  1. There's Deutsche Bank loans for that.
  2. They got one last use out of that letterhead though.
  3. Biggest thing I remember from that season was rushing home from work and watching Javy's debut in a season where I watched almost no games. A Chicago treasure form day 1.
  4. I wasn't aware of the ability to lock in a specific % of the cap. If that exists, that obviously helps with any downside. Per a few posts after this, guarantees matter a ton as well. If not a lot is guaranteed, he's potentially in a position where they just have endless team options (in effect). Been pretty busy the past few days, but I'll be interested to dig into details. Still, long term contracts are bad if not accompanied with significant guarantees. Eh, for an NFL QB of his level/age/accomplishment he’s going to have to suffer some significant injury or career altering incident for them to ever cut him. Other NFL positions, sure, but as long as he’s a top 12 or so QB under the deal he isn’t getting cut. If he's not cut one of those scenarios is where he is criminally underpaid. Or he becomes too expensive and is cut because the cap flattens and he never sees huge portions of the unguaranteed money. The structure and total guarantees matter A LOT.
  5. That seems likely dumb on his part, but we'll see. The rumors are it’s going to approach $500 mil and they’ll tie it to him getting a % of the cap (I’ve seen 16-18%) so he gets the team/league revenue benefit, why is it dumb to not lock that in? The downside is appreciably higher, imo, going short term and risking injury or whatever and costing yourself $100+ mil than it is to try and pick up a little more money every 3-4 years to maybe make a couple $10 mil more a year over 10 years. 7. Its a cool concept. I wonder if them keeping some of the imagery like that (like the feathers and the face paint by the eye) would not be enough to please those who want to see change. Many many years ago I saw a cool concept on sportslogos.net that was a Blackhawk helicopter concept. I imagine some sort of change womt be too far away for the Hawks. I know they used to have an established relationship with a local Native American advocacy group that kind of deflected some criticism, but sounds like that relationship was terminated and the current director has zero interest in establishing a relationship.
  8. Those were simpler times. Had to be more than a decade ago. Also re: that gif, best cold open ever. Just went and re-watched.
  9. One oft cited rumor I've heard was that Wade and Bosh were set on Chicago, but they pitched to Lebron about teaming up one last time. When he agreed, they went to Miami. This story contradicts that a bit. Chicago with any two of those guys I think ends up better than 2 for 4. Chicago with just Lebron might have as well (plus whatever other guy/guys they would have been able to pair with Lebron that offseason).
  10. My first thought is: Minch thinks he throws harder than Marquez? Lefty reliever vs starter.
  11. Breaking news alert.
  12. Seems like all the talk of this draft is there isn't much drop off to the mid first (mainly cuz the top sucks). So maybe?
  13. He’s 100% going to kneel during the anthem this season. Let's pump the breaks there. Has he even managed to type the words Black Lives Matter yet?
  14. Well Trump went after him first right?
  15. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he gets that and it was a rhetorical question.
  16. The team who can still field a roster by week 10 wins the trophy
  17. I'll give the new Bulls regime the benefit of the doubt (and I like Karnisovas), so maybe moving up helps? Getting pick #7 again would indeed be ridiculous. I hate that the 6 teams outside of the top 16 that get to restart the season will be in the lottery with the 8 teams whose seasons ended in early March (and won't start again until December). I'm completely cool with the Bulls not coming back, I honestly had to desire to watch them again (not that I was watching before) but they get the shaft a bit with no revenue from local broadcasts, not to mention less development time for the players. Not a huge disadvantage but a slight one. I think they should make the lottery only for the 8 teams left out, and give every team 1/8 odds for each pick. The Bulls last 17 games were going to be pretty brutal and there was a good chance they would have dropped before the end of the year. I think they had 2 wins over +.500 teams all year and 11 of their last 17 were against over .500 teams including a west coast trip to play Houston, Denver, LAC, LAL and Utah. I honestly would have loved to see a losers bracket tourney to decide the picks.
  18. Thanks for the contribution. One thing you said has really stuck out to me in all this and it's how much harder it is to deal with ignorance over just plain hatred. Hatred is a easy deflection for people including the ignorant who can sit there secure that they're not the problem because "look at that racism, that's what's wrong with America smh". The ignorant can be just as hard to move and the condemnation against them too light to force movement. He's already taking a lot of blow back on his apology, so we'll see if it chips away anymore at his stance.
  19. So Brees comes under fire for his comments about kneeling and the flag yesterday. He issues an apology through Instagram. I don't know if it's the power of celebrity or just being in the position as a powerful white male, but these dudes can't ever seem to issue an apology without making a huge chunk of it about them (we see it frequently in the me too era). But this apology, complete with the cheesy ass photo comes off like he's more concerned about how his words were interpreted than he is concerned about black men being gunned down while jogging or choked to death by police. https://www.instagram.com/p/CBA1P3gHpT_/?igshid=1qpebi6fcx5yo I know Brees does a lot of direct action in the NOLA community, and I'm sure he has good intent, but damn dude, why is an unequivocal apology so hard for guys?
  20. Sign that man to a lifetime contract.
  21. RIP Jerry.
  22. Could have been worse, they didn't even go into "No Tippin Pippen"
  23. I thought they showed it really briefly but didn't really go into the specifics and actually talk about it. That's what I was thinking, I clearly remember them showing him doing something, an announcer saying something along the lines of "Dennis is going to be gone for a while." and then him walking off the court. It may have been something with a player though. What's kind of wild is that in my head I was thinking the ref headbutt in 96 was a bigger deal at the time, but he got 6 games for that verse 11 games for the camera man incident. In today's age, is a guy getting any less than 20-25 games for conduct like that?

  25. Yea that's one area where I'm not believing it just cuz Michael said so. I think most importantly Jackson was going to be done. But I also can't imagine guys like Kerr, Longley, etc not also wanting that payday, and definitely Pip would have wanted his pay day, so I don't think it'd have been everyone back on 1 year deals. Most those guys got 50% of their entire career earnings in those post 5 championship years. I think it would have been the Bulls maxing out their cap for 3-5 seasons or so on a primarily mid to late 30s roster. That said, thats with a frame of reference of Krause having already introduced so much friction between management and the players/coaches. If he's more low key to the few years leading up to it, maybe everyone is all on board after 98. And even if Jackson still is insistent on leaving because of his "7 year rule" maybe in that case MJ agrees to stay if it's someone favorable from the existing staff. Or if Jackson leaves, perhaps Michael follows suit, even if the rest of the core is there. Came across a good article that talked about what that cap hit would have actually been: https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/why-keeping-michael-jordans-bulls-together-for-run-at-seventh-title-would-have-been-a-very-costly-mistake/ Obviously 99-03 ended up being dog horsefeathers anyways, but under that scenario they'd have locked themselves into a painful slow decline those 5 years.
