And getting rocked. I was disappointed with FB velocity only being in the 94-96 range in a short burst. And thought his infield defense could’ve helped limit some of that damage.
Tommy: Thoughts on Nico Hoerner’s quality AFL? Eric A Longenhagen: He looks good, the same as he did in the spring. You still have to be okay with the throwing to project him at shortstop but I think he’s functional enough in that regard to be a 45 or 50 there. Francis: Tell me I’m really stupid for falling in love with the Cubs AZL teams and Eugene roster. I can’t help it. Eric A Longenhagen: Not stupid, I like a lot of those guys, too. KW: Erick Leal has yet to give up a run in the AFL. What’s your take on him? Should the Cubs protect him on the 40-man from the Rule 5 draft? Eric A Longenhagen: Jeez, I did not know that. Up/down guy for me.
A quick perusal of the draft forum for pre-draft coverage showed MLB.com said Hoerner ran “fairly well” and PG said he ran “above average” at the Cape.
10/29: DH T. Giambrone 2/2, 2 BB SS N. Hoerner 0/4, K C PJ Higgins 1/3, BB LF DJ Wilson 0/4, 4 K RP M. Rondón 0/2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1-1 GO-FO, 31-16 pitches-strikes
Bailey Clark is the only Cub playing the AFL All-Star Game. It'll be on Saturday on the MLB Network. Not sure what Giambrone and Hoerner did to get snubbed.
David Cone would check the ex-player box and is both open minded and good in the booth. He’d be great in this setting. He also likes having women watch while jerking off in the bullpen I was unaware he was Louis CK.
Kershaw is topping out at 90 this year. This is who he is at this point, he’s got to make that adjustment that comes with old age and diminished stuff to so many pitchers.
Again, I'm almost positive the Cubs will NOT lose their first round pick for signing Bryce Harper (after he receives the QO from the Nats). I'm pretty sure I'm right. I'm doubting myself because multiple posters here keep saying this... I believe the Cubs would lose their 2nd round pick + $500K in IFA money for the next signing period. If they finished the season over the luxury tax threshold I believe they would lose their 2nd round and 5th round picks + $1 mil in IFA money. I don't think the Cubs finished the season over the luxury tax and just managed to stay underneath it. Yes, the Cubs finished below the luxury tax this year. Guess it’s time for me to research the CBA stuff, I might be operating on old information from the Heyward/Lackey offseason.
Yeah, it’s obviously going to be wildly inaccurate but I always eat up early mocks because they’re fun and provide a picture of a certain scenario. Not that it matters, I fully expect the Cubs to lose their first round pick for signing Bryce.
