Kind of would like to bring in a UDFA QB as an alternative to a PS QB to Bray, but don't see the use in Dalton at this point, unless you're trying to just dump Mitch. Dalton will get more than the Bears can offer anyway. I think Mitch is already done with this team, barring an injury or a complete meltdown worse than Trubisky's 2019. Sure, there's a competition going into camp. But it's a competition in the sense that Trubisky will need to beat out Foles to win the job. Maybe he does, but I doubt it. Motivation hasn't been Trubisky's problem. Inability to read defenses, be in tune with his receivers, make accurate throws and not panic under pressure, among other things. Yea I'm counting on Foles to win the starting job, but then Mitch is the backup, which is a role his skill level is actually fine for, but theres no use then wasting additional cap on Dalton as well, unless you could Unload Mitch for like a conditional 5th rounder or something. They'll keep 2 QBs active with Bray on the PS.

I'd prefer Dalton and Foles competing in training camp over Trubisky, but I doubt that happens. I am interested in Kenny Stills for that burner WR. You're not totally wrong. Obviously the skills at S gave greatly shifted already with offenses. You're still looking at differences in how the position is played, that you aren't gonna literally just drop in a CB without prior development at S (and this year will likely suck to try and do a crash course since team activities will be restricted). You still want a good run support player who can also cover a bigger receiver in 12 personnel, probably at least 50% of the time. And most importantly make sure Jackson is that single high role again unlike with Clinton-Dix, where he was forced into that box S position a lot instead. the shear number of CB's on this roster should facilitate one taking on the S position, quantity is a quality. But I get what you are saying about forcing Jackson to play up as opposed to the single high pos he excels at. I'm just not convinced a traditional SS is the answer Clowney: the news out here is saying that the Seahawks are aggressively trying to sign him, hence the Fluker and Britt cuts Certainly not a traditional 1990s SS, but theres enough intriguing S out there that I'd rather try to get one of them for the vet min that to go to Kevin Tolliver or someone and saying, "how do you feel about S"? Denmark is the one guy who I'm guessing they may move over, but I bet he's another year on the PS and not a starter for 2020.

Why is Clowney still available? Are you under the impression that anyone that isn't currently signed is no good? I wouldn't take that stance. Sometimes a player is not as good as he thinks he is for the money he is asking for. There are plenty of reasons someone might not be signed right now. Clowney is still available? Damn, what's he asking for to still be unsigned?

I think you could probably get at least bring in better competition for Bush. There's a couple still sitting out there with starting experience. Minimum salary + small signing bonus. Everyone behind Bush is basically pure special teamers and a guy who spent 2019 out of the NFL and apparently was cut by the Seattle Dragons of the XFL in mini camp?! Well, I guess that's a little bit what I don't get. Unless hockey is just unique from other sports, it's not like it's odd to have a "non-sport" person in that CEO/President role. Was McDonough too powerful that they couldn't just "Cane Kenney" him? He had his chance to hire out a hockey head with Bowman and they don't want to let him again? Under different circumstances they would have let him hire a new head of hockey ops, but there was a conflict in that vision (i.e. One side wanted to move on from Bowman and the other side didn't?) Or they just didn't think he was the right person to lead the business side for some reason, so the hockey stuff was irrelevant?

The RB from Oregon State and maybe the OL from Yale sound the most interesting to me. Just based on depth I'd think the RB could make the roster. The OL would be pure PS fodder though.

I agree, but only in terms of timing. McDonough isn't a hockey guy. He basically convinced the owner to bring the team into the 21st century and helped solidify the business and marketing side. But they need an influx of hockey expertise at the upper levels. It's a perfectly logical move if the goal is to overhaul hockey ops. McDonough wasn't the guy to decide who to bring in. I've admittedly been fairly checked out on the Hawks. Has this been an idea talked about/expected by fans? I would have thought they'd just replace Bowman.

The Chicago Sea-Bears. The Chicago Bear-Hawks. They have room if they want though most guys at this stage in FA really should just take a sliver, like vet minimum contracts. I'd be on the lookout for another RB and perhaps a S. NT is also only one deep, but that is a spot they could conceivably just carry one on the active roster, and then maybe a PS player. The RB they signed in UDFA actually sounds kind of interesting, but still very underwhelmed with the depth of that group.

A bad pick and a F pick is not the same thing. This. Jersey is saying that Floyd basically gets the same grade as Kevin White which is just bat [expletive] insane. I guess it just is based on your scale. But by most analysis if you "hit" on half your picks you're considered doing a good or adequate job, most picks will end up with an F grade I guess. Curve the scale a little more harshly for higher picks and even a decent player is a failure in the top 10.

Agreed. Floyd himself may be a B- player, but the pick success was a failure.

I agree if the Bears drafted Maholmes instead of Trubisky and he developed to be as good he’d have nearly infinite job security but he didn’t. And he missed on White (yes I know injuries were a big reason but he was also someone who many said needed development), he missed on Floyd too. Smith has been a solid pick so 1 out of 4 in the first round. Second round we have James Daniels, Anthony Miller, Adam Shaheen, Cody Whitehair and Eddie Goldman. Is that 2/5 or 3/5? So 3 or 4 out of his 9 picks in the first 2 rounds? Even with solid drafting later on it’s hard to be good when you hit on ~40% of your top 2 round picks. I wouldn't call Floyd a miss. Granted, I know he was a top 10 pick, but he's a solid NFL player. He does everything well accept his primary job, rush the passer. But he got cut and is going to make 10Mil this season. That's not a paycheck for a player I'd call a miss. Probably a C to C- type pick, which is not ideal, but it happens. Those 2nd rounders are mostly hits. Anthony Miller is really good. He's had shoulder issues, but his biggest issue has been the QB. When Mitch was good last year (for 4-5 weeks late in the year), he was playing at a 100/1100 pace season. Good QB play and he's an 80 catch, 1000 yard guy in 2020. Daniels is decent too. This is probably a big year for him if he's a hit or miss, but he's shown enough to warrant a starting job this coming season. Can't discount his mid round work either. Jackson (all pro), Amos (who's loss became Foles), Howard, Nichols, were all great picks. Re: Floyd I think LA overpaid a bit (at least on a AAV basis). Not sure that should count as a plus in regards to grading the pick. Yes, he's an NFL capable player, even a starter (though not a Number 1 OLB), but at that pick, that's a D at best. He could even turn it up and maybe have a nice long career, but since his Bears career is in the books, we can call it a near failure at best.

What's the details on this trade? Both 6ths and the later 7th for the 5th and a slightly higher 7th. Got 173, 227 Traded 196, 200, 233 Damn near equal based on the "traditional" chart. About negative 1.

Help me out on that one. What’s the likelihood of finding plenty of help this far in? I’m trying to see it with Pace. I really am. But his picks consistently leave me befuddled. His picks in a general sense have been fine. He's drafted better than average overall. The issue is and has always been he missed the QB pick. Nothing else really matters. Seattle blows the draft every year by picking 3rd rounder in the 1st and still win 10+ because they hit on the QB. Well his 1st rounds in general have been. Floyd and Mitch at least he did swing for good positional value. White was a dumb pick always. Roquan is basically his only good 1st round pick and it's an arguably low value position for how high he was selected.
