  1. I'd say we weren't too short on chaos last year even without him. Eh. That was a slapfight. Farns layed that guy the hell out. Michael Barrett disagrees. http://llnw.image.cbslocal.com/320x240/images_sizedimage_154075912.jpg

  4. Why is it no big deal if people like Aramis take part in [expletive] fighting and Michael Vick is massacred for dog fighting? I realize the differences, the legal issue, the fact that Vick was the ringleader in his case, but to say 'who cares' to cockfighting ignores the issue of why these 'sports' are illegal in the US - they are inhumane. I realize your point, but come on man, we EAT chickens. We don't eat fried dog... I'd also place the mental capacity of pit bulls just a bit ahead of a chicken... Yup. I mean, where do we draw the line? Stomping on ants (or frying em for fun with a magnifying glass) is inhumane, too.
  5. I'm not so sure he's been saved from that. From what I can tell, he's been pretty steadfast in not giving up more than he thinks it's worth to get Roberts, despite his obvious strong desire to acquire him. There's a reason there hasn't been a deal made yet. Now, whether he ultimately caves in or not, that'd be a different story.
  6. I'm in.

  8. Great. Another talking point for the idiots. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/794462,ramirez021408.article Who cares? ibcockjokes
  9. I disagree. Just because it might prove to be the longest thread ever (and for whatever reason, posters are trying to do that), does not necessarily translate this thread into being "the best ever". If you ask me, there's too much fluff in this thread for it to be considered to be one of the best. It's the "fluff" and not the actual on-topic discussion that makes this one of the best.
  10. 1. Alex Rodriguez 2. Albert Pujols 3. Hanley Ramirez 4. Jose Reyes 5. Ryan Braun 6. David Wright 7. Chase Utley 8. Jimmy Rollins 9. Miguel Cabrera
  11. Awesome. Thanks! Another vid I need to see is Cabrera hitting the intentional walk pitch a couple years ago.
  12. It's gotta be the shoes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNGehRbnPEo&feature=related
  13. Oh, wow. Yea. That was awesome.
  14. You can't spell GRIT without Ryan Theriot. The irony. Wasn't the story that players in the 30's and 40's pretty much avoided baseball and "training" over the off-seasons because they worked other jobs and such (or maybe some of the higher paid ones were just lazy)? I love how people's romanticized views of the past are usually totally inaccurate. BTW, not that that comment doesn't suck, but Barry Rozner is and always will be the most useless sportswriter in town. Oh, gee, another article about Greg Maddux today.
  15. yeah, I'll play... Play what? that one thing You lose
  16. :-s you heard him, now get lost! Ok.
  17. As much as I hate Mariotti referring to us as "Cubdom," I love this quote from his column today. Winter needs to end. NOW...
  18. Hah. I wonder if the "100% Roberts will be traded" report was a false leak to out him.
  19. In case you guys don't routinely visit the Tribune's sports site, I figured I'd pass these along... Cubs' return to playoffs under construction Warning, that one's Phil Rogers...Still, it's about baseball Piniella more familiar with Cubs roster in 2nd year Sizing up the Cubs' rotation Scott Eyre on his ADD Mariotti - Only Cubs can warm Chillcago Even though I think he sometimes writes decent pieces (like his Pro-Cuban stuff), I can't stand Mariotti's annoying puns. Wow. Spring reality check Wanted to toss in Bruce, too, but nothing from him today. At least, not yet.
  20. Look at Greene's splits away from PetCo park. A case can be made that, for a SS, he's actually quite a bit better than average to below average at the plate when he's not playing at the best pitchers park in baseball. He's a fly-ball hitter and that park just is not kind to his numbers. Or he was better on the road because he likes when people are yelling at him and hassling him. Or he doesnt feel pressure on the road like he does at home. No one knows. I agree that PetCo is a harder park to hit HR's in, but no one is for certain that he would put up his road numbers all the time if he was on the Cubs. Very nice. Using my own argument against me. haha.... But seriously, I think, while those others could also be possible explanations, given the fact that PetCo is clearly the equivalent of a Coors Field for pitching, and the fact that Greene is such an extreme fly-ball hitter, as well as the stats that support the possibility (which, as you said, might be explained by something else), that there's a good possibility that you could find a diamond in the rough with Greene and that there's a good chance that his numbers would improve significantly if he got out of there. Wow, that's probably the longest sentence I've ever written. I'm not sure that it's a run-on, though.

  22. And Greene's power and top shelf defense wouldn't make our team better? He would make us better, but I think Roberts would make us even more better. I dont think we need a low average, low OBP, low in the batting order HR guy on this team. I think we need a High average, high obp, lots of speed top of the order guy. And this is where the problem with fixating on lineup positioning lies. This is the point everyone is trying to make. You don't take Roberts & Theriot over DeRosa & Greene because Roberts & Theriot fits more nicely in some pre-conceived ideas about lineup roles.
