  1. I wonder if Castro even knows what Ryne Sandberg looks like.
  2. This is how every "good baseball man" advances in baseball, because all baseball men have nothing but good things to say about all good baseball men. Every pitching coach does a great job, every hitting coach is tremendously helpful, every manager has players that want to play for him, every scout is a savvy one. Those statements are completely worthless. As some have already noted, the Cubs players were gaga over Mike Quade last fall and he proved to be an incompetent boob. Also: Mike Quade had a lot of experience in the Cubs organization. Almost all of the meatball excuses for Sandberg can be applied to Quade. That is a horrible analogy. Mike Quade on his best day doesn't garner the respect from players that Sandberg does. We saw that toward the end of the this year, when they players used him as a doormat. In what ways?
  3. If we start talking about Theo again it might get sexual again
  4. It'll be like watching Derrick Rose in the playoffs all season long!! You excited to see KG playing a bunch of back-to-backs this season?
  5. That's certainly the most likely outcome. just sayin, anything less than a championship will be a disappointment until they win one
  6. If they replicate what they did last year every season, it will be a failure
  7. Dempster's last 8 starts- 48 IP, 55H , 26 BB, 44 K, 5.44 I hope he picks up his option (mainly because we already have enough space to get Pujols or Fielder and there isn't really anyything else I'd want the Cubs to spend significant money on this offseason), but it definitely wasn't just April. He sucked pretty bad for the last portion of the season too.
  8. "ERA after 95 pitches" sounds like an amazing stat
  9. Dusty Baker's players all loved him and he even has a good major league track record according to most. Anyways, why is his minor league managing w/l record significant in any way?
  10. can we please stop posting articles from guys like rosenbloom? it's just getting him more views
  11. I got to sit at the press table or whatever right next to the bench for a magic/jazz game when malone/stockton were still around. it was pretty crazy. everything seemed way more fast paced and frantic when you're right there
  12. I want Brett Jackson to be starting in center field next year
  13. fielder/pujols this year, hamels and danks/greinke next year. that's my dream scenario as far as free agency in the next 2 offseasons go. with just those 3 moves, the cubs would have an offensive core of fielder/castro/soto/jackson (i think) and a starting pitching core of hamels/danks/garza with only 1 season under theo's belt. i mean, it wouldn't really be hard to build a really good team around that, at all.
  14. if the season gets cancelled we're already 40% of the way through boozer's contract!!
  15. bill simmons is a pretty connected guy (and he's been pretty negative about this season's chances all along), so this tweet from him got me excited
  16. ahh we have such fun at the expense of the canucks. so great
  17. i still think the OT should be extended if your team gets a power play with less than 2 minutes remaining
  18. sandberg has a residence in chicago sooooooo.....
  19. Did you hear Theo's comment on wanting to make sure the big contracts he gives are to players we'll be getting in their prime years (26-32)?
  20. What's your view on signing Pujols? On the CC idea, I'd be fine with giving him a 6 year deal and getting 4 elite years. Unless you think CC is going to just fall off a cliff at 35 (possible), then his decline would take him from elite to great to very good and then the contract ends. To put it another way, he may be a 7 WAR player the next two years, 6 WAR two years after that, 4 WAR, and then 3 WAR the final two years of his deal. I'd be fine with that. My opposition to CC is not that he'd be declining at the end of his contract, but that his AAV will probably be in the $23-28 range, which would put us out of the Pujols/Prince sweepstakes. Given the pitching upcoming this offseason and next and the fact that hitters are less of a risk than pitchers, I'll pass on CC in order to go after Pujols/Prince. Mixed feelings on Albert. On one hand I can't deny that it would be amazing to see him play for the Cubs, but I don't know. I think I'd prefer Prince with the savings it would allow over Pujols. Pujols just scares the hell out of me at the price he's going to demand. Too risky imo.
