  1. Is this good news that nothing was found and he just wants a second opinion to confirm or bad news that he is done until 2020 and wants a second opinion to confirm? We have no idea with the little information we have. But he is going to a trusted doctor he's known for most his time in the U.S. Hopefully yesterday's pain was just a minor setback. It's really frustrating Alzolay got hurt because the organization was clearly planning on relying on him in the second half this season and he's clearly better than all other internal candidates, non-Drew Smyly category.
  2. BA ranked Osiel Rodriguez 5th, Richard Gallardo 6th. FG ranked Gallardo 6th, Rodriguez 7th.
  3. Interestingly, the 2019 SS is Cuban Alex Vargas. The Reds are projected to sign 16-year old Cuban SS Alexander Vargas for $3 million this year. I'm guessing since they made that note about 2019, they're two different Cuban SS. The Cubs can trade to increase their pool all the way to $8,721,125. We know they have $3.5 million tied up already so that's an additional $5.2 million if they trade for the full 75% cap space. But as you said, they've probably earmarked some of the remaining funds they already have.
  4. The Fangraphs International Free Agency Board: 6. Richard Gallardo - projected bonus: $800,000 27. José Lopez - projected bonus: $1,500,000 35. Joel Machado - projected bonus: $400,000 Badler said Rafael Morel should get around $800k like his older brother Christopher did. That would mean the Cubs are tied to $3.5 million for their top 4 signings and have $1.483 million remaining. Victor Mesa is #1. Some interesting stuff here: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-international-prospect-board/ 2019 Dominican SS Robert Puason is now linked to the A's and might get $5 million next year. He was a guy the Braves had an illegal deal with last year itself, part of the reason they got busted. (I'm sure Braves fans will rationally handle the fact that another team is linked to him over a year in advance.)
  5. Still not sure why they sent our stout adult son back to Eugene. 11/2 K/BB with 6 H and 1 HR in 7.2 IP sure looks like it played to me. They needed starter innings once Jeremiah Estrada got hurt the week before Eugene’s season started. I don’t think it’s anything against Passantino’s ability as generally team’s place a SP one level lower than they would if he were a reliever.

  8. 2:25 Navin: Seems to me like Miguel Amaya is breaking out this year. Has he become the Cubs best prospect? 2:27 Eric A Longenhagen: He was already a dude last year (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-22-prospects-chicago-cubs/) so I wouldn’t ‘say he’s breaking out, people are just noticing now because it’s on paper. Tools are still about what they were, maybe er’re all a little more confident in it now that he’s performing. He’s an advanced, 18 y/o everyday catching prospect.

  12. You don't need to use the [tweet][/tweet] tags. I edited them out of your post.
  13. So 290Kish for Parker, barring more underslot becoming available from Weber. Not sure that’s enough. Here’s hoping. Yep. $297,605. Basically $300k.
  14. Why couldn't you have kept Herrera for another week or two, Royals?
  15. If Weber signs for slot, they have $241,355 remaining to go over (that works out to a $366,355 for one player signed past the 10th round).
  16. If Weber comes in at slot and you consider the 5% overage, they still have $266,355 to play with. For a pick after the 10th round, that means the bonus would actually be $391,355.
  17. He got overslot money because he had leverage as a draft-eligible sophomore. I like him as a prospect too.
