things didn't go as prieto had planned -
even if you add good pitching prospects with dempster/garza trades and next year's inevitable top 5 pick, i still feel like they're going to need add pitching through free agency if we're going to be at all relevant in the next couple years. i know they're trying to manage expectations and stuff by making it sound like they won't spend, but i don't buy it. i think they'll be realtively aggressive this offseason, especially if garza is traded.

they're going to basically have to spend money on something pretty soon, unless our payroll is going to be like 60 million every year. the organization is short on pitching assets, and this is the perfect offseason to add them without giving up anything other than money. i don't know if we'll get greinke or hamels, but i'd be pretty disappointed (and surprised) if they don't go relatively hard after starting pitching this offseason.

I sure hope he does. And I sure hope Amaro resigns Hamels. Taking Hamels and Greinke off the market before the deadline would all but guarantee a HUGE return for Garza and Dempster it would also take the best 2 pitchers off the market for an offseason where the cubs will have a ridiculous amount of money to spend. not to mention that the other guys like anibal sanchez could be harder and more expensive to get with hamels/greinke off the market.

Why? It's not like the Phillies are going to do a full on rebuild. We're talking one of the best young pitchers in baseball here. stop calling garza and hamels young pitchers
