  1. Huh? Fukudome is the starting center fielder against RHP, meaning he'll be starting the majority of the games. If you put Fukudome in for bradley when he is out, who starts CF against RHP? Gathright? It's the same thing.... a big downgrade. Milton Bradley is a switch hitter. He's not going to be platooned. Come on. What are you talking about? Where did I say anything about him being platooned? Fukudome is being platooned in center, meaning he'll the majority of the starts there. I said when Bradley is out with injuries, not out from being platooned. Fukudome is not backinganybody up in the lineup. He's already in the lineup. If you're talking about Fukudome replacing Bradley in RF when he's out with injuries, then who replaces Fukudome in center against RHP? Johnson against RHP? Gathright? That's my point..... anybody who is replacing Bradley in the lineup when he's hurt is a big downgrade from DeRosa/Fontenot.
  2. Hudson can't play right field when Bradley is hurt Really I don't see the point of signing Hudson and losing a first round pick. Is he really better than Fontenot? That's what Miles is for. Not ideal but we improve defensively at 2B and still have someone who can backup LF and RF. Also, Fukudome is an option to backup RF. The Cubs will likely blow their first round pick anyways. I'm talking about somebody who can oplay right field and actually hit. Miles is garbage and a significant downgrade from DeRosa. Plus he's only played one game in RF in his entire major league career....and only 5 in LF. So we'd had awful offense and awful defense. Really, I think this is a false report. I see no reason to sign Hudson. I don't see him as an upgrade to Fontenot and it's not worth giving up a first round pick so he can play againt lefties over Miles. I doubt Miles is our go to option for LF/RF when/if we have a injury. Johnson, Kosuke, Gathright and Hoffpauir will all get time out there when/if Soriano or Bradley get hurt. Miles will only see time in the OF if we have multiple injuries at the same time or a even less likely scenario where he is hot and Lou needs to find a spot to play him. I never said Miles would be the option. I basicaly said the opposite when I said that Miles didn't replace DeRosa's versatiliuty.

  4. DeRosa is gone. We'd be replacing Fontenot with Hudson, and I don't see how that's a big enough upgrade to warrant losing a first round pick. Plus, like I said, Hudson couldn't replace DeRosa anyways. With Bradley on your team DeRosa's biggest value becomes the ability to fill in for him when he's hurt....and allow Fontenot to essentially replace Bradley in the lineup. Hudson doesn't do that. Really I think people are just excited by the name. I don't see what Hudson really does for this team at this point.
  5. I don't know if Howard is going to be a .280 hitter from here on out though. All his numberes, especially his average, have been declining pretty significantly over the last season. I wouldn't be surprsied if he ends up as an Adam Dunn type with a low average like last year.

  7. Again, how did Huet look bad? He had no chance whatsoever at any of those 3 gols he gave up. He did have a chance... but he had no one in front of him... it wasn't ALL Huet's fault, but he definitely didn't help matters. I really don't see how he had any chance at any of those 3 goals

  10. How is it for the best? So we can pick Chase Budinger next June? Yay? at least we have a shot at getting somebody good. it worked out pretty well last year. what is the upside of winning at this point? what chance is there of something good coming out of it? sneaking in the playoffs and getting embarrassed by boston/cleveland/orlando? sounds fun. Well I wouldn't count on making a huge move in the lottery. Last year was an aberration, obviously. I'd rather make it as a low seed and get waxed by a powerhouse then draft at the bottom of the lottery. At least Rose would get a taste of playoff basketball. I guess that's where we differ. I'm interested in winning a championship or at least going deep into the playoffs and having something to get excited for. That team is going to offer neither or those things this year. I mean, how fun were the playoffs for the Cubs the last 2 years? I'm not saying they'd luck out into a top pick.... they wouldn't have to. Any lottery pick would bring us closer to winning a championship than a meaningless playoff appearance. You make it seem like the Bulls don't get a draft pick if they make the playoffs. If they squeeze in as a low seed the pick will only be marginally higher than what they would get as a playoff team. I'm not talking about a speicific threshold that I want them to avoid. Making the playoffs was just an example of the best case scenario for this season and the most we could realistically hope. Obviously if it was between he 8 seed and 9 seed I'd choose the 8 seed. I'm saying I'd rather tank at this point than play like .500. If we're gonna suck, let's at least maximize what we get for sucking.
  11. How is a goalie not a "right player for the team"? A good goalie is the right player for every team. A good goalie is a good goalie. I don't see how team is a factor... unless yo're talking about his character btw those sarcastic huet comments weren't made towards you. they were at Q for pulling him for no reason after the 1st
  12. damn,,, great chance to cut it to 2 right there
  13. gotta wonder if we're still in this game if huet is never pulled.
  14. did you watch the first period? there was absolutely nothing he could do about any of those 3 goals. he should have never been pulled. i don't really see the incon sistent stuff either. goals against in his last 13 starts before tonight's game 1 4 2 1 1 3 0 6 1 1 1 0 1 he just got off to a horrible start with the hawks after he signed so that's what people remember.... that and the winter classic game. it's not really fair. he's having a very nice year
  15. I thought Khabibulin was fine the last three years. It was the defense that was a problem. It's not hindsight. I've disliked Huet's signing from day one. The defense has been bad, but that doesn't excuse Khabibulin. Come on, he's been garbage 2 out of the 3 years and just "pretty bad" in the other one. Bottom line is if Khabilbulin performed like he had in the last 3 seasons, we'd have needed a goalie 10x worse than a second line center. We have enough weapons offensively. The most important thing in the playoffs is goaltending.

  17. I love how Sabean gives out huge, ridiculous, contracts to mediocre and crappy players all the time when they have no chance of competing....but as soon as he has the oppourtunity to completely change the division and arguably make his team the favorite, he's suddenly stingy and talking about how a deal has to "make sense". We can give 176 million to Rowand and Zito though. That "makes sense."
  18. he only benches the guys that don't deserve it

  20. fyp ? huet is having a good year He won't help as much in the playoffs as the second-line center we could have bought with that money. hindsight is 20/20 khabibulin was coming off 3 straight crappy years. they thought they needed a goalie and they went out and got a good one. what if they don't sign huet and then khabi plays like he hadthe previous 3 years?
  21. fyp ? huet is having a good year
  22. i still don't understand why huet was pulled
  23. oh well, it's for the best
