    Smith didn't bring up the accusation. Someone else (no clue who) did, and Jake shrugged it off. Then Smith said that whether or not it was true, due to his sudden rise, it wasn't smart to just shrug it off, and Jake pretty much went off on Smith. see, you keep making it sound like there was a specific accusation that started the whole thing
