While they've had a good offseason, they still have question marks in the bottom of their rotation who doesn't? -
who cares who is better now? At this point last year the Pens were struggling to make it to the 8th spot and the Ducks were not even in playoff contention. Yet the Pens won the Stanley Cup and the Ducks were the 2nd best team in the WC last year in the playoffs. Hawks fans should be happy about their success so far this year, but discounting teams at this point of the season is dangerous. who is discounting teams? during the regular season, you talk about who is the best. right now i don't think there's any way you can say the pens are as good as the hawks.

Hawks: +50 Devils: +21 Pens: +19 Devils are pre-Kovalchuk and the Pens are starting to become notorious for coming on strong at the end of the season and certainly have the credentials to say they are elite. Not saying the goal differentials aren't telling, just giving plausible excuses why those teams are at an equal level despite a huge gap in goal differential. that's predicting that they might end up better. i'm talking aobut who is better right now, and it's the hawks. and the pens "credentials" don't mean anything when talking about what team is better. i dont think the pens are even a top 5 team, actually. i'd put the sharks, caps, hawks, devils, and canucks ahead of them, and you could make an argument for buffalo and LA being ahead of them also

But with the rumors of him leaving the NHL for the KHL in the offseason (I doubt it, but who knows) to give up two of your best prospects plus two high draft picks for an obviously rental, is an awfully high price to pay. Not to mention this still only makes the Devils the third best team in the East behind Pittsburgh and Washington. Good move for the Devils, but an awfully expensive move. i think the devils are definitely better than the pens now, and are prob right there with the hawks for the 3rd best team in the nhl. this all changes on a week to week basis though. these are all elite teams.

of the players are smart and know that winning more games this season is worse in the long run nah just kidding, they suck

with 9 of those on the road obvously they haven't been playing as well over that stretch, but this was the toughest part of the schedule, and an 8 game road trip always takes a toll.

by the way, i gotta wonder how much of this has to do with effort and just the mental aspect in general. it seems like this team got complacent around the time of that minnesota game. tonight was a perfect example. the effort was great in the 3rd period and we absolutely dominated them. but where was it in the 1st 2 periods? there was no sense of urgency, no fire. it looked like they were just going through the motions. i think Q needs to rip into this team. the carolina loss was kinda "eh" because it was the last game of a brutal road trip, but tonight was disgusting. they did not come to play in the first 2 periods at all, and that's been happening too often recently.

once again this team plays down to the competition. back to back regulation losses against carolina and st. louis is unacceptable.
