    Yea, but if Cuban is willing to go nuts, I'd rather it be for CC, assuming Yost doesn't pitch his arm off. Sheets would be a decent consolation prize, but his injuries are the obvious concern.

    It'll take a lot of luck to sweep the Mets with all our starters resting up for the NLDS.

    The Cardinals are 10 games behind us in the loss column. We can finish a game below 500 the rest of the way(18-19) and the Cards need to go 25-10 just to tie us. If we close at our current pace(we'll round down and say 22-15) the Cardinals need to go 29-6 just to tie. The Cardinals have as much chance at catching us as the Astros do. Umm, I was talking Wild Card. I KNOW that St Louis has very little chance - if any - of catching us [unless we inexplicably choke even harder than the 2007 Mets], but between MIL/StL/PHI/FLA (& AZ if LAD wins West), I'd rather see StL come out of that pack as the 4th playoff team. And even so, if its during the last series vs them (9/19-21 @ Wrigley) and it means the Cards winning the WC spot or us clinching the division & HFA sooner, I'll root for the Cubs first hands down. You did say that you didn't want to root for the Cardinals "at the expense of the Cubs' own division & HFA clinching aspirations." And then pointed out that we have 6 games left with them. That would seem to imply to the reader that you think the Cards do have a chance of catching us for the division. That's what SSR was replying to...

    Came across these on another forum, but not sure who to give credit to for making them... I've always wanted the Cubs to switch to an all-white home jersey... I actually thought these looked pretty nice. I'd rather have the regular Cubs logo on the alts though.     fixed also look at Grossman's numbers when he came back after the ridiculous benching. and a large reason for the team's regression was Grossman suckage. Grossman had a great 8 games in 2006 and a very bad 8 games in 2006. Starting with the 6th game of the year in 2006 and through the last 11 games Grossman had 13 td's to 17 int's. And it got worse towards the end of the season (5-9 ratio in last 6 games including the awesome 2 for 12, 3 int game 0.0 rating game to end the season). Grossman had a good start to the '06 season and has sucked ever since. False, unless your definition of very bad is different than mine. He had 8 great games, 5 terrible ones, and 3 ranging from mediocre-bad to pretty good. I tend to think the offensive line being terrible and the many defensive injuries had more to do with the plight of last year's team than anything Grossman did in the first 3 games. EDIT - Sorry, I "misremembered" (although one of the terrible ones I forgot was half of a 100% meaningless game)

    one might argue that without Sabathia, the Brewers would be 3rd place (or worse) right now. What pitcher did they have who was going to go 8-0 (while pretty consistently keep opposing teams from getting to whack around that bullpen) over this span? what if the replacement pitcher went 4-2 and the bullpen won the other two... they wouldn't be that much worse off... anyway, i'm just saying that it's not like he's worth 8 wins because he's 8-0 (not saying you're saying that, but the way you presented the point is sort of misleading)....

    Fixed. Thanks for the post but it really doesn't matter. The fact they fail to see anything with regards to Sori and what his value is speaks to how clueless they really are. I gave them the team record and personal stats and it still doesn't register with them. No worries. Nobody is saying Soriano isn't a very valuable member of this team. That doesn't change the fact that he's not even in the top 5 candidates for the league most valuable player award. I don't know why I'm bothering making a real response.

    First of all, I'm not surprised that you are siding with the person who now holds the title for NSBB's dumbest argument. Secondly, any merit to the base argument for Soriano as MVP was completely destroyed by the OP's pigheadedness and his insistence on following W/L stats without Soriano exclusively, while ignoring rational discussion using real stats that ACTUALLY determine MVP candidacy. Eh, that was sort of unnecessary.
