  1. Quick, entirely overmanaging strategy question here. Blanco was up with 1st and 2nd, one out. Let's say he walked there, and loaded the bases for Harden, a very weak hitter. Hypothetically, would it be possible to announce Zambrano as the "starting pitcher" every day, and bat him in the 9th spot, so that in the rare cases the pitcher bats in the first, we get a good hitter? If he doesn't come up, then just "substitute" in the actual starting pitcher, Harden. I know you wouldn't want to do it with a positional bench player, because it wastes him, but there's no chance of Z getting into this game anyways, so what's the difference? I have a sinking feeling that the whole "announced pitcher has to throw at least one pitch" thing is going to make all this worthless, but just something that popped into my head...
  2. With that home run, DeRosa ties his career high (13).
  3. Missed the first 7 innings due to work....anyone have a clip of Edmonds waving to LaRussa after his first HR? They don't show it on mlb.com Also...Edmonds is becoming one of my favorite players and Howry actually was effective today. Not sure which one was less likely, but I think hell is freezing over
  4. But we COULD afford a lengthy Howry suspension....
  5. Z's pumped...let's hope he keeps it in the 92-94 range rather than trying to dial it up...
  6. Pretty sure he's been visited by Modzilla. Exposed?
  7. During an exhibition game. This time...IT COUNTS
  8. Anybody else's sound quality just get really static-y on the CSN feed? Edit: See I'm not the only one. So I get to pick between this and a frozen image of Pujols that is still on TBS. Great...
  9. For what it's worth, my TBS is currently frozen on a hideous picture of Fat Albert, which I guess is my version of being blacked out, only with a very cruel twist.
  10. With Hoff and Fontenot being used over Edmonds, maybe it's a sign the Edmonds Era is coming to an end soon? Unfortunately, that would mean that Johnson takes over centerfield full time, but I guess anything that gets pretty boy off our roster is a step in the right direction...
  11. Edmonds is honestly so bad that I'm just praying for his patented shallow fly out to right field. There's not even a reasonable chance for anything good to happen, and I would like to see Soto with runners on.
  12. I'm not sure how to feel about the whole Gallagher situation. To me, it seems like something in the middle of the situations with Pie and Theriot. On one end (the Pie end), you have this kid who is clearly very talented, especially for his age, and is going to need some time to adjust to the majors. But unlike Pie, I think we can all agree that there are better options right now for the current team that aren't playing, which is more of a Theriot/Cedeno type situation. Best case scenario he figures it out quickly and becomes the best option this year. If that doesn't happen, it will be interesting to see how the Cubs deal with it with Marshall/Hill/Hart down in AAA.
  13. Do you really have to ask? Let's see Swisher is batting 100 pts lower and has less hr's and rbis. Ellsbury is batting 34 pts lower and has less hr's and rbis. Hermida is batting more 25 pts lower and has less hr's and rbis. Sizemore is batting 35 pts lower and has one hr more and less rbis. Oh and Upton has a .392 OBP (the highest of them all) which helps OPS I mean come on dude its a no brainer. Yeah if I were just basing it on production for the first month and a half of the year, it would be an easy decision. But Upton's BABIP is 412 right now. He simply can't sustain that. When he comes back down to earth, and Swisher starts playing up to his career norms (in a much smaller ballpark)... Now Hermida vs Upton is a much tougher. argument. I want to keep Ellsbury around for his runs and stolen bases, and I'm obviously not going to drop Sizemore.
  14. In my 10 team, H2H league, J Upton just got dropped. We use 6 offensive categories (R, HR, RBI, SB, Avg, OPS), and my current outfield picture is: Sizemore Ellsbury Hermida Swisher Another person I could consider dropping is Todd Helton, moving Swisher to the first base spot, even though he's sucked this year. My Util Spot is currently taken up by Soto, with McCann at catcher. Should I make a run at him? Or are those are early season numbers too good to be true?
  15. How do you figure? That's a tough throw to make on the fly
  16. That video should violate some sort of decency regulations of this board. Banned?
  17. Vance, looking over your stats, just a quick question...or maybe a correction. Do pitchers get credited with giving up a home run when it's of the inside the park variety?
  18. That is one heinous lineup we ran out there. +1...I had to double check to make sure that was actually from last year...My god...
