  3. Iowa Cubs manager Pat Listach, who apparently has future big league manager potential (he was rated as the best manager prospect in 2008 in the PCL by Baseball America) will be the new third base coach for the Nats. Former Cubs manager Jim Riggleman will be the new Nats bench coach. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3662144

  13. So who's going to be there? I have tickets for both games. Game 3 (Saturday, 7 pm PDT): Reserve / Section 59 / Row P Game 4 (Sunday, TBD): Reserve / Section 23 / Row O http://media.ticketmaster.com/en-us/tmimages/venue/maps/la2/24794s.gif There are still some tix available for both games off the Dodgers web site (mostly singles now) and tons on Stub Hub. I might try and get better seats for Sunday's game. I'm pretty excited, it will be my first Cubs playoff game(s).

  16. Two Cubs made it and Vitters was the top prospect in the league. 1. Josh Vitters, 3b, Boise (Cubs) 2. Martin Perez, lhp, Spokane (Rangers) 3. Christian Friedrich, lhp, Tri-City (Rockies) 4. 17. Player of the Year: 1B Micah Hoffpauir, Iowa Pitcher of the Year: RHP Mitch Atkins, Tennessee & Iowa
  18. Two Cubs made it. 1. Mike Montgomery, lhp, Royals 2. Jaff Decker, of, Padres 3. Jharmidy DeJesus, 3b, Mariners 4. Ehire Adrianza, ss, Giants 5. Manuarys Correa, rhp, Angels 6. Clark Murphy, 1b, Rangers 19. Terrell Alliman, of/3b, Angels 20. Wendell Fairley, of, Giants Got to say I thought Jharmidy DeJesus was a shoe-in for #1. I am also surprised Larry Suarez didn't make it again after having a better season than last year while still being age-appropriate and rehabbing from major surgery. I was also holding out hope that one of Cerda or Watkins would make it, but those two not making it was less of a surprise to me. http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/prospects/rankings/league-top-20-prospects/2008/266852.html
  19. ITI had a nice piece on him: link. He makes it sound like he should be throwing harder than low 90s.
  20. Your other games thread on a day the Cubs game has already been postponed. Friday, September 12, 2008 (times ET) Minnesota at Baltimore 7:05 PM Baker vs Cabrera Toronto at Boston 7:05 PM Purcey vs Wakefield Kansas City at Cleveland 7:05 PM Meche vs Lee Tampa Bay at NY Yankees 7:05 PM Garza vs Ponson Milwaukee at Philadelphia 7:05 PM Parra vs Hamels St. Louis at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM Thompson vs Maholm Atlanta at NY Mets 7:10 PM Hampton vs Santana Washington at Florida 7:10 PM Martis vs Olsen Detroit at Chicago Sox 8:11 PM Verlander vs Danks LA Dodgers at Colorado 9:05 PM Billingsley vs Francis Cincinnati at Arizona 9:40 PM Cueto vs Webb Seattle at LA Angels 10:05 PM Rowland-Smith vs Saunders Texas at Oakland 10:05 PM Harrison vs Smith San Francisco at San Diego 10:05 PM Sanchez vs Peavy
  21. Four Cubs to Hawaii per ITI: 2B Tony Thomas (Daytona) 3B Marquez Smith (Daytona) LHP Jeremy Papelbon (Iowa; spent the whole regular season with Daytona) RHP Blake Parker (Daytona) I was hoping Drew Rundle or Cliff Andersen would go. Oh well, good to see the Cubs sending 4 guys this year after only 2 last year. Last year the Cubs sent Nate Samson and Ryan Harvey and when Harvey got hurt, Kyler Burke. In 2006, the Cubs sent Scott Koerber. It would be really cool if Marquez Smith was working on his second base play but I doubt it with Tony Thomas around. HWB starts its season on Sept. 27th.
