  1. sounds like he's gone. or just a weak negotiating tactic
  2. There's a massive difference in the two players' offense. Are you saying Hill is better at these other things a catcher is supposed to do to the tune of a .300 difference in OPS? And quite frankly, Soto's defense isn't that much worse than Hill's. I'm saying I don't know, and I don't think anyone else does either. really? this sounds like lou's argument, which is just ridiculous. "our offense sucks anyways, so we might as well go with defense". if your offense sucks, the last thing you'd want to do is get rid of one of the only guys who actually does hit. if the rest of your offense blows, that makes soto's bat even more valuable, not less.
  3. We overrate Soto a lot, but yet you think Colvin should play more? Colvin is competing against 4 other people for 3 spots in the OF, all of whom have had a better career than Colvin has. Soriano and Byrd for the most part have been damn good this year, and Fuku started out really well, and still is the best option to leadoff we have on this team. What has Koyie Hill done in his career to justify playing more than Soto? Soto is younger, and has had a much better career offensively than Hill. Also, no matter what Lou or the other idiots in the media would like you to believe, the defensive difference between the 2 isn't much. The only person being overrated on this team is Tyler Colvin If only offense was the only thing that mattered as a catcher. so you think the difference in defense between the 2 makes up for the difference of OVER 300 POINTS in ops? that must be some pretty spectacular defense serious, we're talking about a .554 OPS to an .861 OPS. there is really no argument whatsoever to be had about who is the better player.
  4. if soto was qualified (and the only reasons he isn't are the walks and Lou Piniella), he'd have the second best OPS from a catcher in all of baseball, and only .01 behind Victor Martinez for number 1 (soto is at .860, martinez is at .861) when you take into account that OPS doesn't way OBP as heavily as it should, soto has basically been the best hitting catcher in baseball this year. but yeah let's bench an elite hitting catcher at age 27 so we can play a terrible player. that's reasonable.
  5. even though i hate the white sox, this is pretty badass http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/cubs-sox-blackhawks.jpg not sure i like dempster ruining the symmetry though
  6. Wow, while not scoring many goals I thought Hossa was fantastic throughout the whole of the playoffs. It will be glossed over and forgotten because they won, but the criticism of Hossa during these playoffs was preposterous. Simply an easy target because he wasn't scoring goals and the whole "curse" thing. But I assure you, anyone who was criticizing his play doesn't know the first damn thing about hockey. He was phenomenal. i was reading a detroit forum (i know, i know) and i saw one poster call hossa an "along-for-the-ride fraud", and another said "it's obvious by watching him that he is trying to do it all himself. he is the definition of a selfish player" it's really amazing that so many people have this bizarre hatred towards a fantastic player who just wants to win. i guess it all stems from his one year deal with detroit, which is ridiculous. when guys take the biggest offer, they're "typical athletes who are just in it for the money", but when a guy risks a ton of money because of an intense desire to win, he's a mercenary. very stupid, especially considering i've seen these same people call him "ho$$a" because of his big contract with the hawks. they needs to make up their minds on what they hate him for. really, the whole one year deal thing made me like him more. it just showed that he's all about winning above anything else, and that's the guy i want on my team. also, his celebration after the OT winner against nashville was one of my favorite celebrations ever (even though emrick effed up the call by calling him kane)
  7. i also forgot how annoying the nashville announcers were.
  8. hossa became my favorite player at some point during this season. he is amazing i decided to re-watch the 10 minute highlight things from NHL.com for each game, starting with game 1 of the playoffs. i had forgotten how disastrous that first game was. the bouncing puck that went past niemi to tie it in the first, and then the ridiculous turnover by brouwer to give them the game winner. it seems like it wasnt even this season when that stuff happened
  9. yeah apparently i missed a few posts
  10. well if the celtics win, at least in wont be at home
  11. okay reading over the last 2 pages, maybe sulley was trolling you
  12. why are we even talking hockey on a cubs message board then?
  13. he's staying in the game? this is unbelievable
  14. OH MY GOD PAUL PIERCE IS DEAD
  15. nice shot, farmar
  16. Do not mess with the defense. Seriously, that's our biggest strength, and our goalie isn't getting better anytime soon. it could if we got somebody like price
  17. trolling the flyers, not truffle. everything thats being said in this thread would still be said even if there wasn't a philly fan here.
  18. 4m for an average goalie? later antti
  19. i hope koyie hill goes 0-4 every game he plays and the cubs lose 2-1
  20. It's not really a "must" win. Technically no, since it's not an elimination game, but there aren't more than a handful of people in the world outside of the Celtics locker room who realistically believe they can win both Games 6 and 7 in LA. If they win tomorrow, I certainly think Boston can split in LA and win the title. They've already split in LA earlier this series. Why can't they do it again? re-read the posts you're replying to.
  21. i'm assuming that they said before or during the series something about that, but i didn't see it. what exactly did they say, and where on the site did they say it?
  22. thanks dudes is there a specific team that is considered the favorite?
  23. I'm about the biggest soccer noob ever, so could someone tell me what the expectations were/are for the US in the World Cup? I have no idea if they're supposed to be really good or if they aren't supposed to have a chance.
  24. because people don't really care anymore it seems. they've accepted this train wreck -- Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:59 pm -- No, that's he main problem. He's never right. And what the hell are you talking about with Chicago blaming Steve Stone? I don't think the city of Chicago necessarily blames him for anything, but it seems like all the hatred toward him spewed from the whole debacle in 2004 with Dusty and some of the players. i think it's the opposite of that. im pretty sure most people were on his side for that. people started hating him after he left and started opening his mouth and acting like he was god. he tries soooooooo hard to get everyone on his side and against the cubs. basically he's just an extremely bitter and petty person.
  25. Quick! Someone post their stats over the last [arbitrary period] to justify this! 9-27 during current 8 game hit streak with like a .680 ops probably
