  1. campoli not coming back? i don't think there's any way you can say this team has gotten better this offseason. i guess we'll just have to hope for rebound years from guys like keith/seabrook/hjalm, etc. this is disappointing.
  2. I figured it was because they got a first round draft pick for Troy Brouwer. But it will probably be one of the last first round picks. I think he would have had more value to us on the roster this upcoming season. The deeper the team is, the better. They already used the pick on a guy they wanted. It was about value for a replacable player, not getting rid of Brouwer. And like I said, I think Brouwer had more value to next season's team than the value we got for him. We have plenty of young talent, we needed to be adding quality depth for this years team, not dumping it.

  4. Judging by the recent comments from Bowman and Q, it sounds like the Hawks are basically done shopping. I'm kind of disappointed in this offseason. I loved the Campbell trade the Brunette signing, but I don't really understand the rest. The whole thing was to get quality depth, right? Did we really do that? Carcillo can play a little bit, but it seems like most of the depth we added were 4tt line quality goons. I was fine with the Brouwer trade at the time, but now I don't get it. We have plenty of room to fit him in, and he's a solid depth guy. When we traded him I figured it was to clear more space for other moves, but apparently that's not the case. On paper, I don't think we've gotten better at all. Even though the Campbell trade was a good one, it's still a significant loss to next year's team. Montador is a nice replacement, but he doesn't bring to the table what Campbell can. As much as we trashed Campbell early on in his contract, he was fantastic the last 2 seasons. Not worth what he was getting, but still well above average player. I think Kujay mentioned earlier in the offseaosn that he wa skind of worried that this would be the year where we try to save some money to make up for all the spending in recent years. It looks like that's happening. I understand it and I can't say I'm angry with it, but it's still a bummer. I just don't feel like we added quality depth or improved the team from last year. I mean, we didn't even add a center (yet), and from Bowman and Q's comments, it sounds like theyre telling everyone that they're perfectly fine with playing Sharp at center and sticking with the rest that we have. I think that's a mistake.
  5. rose was good in the indiana series?
  6. Keep: Dempster, Castro, Marmol, Garza, Soto Only trade if we somehow get surprisingly good value: Zambrano, Byrd, Ramirez Take what you can get for the rest of the team. If you miraculously get someone to take on like 70% or more of Soriano's contract... do it, even if you're the one giving prospects with him.
  7. man, he couldn't have gone down at a worse angle i wish i didnt watch that video. the little kid's reaction was disturbing. it looked so innocent, like he was just watching his dad take a little tumble and would get right back up.
  8. rey ordonez named to nl all-star team (for defense)
  9. i am not a macheen. i am al-bert
  10. if that ends up being the case, the sharks are going to be reeaalllly good
  11. it just seems like havlat hasn't been the same since kronwall deleted him
  12. seems kind of risky for a lateral move. both guys are the same age, but heatley has played 80+ games in 5 of the last 6 years (71 in the other year), and havlet is still havlat despite staying "healthy" most of last season. considering both are wingers and are both about the same caliber players, i don't really see the point. havlat has a lower cap hit and earns less than heatley, but he also has an additional year on his contract. on a semi-related note, i'm still very happy we chose hossa over havlat.
  13. i'm convinced that hendry is never going to get fired.
  14. polanco makes the all-star team with a .681 ops. hilarious. chipper's is .761. there is no argument to be made that either guy deserves it over aramis. it isn't even close. oh well, good thing it's meaningless.
  15. i quickly looked at his part articles and saw one with this title- i like this guy
  16. this is kinda late, but CBC's year end playoff montages are always a must watch.
  17. Can you please tell me everyone you follow on twitter for rumors? I don't know who to follow.
  18. kobe is still well above average, isn't 33 yet, and is one ring away from tying jordan. he's not going anywhere.
  19. Wow, cursing at the TV at your gf's parents house over fantasy football? You sound like a real catch. yea he sounds like a real square
  20. how would you guys feel about bringing madden back for one year? i wish we could get burish back
  21. Let me rephrase that: I think Hjalmarsson is a better bet than Campbell going forward. NH was a completely different player last year than he was the season before. I think/hope he's more 2009-2010 Hjalmarsson than 2010-2011. He was just too good in 09-10 (at such a young age) for me to believe he's as bad as he was last year. I think he's more capable of being the rock on the second line than Campbell. I feel like Campbell would need somebody better than Leddy with him to play good enough defense. Also, Campbell is 8 years younger than Hjalmarsson. Don't forget, Niklas just turned 24. he's on the rise, and Campbell figures to be on the decline soon. I just think Hjalmarsson can/will provide more to the team than Campbell will. Campbell doesn't play on the first PP line, doesn't play on the PK, and his offensive numbers aren't as good as you'd expect from the type of D-man he is. He's a fantastic puck mover, but that's about all he brings to the table really.
  22. considering the way things looked when the Kane/Toews bonuses showed up after the cup, Bowman has done an amazing job. we were supposed to be in all kind of trouble, and now (just a year later) how are the hawks looking? - we didn't lose any of our top 4 forwards (i thought for sure we'd have had to dump Sharp by now) - we didn't lose one of our top 3 d-men (even though Hjlamarsson was shaky this season, i still like him better than Campbell... even without considering contracts) - we came out at least even on the goaltending situation (probably). Crawford and Niemi seem to be comparable going forward, and we got Crawford at about 1.5m a year cheaper than Niemi. Meanwhile, we were able to extend Seabrook/Hjalmarsson, and somehow got rid of Campbell's contract. Every move he's made his been right. Byfuglian/Ladd/Versteeg was the expendable ones and he wasn't afraid to trade any of them just because they were heroes in the Cup run and suddenly fan favorites (Byfuglian). Blackhawks are looking good long-term.
  23. i was wondering why people thought we'd trade away a 7+ mil a year contract for another one. im dumb. i usually think of brad first too because of him winning the conn smythe down here
  24. wait, has there been speculation that LA is going to flip richards? where is the richards talk coming from? i haven't heard anything. is LA in a bad cap situation or something?
  25. oh man, this is huge. this franchise is looking gooood. hossa's contract is the only one that looks even slightly bad now, and it's still not that bad. so we've got 3 elite forwards, 2 elite young defensemen, and a young promising goalie all locked up for the future and we now have very good cap maneuverability to fill in the rest with quality pieces.
