    Ignorant was a poor choice of wording, as it was meant to criticize the opinion, not the person, so I apologize for that if you took that against you personally. However, this game individually doesn't matter...any more than any other game. And if we miss the playoffs, that's still true. At the end of the season, I promise you, we'll barely remember this game if we lose the division. There will be so much more heartbreak between now and then you'll look back on 2003 fondly. You didn't say "this game doesn't matter more than others". You said it doesn't matter. Pretty big difference. And I'm not talking about how we'll feel about this loss if we blow it. I'm just saying it will have mattered. It matters in your scenario that has about a 1% chance of happening. Literally.

    To put it another way, I'm not going to spend any more time worrying about the Cubs missing the playoffs than I will hoping they come back to win this game.

    That won't be happening. I would kill to be able to bet my life savings and all debt I could possibly take on on a 98% shot (without getting horrendous odds, obviously).

    And this thread is annoying even with that ratio. God could you imagine what it would be if the ratio was reversed? There might be a suicide pact or something. that'd certainly improve the quality of future game threads to have the only two non-crazies dead and a game thread full of unbridled insanity?

    Seriously, some people have a terrible idea of how to handle rooting for a winning team. Weren't any of you guys Bulls fans in the 90s? Jeez.

    Looks like Accuscore had it as a 30% chance of Nationals victory. Much better odds than 0.8% chance of not making the playoffs. It was like 80% when we had the 4-0 lead. FWIW... 20% is still a crapload bigger than .8%

    At the end of the year, are you gonna care? If it costs us the division I will If we lose the division, it's not going to be this game that's the cause. It's gonna be the 18 more that we lose down the stretch. If we lose the division by 1 game, splitting the season series vs the worst team in baseball will have had nothig to do with it? Interesting logic. Seriously? How about the epic collapse it would take to actually blow a playoff spot.... And, honestly, we've won 3 or 4 games this year that we had no business winning. Accept the damn losses and be done with it. It's 162 games and it's baseball for eff's sake.

    and i never undersand how grown (?) men (?) literally act like five year olds denied a lollipop when their first place, slam dunk to make the playoffs baseball team gets behind 6-4 in the sixth inning of a virtually meaningless baseball game. yet it happens. We're not a slam dunk to make the playoffs, but okay. looooooool It's highly likely, but nothing is a slam dunk. I'm not even sure slam dunks go in 98% of the time...

    I think the idea is given a decent lead, pitchers should just throw strikes and pitch to contact... but I'm not really sure that Marquis can throw strikes consistently even if he wants to.

Ridiculous. feel free to fly off the handle whenever you want. don't be surprised when people say you're being irrational or crazy, though. So you think it's irrational to be upset about blowing a 4-0 against a terrible hitting team by issuing multiple walks? Nope. But I think people can be upset without being irrational. So how was I being irrational? Wow, Derrek Lee just missed 2 straight meatballs right down the middle. Who said you were?
