  1. I think he's saying they won't get that kind of value from anyone else, which is kind of obvious.
  2. Do you really see them trading him this offseason? There is a gaping hole at 3B. Vitters is young and under cost control for some time. I guess I wouldn't be surprised but if I see them giving him a shot at least. Yeah, I don't think they believe in Vitters as a capable MLB hitter. They traded Colvin and signed a FA RF last year, I imagine that they don't have a problem trading Vitters and going with a more preferred 3B option in FA or trade. I'm confused by the comparison between Colvin and Vitters
  3. lol at cc having no clue what vitters has done this season
  4. I've got high doubts that the Padres would have interest in adding Garza. I think their interests in moving Headley have as much to do with the fact that Gyorko is close to ready, and he really isn't ideal at 2nd base. Thus, with a cheap alternative at 3rd, if they feel like Gyorko can produce enough offensively, then moving Headley, in a seller's market (particularly for the position) makes some sense. I wouldn't mind looking at Headley (largely because I think people forget that he was guy with good power potential in the minors, but changed his swing to adapt to Petco), but I doubt we get involved with that because the reports for what they are seeking is just ... enormous. I like Headley, but giving up that much to get him now makes zero sense. yea, i don't usually get into the hypothetical trade stuff. i'm ashamed of myself.
  5. haven't the padres been extending some guys to compete in the short term? they're trying to move headley (which conflicts with that idea but whatever). any chance whatsoever for a deal involving headley and garza? there was another rumor about the cubs looking for minor league 3b today, so maybe they'd be into that. garza would be a really good fit in petco, and his injury might not be as a big of a deal for a team thats already out of it. and now i see that i am wsr edit: for some reason i thought headley was 26
  6. i still think we get delgado, btw. or webster at the worst. i have faith in theo and jed.
  7. well, you know what i mean. not veto them outright but do this whole "i might accept it... later" routine.
  8. You can doubt the truth of the narrative, but it seems to fit just fine to me. - Cubs agree to terms with the Braves - Dempster hems and haws, not wanting to close the door on LA with so far to go til the trading deadline - Braves say they're done as a way of saying "we're not going to ignore other options while Dempster hems and haws" - Cubs aren't able to agree with LA after days of trying, and Dempster relents on going somewhere besides LA Maybe Atlanta really had their feelings hurt about the ordeal and have zero interest in any Dempster deal anymore(which would be a really stupid thing for a Major League organization to do), or maybe after more time has passed they found a better deal for themselves. But the sequence of events isn't out of place to me. it was this line that didn't really make sense to me, but it might just be tricky wording by levine what does this even mean? "he'll consider any deals that the cubs present to him..... except he'll definitely veto all of them if it's not LA"
  9. yea, i don't buy it. the narrative doesn't even make sense. it's in ryan's best interest for the cubs to get some leverage back with LA, so i'm guessing this is what this is all about. i still think he'll accept a trade to atlanta if he's 100% sure the dodgers deal isn't happening. the fact that the braves are apparently out on greinke could be good news.
  10. that seems extremely petty and is a poor way to run an organization. anyways, it's not like dempster came out and said "[expletive] atlanta, i'm not going there". i'm sure any sort of ill-will between them could be made up with a phone call and an explanation. what about trades for players without NTCs or 10/5 rights? who cares if a guy wants to go there? players are property, and ryan dempster is trying to put himself in the best situation for his last big payday. he'll do his job. "alright we're ready to give you turner+ for anibal sanchez.... but first can you ask if he wants to play here?"
  11. also only been caught stealing 3 times. he's got a good chance to win the ROY, MVP, and batting title
  12. so much posturing still going on. i still think that ryan is holding out hope for LA but would ultimately accept the atlanta trade if it were between that and staying with the cubs. while he's holding out, the braves could also move on and get another pitcher, taking them out of the race (then dempster can try and save face by saying he never actually "rejected" the trade and was just thinking it over). i don't buy the fact that wren lost interest because he was irked about dempster not wanting to play for them. if dempster changes his mind and the braves havent made anothe deal yet, i think the original delgado trade would go through. it would really help if LA went out and got another starter, taking themselves out on dempster. "ok ryan, you can visit atlanta for 2 months or you can stay and we'll qualify you. also cubs fans won't laugh at your jokes anymore."
  13. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/marlins-jeffrey-loria-david-samson-fire-sale-trade-hanley-ramirez-new-stadium-.html
  14. the first two paragraphs were great, but the third left something to be desired
  15. i still think we get delgado. i think dempster cares too much about his good guy image to let this blow up. he'll cave, probably in the next couple days. there is a whoollleeeee lot of posturing going on right now wren says they're "moving on" but then leaves the door open for the trade to still be done. then he puts the pressure on dempster by letting everyone know exactly how this is playing out. dempster is trying to gain sympathy so he can save face and still look like a good guy about this. behind closed doors, i think he's still holding out for LA while knowing in the back of his mind that he'll accept a trade to atlanta if LA is truly out. cubs FO is leaking things so we hear things from twitter dudes about how they might just keep him and qualify him. this is about the only leverage they can use with LA and with dempster. basically everyone is playing chicken right now. my main concern would be that atlanta gets impatient and makes a deal for another pitcher (dempster is probably hoping for this too). as long as atlana hasn't made another deal, i feel like this is still going to happen
  16. damn, our chances of getting a ML starter for Dempster keep getting slimmer.
  17. this is like the 837th post that is ignoring that fact that dempster indicated to the cubs that he was willing to go to atlanta.
  18. Your guess is super stupid. didn't you just learn about sarcasm a couple days ago in this same thread?
  19. people just don't understand how james loney changed the very essence of who he is
  20. oh i must have missed the part where there was a press conference and he held up a list of teams and the braves were #2 on the list. apparently that was common knowledge and not third-hand whispers down the lane. most people believe that the dodgers are #1, so i'm having a hard time understanding why the braves - nowhere close to los angeles geographically - would be #2. i've seen reports that he'd like to be on the west coast because of family, so maybe the braves were on the list of teams he'd consider but ultimately decided not to play for them. why are you choosing to believe the dodgers rumors but not the atlanta ones?
  21. so then why did theo/hoyer come to an agreement with atlanta if dempster didn't give them indications he was willing to go there?
  22. You mock him for "blind loyalty", then turn around and speculate something completely unfounded in order to legitimize your feelings of angst about a situation you have close to no information on. it's pretty obvious that he had indicated he'd go to atlanta. how long ago was it that all those quotes came out about theo and dempster keeping in contact and having discussed where he'd be willing to go? the pictures of them in the empty stands, etc. so knowing that, do you think it's reasonable to think that the cubs front office spent time negotiating with atlanta and COMING TO A TRADE AGREEMENT without being under the impression that he'd accept a deal there? it's common sense. we know theo and dempster have kept in contact and have been on the same page. they wouldn't have come to an agreement with atlanta if they thought dempster was unwilling to go there. You don't even know why the trade hasn't gone through. Think about that for a second. Yes, Dempster has not given his approval yet, but you have no idea why. You're just guessing and calling him a cry baby to appease this misguided sense of entitlement you have. we know exactly why the trade hasn't gone through. there were literally quotes from wren saying that they agreed on the trade and they're just waiting on dempster. it sounds like you don't want to accept that ryan dempster might be doing something kinda shitty here.
