That, and the Brewers thought so highly of Priester that they went with a bullpen game ahead of him. And then still put Priester above Quintana in the pecking order. Quintana hasn't pitched since 9/14 and has a 7.40 ERA in his last four starts/20 innings, to use the ever popular 'how did he do in September' sample size. Baseball is dumb and our offense is certainly struggling, so he may just shut us out for 5 innings, but....advantage Cubs

I think our guys a little more....interchangeable (not a compliment) than the Brewers. That and the fact that we've already seen Koenig twice and Uribe and Megill once (and those guys would be looking at 3 appearances in 4 days) whereas Kittredge, Keller, and Thielbar haven't pitched in this series yet. But I get your point.

This is bad logic, but a 10-8 victory is way more damaging here than a 9-1 victory. We go up 6 or 7 they'll probably just punt with Quintana and Gasser. The game stays close and they're going to want to use their top arms.

Yeah I've spent the last 5 minutes trying to figure out why they went with a full on bullpen game on Monday. Obviously they are still in the driver seat but they've got to get 52 outs in the next two days without Peralta, Priester, and (likely) the Misier-whatever and I'm not totally sure what that plan is

Can you respond to Jason's post? What's to stop Busch and Hoerner from looking around confused on the next pop up with guys on first and second?

All the chatter online I've seen relates to the runner at second base relaying either the position of the catcher or (in the case of the one video I saw but can't find) Contreras at second doing what he could to look at Shota's grip as he was set, holding the ball in his glove. Neither are illegal, no point in getting into some debate about Unwritten Rules, I think it'll be interesting to see if it reached the Cubs....should be able to tell pretty quick if Kelly sets up on one side and then moves during the delivery. Although obviously if Taillon wants to take care of it himself and not let a guy on second, that works too. -
On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, for just a last gasp of entertainment, giving the fans an extra hour before the game to 'warm up' coming off a win today would maybe be our last chance at seeing that fully amped Wrigley crowd. Think the team is going to have to do it themselves today.

I just spent 15 unsuccessful minutes looking for the video I saw while half-asleep doom scrolling last night, but there was a decent breakdown about Contreras pretty egregiously leaning to his left while leading off on second to get a look at Shota's grip in his glove right before the home run. Again, not illegal, do better, but I think the assorted internet chatter isn't some electronic wire conspiracy, more just the type of behavior that (back in the day) would get a pitch thrown behind you. Coming from policing-the-bat-flips Contreras is especially rich, but any anger I have towards it is mostly just because we're down 2-0. -
