  1. Wow, way to screw up with the timeout.
  2. Look at pitches (specifically the pitches Prior threw as he tired and his mechanics altered). Pitcher abuse is a great stat to look at. Especially when it was Prior's first season throwing anywhere near that many innings.
  3. Getting his velocity back is a big IF. I don't think so. It's nearly half-way there from where he starter a few weeks ago. Are you saying he was throwing 85-87 in last start? Are you serious?
  4. Getting his velocity back is a big IF. And even if he did, look at what he did the last two years when he had it....not exactly ace quality pitching. Before the line drive, he was "ace quality" last season.
  5. I think it will in a few starts.
  6. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu (2-5, 3.88 ERA, 67.1 IP, 53/26, 1.23 WHIP) vs. LHP Renyel Pinto (4-2, 2.93 ERA) :( West Tenn: LHP JR Mathes (5-4, 3.43 ERA, 76 IP, 59/17, 1.22 WHIP) Daytona: RHP Justin Berg (5-5, 4.54 ERA, 73.1 IP, 62/33, 1.53 WHIP) Boise: LHP Mark Pawelek ('05, Mesa & Boise: 0-3, 2.54 ERA, 46 IP, 60/22, 1.15 WHIP)
  7. Yes, Mark is the opening day starter for Boise.
  8. Boise's Roster Get to Know the Hawks - with a blurb on Petrick
  9. Nah. Given how raw he is, I'm kind of surprised that he doesn't go to Mesa (I guess it's the whole got to woo him away from football thing). I think we might see Downs and Blevins from Boise's roster in Peoria. Seeing who goes to Peoria as catcher will be interesting. I'd guess a draft pick IF will replace Mota on the Peoria roster. I am surprised that the Cubs promoted Mota (.276/.326/.322, 13 Ks, 7 BBs; age 19) over Chirinos (.269/.383/.408, 35 Ks, 39 BBs, age 22), who held his own at Daytona last season. The Cubs seem to like Mota; a 19-year SS promoted to high-A is rather impressive.
  10. His power should translate to the big leagues, but his long swing and average plate discipline is going to get him eaten up in the big leagues. His K-rate is really bad now itself.
  11. Campusano's (Peoria's closer) double promotion to West Tenn leads me to believe Clay Rapada is headed up to AAA soon enough.
  12. I merged all three of today's promotions threads into one and summarized all the promotions in the first post.
  13. LHP Donnie Veal C Jake Muyco SS Jonathon Mota LHRP Ed Campusano (to AA, will participate in the MWL All-Star game first) http://www.peoriachiefs.com/news/?id=6044
  14. Chiefs lose the last game of the first half, 4-3. Of course, they already won the division in the first half.
  15. Reed doubled, advanced on a Valdez single and scored on a Yusef Carter RBI single to make it 4-3. Runners at first and second with one out in the 8th for Alberto Garcia. EDIT: Garcia and Taylor don't come through, the Chiefs are still down 4-3 as we go to the bottom of the 8th.
  16. Who is currently in High A. And 25 years old. Repeating the level for the third year.
  17. Kane County scores 2 in the bottom of the 6th in part due to a couple of Cheifs errors. 4-2 after 6, Peoria down.
  18. Blackford done, Evenson in (coming off a 3-game suspension). Blackford: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3/1
  19. Gah. Yusef tried to score on a WP but he hesitated first, which allowed him to be gunned out, 2-1. :( In the middle of the 6th in Geneva, it's tied at 2.
  20. Peoria threatening to tie with 2 outs in the 6th inning: Jesus Valdez doubled and then Yusef Carter with a single (Valdez held at third). Alberto Garcia is up. Garcia hits a grounder to third base, but the first baseman drops the third baseman's throw and everyone's safe. Valdez scores and Carter goes to third and the game is tied at 2.
  21. He's fine. He wasn't really injured. It was just a super secret steroids supsension. He was throwing high 80's, topping out at like 90 or 91 on occasion with no movement. The lack of curve balls is a concern as well. The curve ball puts more strain on the arm, so maybe he was holding it back because of the pain. Either that or the pitch just plain sucks for him right now. I hope he is fine/gets fine so we can get his butt out of town for anything of value, but I think that is a little too optimistic. He was topping out at 92 just like in his last few starts in the minors, but yeah, the movement wasn't there. Mark isn't holding back - his curve was sharp and fantastic his last time out for Iowa. He was throwing it today, it just wasn't effective in the first. It became better after the first.
  22. Peoria down 2-1 to Kane County in the 5th.
  23. He's fine. He wasn't really injured. It was just a super secret steroids supsension.
