    I haven't been watching very closely, but he has 5 K's in 4.2 IP? And the Giants are a high contact team. Even without that being the case, this dude just said this Arrieta is mediocre at best? You were very easy on him.

    i mean, did you read my posts? i wondered if we'd eventually be looking at somebody, because we're going to be in the playoffs, and it would make sense to load up as much as possible. of course we don't need anybody, and staying in house is the most reasonable option. but if they can find a nice corner outfielder for a decent price, then why not? but yeah, all i did was wonder if they'd be looking at a safer bet for an everyday player, since i already thought they might be looking at an upgrade for left field around the deadline. this is a conversation with the playoffs in mind when we want to roll out the most stacked lineup possible. Making moves for the playoffs is kind of a fool's errand

    Soler frankly can't really suck any worse than he has, and Javy doesn't need to be good at the plate because he's amazing on defense. so if soler ends up sucking like he does now, why wouldn't you see a point in trading for an outfielder? because we don't really need to spend assets acquiring a replacement for a guy who was playing pretty badly just because he's out for a month i could see your point if he were out for the season or something

    that includes his contribution on defense. and on the bases. Be patient with me as I learn. So his fielding/baserunning is in the plus but his offense has been so bad that it still adds to a negative, or his defense/baserunning is also negative? his overall contribution has been 0.4 wins so far. that's a pace of under 2 wins (which would be a below average regular). that includes what he has contributed on defense, offense, and on the bases in the form of runs. he has been worth negative runs on offense. his defense, while very good, isn't enough to make him an above average player this year when he has been a .281 wOBA hitter (or 71 wRC+...100 is average). in fact, it's very impressive that he manages to even sniff "average regular" status with how putrid he has been offensively.

    sprained ankles do exactly that (this obviously isn't a sprained ankle...but you see injuries that aren't that serious cause immediate severe pain that then dissipates all the time)
