  1. You're right, it's not that clear. Wells made the FSL all-star team as a long reliever - which is pretty difficult to do, especially in the minors - showing the type of dominance he had as a reliever. He also had a cameo appearance at AA (causing him to miss the all-star game).
  2. I regret to inform you that Kendrick is no longer in Rancho. He's up in Arkansas and doing quite well. Wood you will get to see. Brandon was a pleasure to watch. He was 2/4 with a double, single, BB and three runs - and even his outs were hard hit. I had heard some questions about his defense, but he played SS pretty smoothly, made some nice throws and made one web gem-quality play. I wish he was a Cub prospect. I'll try to get some pics/videos of him later tonight or tomorrow, if anyone's interested.
  3. Probable Pitching Matchups: West Tenn suspended game started by RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu on Friday West Tenn (game 2): LHP Ryan O'Malley (3-2, 4.39 ERA) vs. RHP Bobby Basham (4-3, 3.38 ERA) Peoria: RHP Sean Gallagher (13-5, 2.86 ERA) vs. LHP Lucas French (1-1, 5.32 ERA) Boise: LHP Donald Veal (1-2, 4.20 ERA, 15 IP, 13 K, 7 BB) @ RHP Andrew Kreidermacher (1-2, 4.21 ERA) Mesa: LHP Mark Pawelek (0-3, 2.48 ERA, 40 IP, 52 K, 20 BB) vs. RHP Juan Jimenez (4-4, 3.86 ERA)
  4. I don't know about Pinto since he had that horrid start to the season in Iowa. Mateo definitely, but I think Wells clearly outshined him at Daytona.
  5. CHEERS! SOOO, doesn't this lend credence to the theory that if Eric has a good AFL showing, he could start in AA next season? Yes.
  6. I agree on both accounts, but that's b/c I agree with Hoops that Pie should get his shot in 06'. How many times have we seen guys like him make the jump from AA and set the world on fire? Pie's patience and plate discipline at AA were worse than Corey's and we saw how rushing him to the majors worked. There are certain talented players who can and should make the jump. Pie isn't one of them. Felix has all the skills needed to become an elite player, but he isn't ready for that just yet. Added to that is he hasn't played even at AA since June. He needs more time. I would say we don't see guys "like him" make that jump and set the world on fire, because guys with plate discipline "like him" usually get eaten up by major league pitching. To add to that - young guys who've made a successful jump from AA like Miguel Cabrera and Andruw Jones had much better plate discipline. They were ready to skip AAA, Felix is not.
  7. http://www.iowacubs.com/aspx/news.aspx?id=2135 Funny how these games were re-scheduled to this weekend because of a hurricane threat previously. I didn't know Howie was promoted. I missed out on him and Kendry Morales. :(
  8. My, this thread has taken a turn for the worse. I think we need to get back to talking about Elijah Dukes and high school freshmen. Oh, and I got a walk off Nolasco too.
  9. I think he can handle AAA with the emergence of his changeup (which he credits for his strong season at AA).
  10. He'll need to be protected on the 40-man (last offseason, he was left unprotected) this offseason. The change has come a long way, this season, which has helped him a lot. I think he could be a darkhorse candidate for '06 and should be ready by midseason next year, if the Cubs are interested in Ricky in the rotation.
  11. You see people! The opposition fears Carlos Enrique! He had a future the second he struck me out in a HS playoff game.
  12. I voted for the A's because I like them the most. I also moved this thread to Polls.
  13. I'm not really interested in Furcal or Wagner. I'd rather play Cedeño and sign BJ Ryan (if at all possible, otherwise, I'd re-sign Dempster). I wouldn't want to rush Pie to the big leagues and I don't think the Cubs could acquire Zito for so little. I like Giles and Riske.
  14. I'm going to Rancho Cucamonga tomorrow for the Quakes game. It will be my first minor league game, I'm excited to see Brandon Wood and Howie Kendrick.
  15. Probable Pitching Matchups: Iowa (game 1): RHP Jon Leicester (2-7, 5.38 ERA) @ Chris Durbin (4-5, 5.77) Iowa (game 2): just guessing: LHP Jon Koronka (8-10, 4.30 ERA) West Tenn: LHP Renyel Pinto (9-3, 2.62 ERA) Daytona: LHP JR Mathes (9-8, 4.74 ERA) Peoria: RHP Jesse Estrada (6-10, 5.18 ERA) @ RHP Jair Jurrjens (10-6, 3.31 ERA) Boise: LHP Jesus Yepez (4-1, 3.61 ERA) Mesa: RHP Scott Taylor (0-2, 4.85 ERA)
  16. No. Personally, I won't vote for Cedeño or Murton because they didn't play as much as others like Patterson or Sing (it's not their fault for being promoted to the big leagues but having to sit on the bench, but what Patterson and Sing did is more impressive because they had more minor league ABs). I personally won't be considering major league stats because the award is for minor league accomplishments.
  17. Florida Marlins @ Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field, 12:20 pm CT http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/fla.gif @ http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/chc.gif Game time weather: 78°F (feels like: 81°F) Partly Cloudy, 20% chance of rain Winds blowing from LF to RF at 9 mph (shifting to blowing in from LF) TV: FOX Radio: WGN 720 Pitching Matchup: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/425883.jpg @ http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/118120.jpg LHP Dontrelle Willis (17-8, 2.67 ERA) @ RHP Greg Maddux (10-10, 4.56 ERA) Cubs better win so I can start the thread for the Sandberg game. Maddux probably has 6 games to get 5 more wins for 15 on the season.
  18. If the season ended today, the Cubs would have the 11th pick in the draft - they could sign anyone in free agency and not have to surrender their first round pick!
  19. In case anyone cares, I was having problems getting the postgame show to work last night - the same sort of problems everyone had today.
  20. I already changed my mind to Eric without you starting your case. :P
  21. Another heads up to everyone, the game starts at 6:35 pm CDT. The starting pitcher for West Tenn will be RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu (9-8, 3.24 ERA). You can listen live on the Internet here.
  22. Why would they? Van Buren had an AWFUL spring and has terrible mechanics. Also didn't he pitch in the neterlands last year? Gotta be tired. He pitched in Lansing/West Tenn/Iowa last year and had a great season, and followed it up with a great season in Iowa this year. No Netherlands for him. An awful spring shouldn't be that big a deterrent. His terrible mechanics haven't hindered him from having two great seasons.
  23. Probable Pitching Matchups: Iowa: RHP Sergio Mitre (4-5, 4.84 ERA) @ RHP Kip Bouknight (2-0, 2.57 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu (9-8, 3.24 ERA) Daytona: RHP Juan Mateo (9-5, 3.42 ERA) Peoria: RHP Grant Johnson (3-6, 3.41 ERA) vs. RHP Josh Rainwater (2-6, 4.26 ERA) Boise: RHP Mitch Atkins (2-6, 5.68 ERA) Mesa: RHP Jose Pina (3-4, 4.20 ERA)
