  1. I'd do it, but Bowden wouldn't suggest it. We'd still need to improve the rest of our OF, though.
  2. Lambert's not a bad prospect. If I were SF or Philly, I'd want one of Reyes/Wainwright in return for Schmidt or Wagner, but I expect Jocketty would balk at that.
  3. The good ones can do it on accident. He can't do it if he tries. The point is he doesn't have the physical strenght or the discipline to hit a ball hard on the outside corner and drive it deep. I dont know how you can say he doesnt have the strength for it. He's the strongest guy on the team, upper body strength wise, he just doesnt have the swing or discipline to go the other way. I agree Corey's main problem is discipline---and I would add to that his bat speed needs to improve, or at least the length of his swing (it's just too long & loopy). But there's no way in hell Corey possesses more upper body strength than Derek Lee & ARam. Corey's a pretty strong kid for his size, but he's not in Lee or Ramirez's class strength-wise. I read an article last season that said that Corey has the highest bench press of any Cub. He's ridiculously strong. This isnt even the point however, people dont hit a lot of homeruns because of their strong upper body. Corey benches 350, per Vin Scully.
  4. So what does booing your own player accomplish? And why is it that Corey gets booed but a player who has been just as bad, Neifi, avoids it?
  5. I don't expect either to play in any Mesa games before going to Iowa. They're in Mesa for instruction and BP. Ok, that makes sense.
  6. That's not necessarily true. Corey didn't concentrate exclusively on baseball until his senior year in HS (he was a highly thought of football player too). You can't know that Corey knew more nuances at age 20 than Corey, especially given that Felix at age 20 has made full-season stops at Mesa, Lansing and Daytona and a half season at West Tenn, while Corey got a year at Lansing and 2/3 of a year at West Tenn. And Corey sure changed his swing this offseason (which has resulted in some of his added problems this season) - I really don't know why you say he's an old dog who can't learn new tricks.
  7. Hooray for Corey fans. :) Glad to see Corey say the right things (though I'm not shocked).
  8. Daytona: RHP Juan Mateo (6-3, 4.14 ERA) vs. RHP Steven White (0-0, 10.12 ERA) Peoria: RHP Sean Gallagher (8-3, 1.71 ERA) @ LHP Danny Christensen (1-3, 3.71 ERA) Boise: RHP Matt Avery (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 IP) - 9th rounder Thanks to Serena and Jon for your help! Also, the SL AA and the AAA all-star games are tomorrow. The Iowa all stars are SS Ronny Cedeño (promoted) and RHRP Jermaine Van Buren. The West Tenn all stars are SS Buck Coats, 3B Casey McGehee, RHP Ricky Nolasco, RHRP Andy Shipman, CF Felix Pie (injured), RHRP Talley Haines (promoted) and LF Matt Murton (promoted). I *think* the AAA all star game is on ESPN 2 tomorrow evening.
  9. Welcome, Bo! It's great to have you here. :D I love your broadcasts!
  10. Daytona won 10-8, thanks to a 3-run 9th. Robinson Chirinos and Jake Fox homered.
  11. Sorry to snip just a part of your post. Felix's OBP is revolved around a high BA. He has a lesser understanding of the strike zone and pitch recognition than Corey did when he was rushed up from AA. Thus, I don't think his OBP is sustainable if he's promoted to the big leagues now (since his BA is likely to drop). Felix Pie is not ready. Sadly, I agree with you - the hype/chatter in regards to Felix makes it seem like he would have been called up if he hadn't hurt himself.
  12. Noooo! :( With Prior and Woody healthy, that 0.49 can be made up in half the season.
  13. I like to think I stay pretty up-to-date with our minor leaguers, and remember most names from the past....but Gissell, this one I am clueless. What is his background and the link to the Cubs? Looks like he has some respectable numbers there for Memphis (I like the ERA and 3/1 K/BB ratio) Chris was a Cubs 4th round pick out of HS in 1996 who was thought of pretty highly in the late '90s (he cracked #3 in BA's top 10 Cubs list in 1999 or 2000). I guess he's about 27 now.
  14. Daytona: LHP Yorkin Ferreras (0-2, 8.53 ERA) vs. RHP Brett Smith (4-4, 5.26 ERA).
  15. I don't think I would have a problem with that. Once the Jaxx season is over if they wanted to call him up to be a pinch runner and get the occasional spot start, it could be good for him. I really hope they let him finish his season at West Tenn. though. Agreed, I don't know if their season, plus playoffs, will be over before the end of the regular season though. It should be. I don't want to see Felix in the big leagues (I'm indifferent to Sept. call-ups) till midseason 2006.
  16. Neither of them have played yet, Mesa had the day off yesterday. I assume Corey and Jason will be in Mesa's lineup today.
  17. West Tenn: RHP Carlos Marmol (1-1, 6.08 ERA, 13.1 IP) @ LHP Nic Ungs (3-4, 3.92 ERA) - thanks Ron! Daytona: RHP Alfredo Polanco <--not sure due to all those rain outs Peoria: RHP Jesse Estrada (4-8, 5.13 ERA) vs Ivan Blanco (2-1, 4.03 ERA) - thanks Serena! Boise: LHP Darrin Downs (2-1, 2.45 ERA)
  18. Game over on a 1-2-3 DP. The World team wins, 4-0. Justin Huber was named the MVP.
  19. I've read that he'd prefer a Cubs hat if he makes the Hall. Is he still a Marlin FO employee? Yes, which was why I was surprised with the Cubs hat. I can see why Adam Loewen's had major control problems the past few seasons. Yeesh.
  20. Yup, looks like he just missed it. :(
  21. Walk-balk-walk and here comes Moore with a pitching change first. Loewen pitching to Moore. Takes ball 1 outside. Takes strike 1 outside corner. Takes ball 2 HIGH. Moore flies out to left-center (to Montanez), about 5 feet from the warning track. Man, Moore looks big, and his bat looks small.
  22. Scott Moore on deck!
  23. Montanez up with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Takes ball 1. Takes ball 2 outside. Flies out to CF. Luis goes 1 for 3, with a HBP and 2 Rs.
  24. I was disappointed to not see Carlos Quentin too.
  25. Don't let it happen again. :P
