can get a better closer in Wood for less yes, if by "better" you mean "not better"
  9. Man, you people need to read the thread This was proclaimed false a while ago by Bruce. among others. this has been explained like 432 times in this thread over the past 12 hours Yea. Nice attitude. I have extermely limited time online and I'm going to spend it reading over 64 pages so I don't have to risk offending posters who apparently are privy to every fact on this subject. You guys take yourselves waaaaay too seriously. This is a game. Lighten up. i think you think i was more annoyed at it than i really was. all i'm saying is that instead of making assumptions wouldn't it be easier to just glance back over the past few pages? you don't half to read everything, just scroll through each page until you see links. that's what i do. it takes like 2 seconds to find the articles where actual info is posted
  10. well if you combine the 2 peavy threads we're over halfway there.

  12. Maddux is my favorite player of all time. But Pedro is the best pitcher in the last 20 years. Certainly when he was on the mound. Greg might have him beat in total value because of durability, I guess. Pedro has a strong argument for best pitcher ever for when he was on the mound, though. an era at 2 for 1,000 innings? Pedro is not that good. it has been written, researched, and argued (and well) that you could call pedro in his prime the most dominant pitcher ever. that doesn't mean his whole career, that just means during his peak years. his 2000 season was insane
  13. well we don't know what the package is so it's impossible to judge.
  14. A bunch of places are reporting that the Mets are about to lock up K-Rod for something around 3/37. That would be a good deal for the Mets considering what other closers have gotten in recent years.
  15. Somebody on another board was saying that Dave Kaplan said on his show that a "very good source" told him that Dunn and his agent have been "begging" the Cubs to take a look at him and that he really wants to play for the Cubs. Keep in mind this is Kaplan we're talking about.

  17. all that matters right now is that towers himself said there was a deal on the table. what some writers talk about means nothing, unless you think towers was lying...which makes no sense.
  18. What rollercoaster? We're at the same place we were 3 hours ago when everyone was excited
  19. Do you think Hendry is the one waiting to pull the trigger? Well thats pretty much exactly what Towers said
  20. Argh! Again, that was posted earlier. It was BS then also. Even Bruce came to NSBB and posted about it.
  21. ??? Did you even read it? That's really old, and it says nothing negative aout the Cubs chances of getting Peavy.

  23. He's not? to me "very good" means you're in the upper echelon of players. if an .800 OPS 2B is "very good", then what does that make a .725 OPS 2B? good?
