  1. the nagy stuff seems like standard vote of confidence (not the type right before a firing) to a coach who is absolutely not going to be fired but is coming off a disappointing year after a really good one.
  2. graded him at 69.8, but what is average, good, great on their scale? i think it's basically "not bad" bordering on "pretty good"
  3. Eh, it's been boilerplate press conference nonsense. People calling it awful are probably the ones who burn jerseys and post it to social media. Yup. Not really understanding why people are expecting Pace to start dragging players he's asked about. There's nothing the Bears would gain from that. You want to know how they feel about Adam Shaheen? Consider the fact that, while healthy, he couldn't find his way on the field despite our dumpster fire of a TE situation in an offense that uses the position heavily. And, FWIW, PFF liked Floyd's 2019, despite the lack of sacks. I don't think talking up his positives (he's far from a terrible player, first round status aside) is some crazy offense.
  4. why the hell is someone who posts like 10 times a year randomly locking up threads anyway
  5. Ooooh, as opposed to all the non-speculative Bryant rumors - got it speculation and sourced rumors are two different things
  6. not gonna lie, i feel kinda relieved that whatever weird ass thing you wanted to post in reply to that is a broken link.
  7. What actually is his health status now? I know he felt bad about how things went and wanted to make it up to the Cubs. Is he expected to actually be ready for ST?
  8. what happens when they don't know what pitch is coming
  9. idk...the heyman tweet makes it seem like the door might at least be somewhat open (he mentioned him for a reason) if the nationals don't get donaldson. it also is almost literally saying nothing, like most of his tweets, so whatever. i wouldn't call it a giant hole, tho. bryant makes them better the next two years.
  10. Yeah, of things we've heard, a package around Robles is basically the only way I could come away from this whole thing not completely disgusted. That doesn't mean I want it to happen or would be excited about it, though.
  11. i definitely have been... circa 2010-11 or so. i don't think i can say i've been more pissed off at them than i am now, though.
  12. Then stop referencing it. He's underpaid. He's underpaid... by design. He signed a deal hoping that he'd become good enough to be underpaid in 2020. He preferred to take guaranteed money up front vs. taking a risk of waiting it out. It's not some wrong that has to be righted by overpaying him for his age-32 season and beyond. nobody is saying that. some people, myself included, are saying that given what he has meant to the organization and fan base both on and off field, they wouldn't be terribly mad if the cubs kept him around at a somewhat inefficient salary past the next two years. that doesn't mean that's what I (or whoever else) want to happen. but considering they are pretending to be poor, there's lots of places i'd want that money spent first barring things changing drastically over the next two years.
  13. yeah...all i noted was that his performance was worth what it was worth based on the math. and that includes him being dinged for his position (which he plays really damn well, FWIW). never said he'd actually get that on the open market. entirely different story.
  14. Maddux was coming off 3 seasons of 5.1, 5.8, and 7 fWAR when he hit free agency at age 26. And, since he wasn't a high strikeout guy, I'll throw in that his bWAR in 92 was a Trout-ian 9.1. What really made letting him walk after 92 extra egregious, though, was the fact that he came back to the Cubs at the end, telling them he wanted to stay if they'd match his offer, and Himes was like, "Nah, we're good with Dan Plesac and Jose Guzman." Oh I agree it was insane what Himes did and should've kept Maddux. I know how good he really was with the advanced metrics as a Cubs, but those stats weren't available or didn't exist back then like they are now so you can really compare or evaluate players these days. I was more curious on how he viewed in those days since all you went by were the numbers/stats which doesn't tell the whole story as we all know. If people (scouts/reporters/players/etc) were saying like what jersey said, then yeah it looked as bad as it did. I was just curious if anybody threw out the whole "contract year", "he wasn't as good as what '92 suggested", etc like I was saying at the end of my post. Fair enough. He was coming off 18, 19, 15, 15, and 20 win seasons on mostly terrible teams... So I'm pretty sure he was viewed quite favorably.

  16. he's still probably significantly underpaid at 16.5 for the next two years. he was worth almost double that 2 of the last 3 years.
  17. any move to keep him around past his current contract is obv more emotionally driven than anything and i'm still kinda ok with that, especially given how much surplus value he has given them and how much he has meant to the organization all that said, it's not really worth talking about right now, especially given everything else going on and ownership pretending times are tough.
  18. He’s at $16.5 on the option years, is that really “grossly underpaid” from an AAV perspective for a 1B on the other side of 30? He more recently has a season at sub 3 WAR than he does a season at 5+. I think that $16.5 range for AAV on an extension+guaranteeing option year is pretty fair/realistic. yeah i'd say he's been pretty damn grossly underpaid (as much as you can say that given the fact that it's already generational wealth and blah blah)
  19. i will take this opportunity to post this
  20. We've been saying that for 3 years. 92 wins (NLCS), 95 wins (most in NL in regular season) and last years horsefeathers show the last 3 years. If you think the true talent is closer to 2017 and 18 (I do) than 2019, Pythag agreed, then yeah we don’t need major changes to win. Small tweaks to optimize things are going to put them in a plenty good spot to win 90+ and what more can you really ask for? yep. find some guys who throw hard to see what sticks in the bullpen, get a serviceable starter, and replace trash like almora and descalso with competence (both by playing time allocation and actual personnel moves).
