    By the way, the Cubs drew over 3 million fans in 2005 and 2006. If you want to argue that that's because people had high expectations based on 03-04, that's fine. But the Cubs haven't drawn less than 2 million since the strike shortened season of 1995. There have been plenty of horrible, horrible teams since then that have still filled up the park.

    Regardless of if they run the Cubs for profit (which I think any owner will do) they also need to field a winner if they want people to come to the ballpark. The Tribune Company has been very fortunate that the Cubs have had "good" teams, at least on paper. My dad told me that when he use to go to games in the 1960s the upper decks use to be closed. If the new owners are perceived as only out to make a profit and not put out a good product people will stop going to the games and profit will suffer. That neighborhood is totally different these days than it was in the 60s (or even the 80s). People will still fill the park to see a loser because it's a great way to spend a day. They just won't be paying 3-5x face value to a scalper/broker. Contrary to popular opinion, people do not go to Wrigley Field, they go to see the Cubs. I don't know anyone who goes to Cubs games and gives two craps about Wrigleyville. If the new owners are perceived as not really caring about the product people will stop coming to see the Cubs. That means they will stop going to Wrigley. I live in the area (yea, I should probably update my location). Going to the games is a way of socializing and hanging out (and an excuse to drink) for a LOT of people.

    All the babies are cute... when aren't babies cute (luckily I never have to deal with the gross crap since all the ones I've dealt with are nieces/nephews), though? Sulley's daughter looks like a miniature person (which I guess is what she is, but babies usually look like cute aliens)...

    The Marlins were the wildcard. The Cubs won the NL Central in 03. The Marlins had the better record, but the Cubs still had home field. Which is what I said... lol

    Looks like the Cubs/Z are on the cover of TSN. Better than SI, at least, although SI has already jinxed us this year.

    I think what you're thinking of is the home field rules for wild cards. I could be wrong, but I think a wild card team can get HFA in a given series now if they have the better record of the two teams. Before, a wild card would never have home field (which is why the 2003 Cubs had HFA over the Marlins).

    FA. San Fran gave him some obscene contract thinking that he was going to be the answer to their awful team. And they gave up Thome for Rowand and a couple of minor leaguers (one of them was Gio Gonzalez, IIRC).

    I'm assuming he was referring to that part, where it says nothing about it being to replace Cedeno.

    I like how you threw that in yourself. It's really not most obviously, since there's not another player on this roster that can back up SS. and who exactly do you think would be replaced? Fontenot? He's actually contributed to this team this year. I guess the other obvious option is to use that roster spot by sending down a pitcher and going to a 12 man pitching staff. As long as they add a RH bat to push Cedeno down on the totem poll, is fine with me. Wait, what? Cedeno hasn't contributed to this team this year? Nice job answering your own question, though. It was only a matter of time before you realized we're carrying 13 pitchers.
